Look set to earn £4mil in sell on fees when Scott Hogan moves to West Ham.

Looks like the 3 horse race might become a 4 horse race yet again if it all gets reinvested...

Keith Hill might just get them in the mix. Doesn't really matter though since we're gonna win the league anyway :)

thought they were already in the mix
already stated see them being more of a threat than bradford , and possibly scunthorpe now

Not sure it'll make too much difference, they'll invest it in surviving rather than a jan raid

They are in the mix, and Keith Hill is doing a fantastic job on limited resources. Given those resources, how much of that £4m would Hill get for team building, and how much would the board keep for running the club?

These small clubs never seem to invest such windfalls significantly.

Hogan's done incredibly well. He had a serious knee injury yet still returned and stepped up to the Championship with ease when he'd never played there before.

Its ridiculous how much money clubs can make from sell on clauses nowadays with transfer fee inflation. It's going to be common for the buying clubs not to offer more than a 5% sell on clause in the future.

They're fifth so I don't really class them as being in the mix, a game in hand which if they win gets them to 48 points which is 8 points off us.
A good run though and they could be a real threat, their home form in particular is scorching.

I certainly hope we've got a 30% sell on clause for Kyle Walker...

There's one that springs to mind: when Les Ferdinand signed for Newcastle, Hayes, who sold him to QPR, got 600 grand in sell on fees, which they used to bankroll promotion from the Southern League to the Conference.

Whether Barnsley used the John Stones money wisely I have no idea, but they got promoted after they received it.

They are a threat I think. Game in hand and 7 points off second. Their home form is incredible.
I suppose when you look at it like that you're right. When we're considering Bradford as an outside threat still Rochdale are looking much better than them.
Maybe it's not just going to be Bolton and Scunny's results we'll be looking out for in a couple of weeks time if they keep going like they are.

They'll be back in for Matty D then ;)

As others have said, it won't be re-investment for them more money in the bank and not having to sell their better players to survive. Hard to imagine that this is the highest level they've played at, and they only achieved promotion to League 1 a couple of years ago.

The money Barnsley got for John Stones, it'll be ridiculous if they let Winnall or Hourihane go this month on the cheap. They can afford to let them leave for nowt in the summer.

Keith Hill said "I'd have him back tomorrow" previously. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they came in for him. He also linked up reasonably well with Steven Davies here so that could tempt them further.

I like Rochdale, great fans and great line in matchday music.

Have to admire how they've punched above their weight too.

Trouble is when you've achieved so much on a shoestring, it's easy to upset the apple cart if you start getting giddy with a bit of cash.

Think Hill is too canny for that though.

Look at it another way.

Players at the moment on average £600- £800 max.

Bring in a couple of billy bollocks for 500.000 on £10k a week with 100k cars parked up in the training ground car park.

Disaster strike's.

I'm sure they are.
Walking through the Bury car park last week a young bloke (well young to me!) rolls up to the steward in a Range Rover Evoke and the steward asked him if he as playing to which the reply was no, on the bench.
I wondered at the time how much must Bury be paying if a sub can afford an Evoke.

Just going on a average 2nd division clubs attendance's and under 3500 is more than enough to cover it.

Average weekly pay is £748.

Didn't realise this thread was about money and a rival league one club, I assumed I was tuning in for the afternoon play.........

"Mr. Holmes", said Mrs. Hudson, peering around the door, "there is a gentleman downstairs to see you"

Holmes took the pipe from between his lips "I am expecting no one Mrs Hudson, please tell the gentleman that he must be mistaken"

"he says the matter is of great importance Mr. Holmes", said Mrs. Hudson

Dr. Watson looked up from his newspaper "if he has made the effort to come here Holmes, the least you can do is spare him five minutes of your time....."

"very well", snapped Holmes, "please show him up Mrs Hudson"

Moments later, Mrs Hudson appeared again at the door, "Mr Holmes, may I introduce your visitor, Mr Rochdale Windfall......"

That's an average though and includes kids who will be on a couple of hundred quid a week. Senior pros, even in L2, are on more than that.

Too right grapps, should we really be looking over our shoulder at Rochdale?

Or forward?

It might take a few years/seasons yet Bob, but I think Chris Wilder won't be happy until we are no longer fearful of Rochdale, Shrewsbury, Fleetwood, etc.

Says something about us aswell ..... Our home record is virtually identical to theirs :)

A lot still seem to be worried about what other teams do. Oh charlton this charlton that for example. Quite simply fuck them, if we look after our own shit we will be fine. Stop looking over your shoulder and look straight ahead.

The only good thing about other teams strengthening is that they will take points off each other. You can't buy team ethic and spirit and they haven't got wilder or 20k fans.

Rochdale's yearly turnover is £2mill.

With the FFP only 60% of this can be spent on wages.

30 players in the first team squad lets say then £1000 each not £800.

That's over £1.5 mill a year!!

That's not including the manager and everybody else at the club, just the first team squad.

They only have 1.2 million to spend on wages for EVERYBODY at the club.

Range rover or not.
