If RND has started to get back to his pre-injury levels then he'll be way ahead of Burrows and McCallum.
I think people forget how good he was under Heckingbottom.
I think people forget how good lots of things were under Heckingbottom. Not saying he should still be boss or that he was the Messiah or anything but he did an effing top job all thongs considered. And stayed humble with it.

At LCB

He's never looked great at LB/WB

It's just good that he appears to be at a level where keeping him another season is worthwhile, after being written off. Backup LB and potential starter at LCB. Could be worse

He was given that opportunity in west London and has grabbed it with both hands, leaving United fans jealously watching his consistent levels of performance whilst the Blades struggle in a relegation battle.

That's over egging it. I've not been feeling jealous and haven't thought of us struggling in a relegation battle
I rarely give him a second thought, when i do i have nightmares about his performances for us.

I'm really glad he's doing well for QPR and genuinely hope that they sign him permanently if he's doing well and fits in there. He certainly needs it

Definite recency bias here. I’m sure we all have nightmares about his most recent performances for us under Selles when he was coming back from around two years out. But a few seem to forget just what a good player he was before the first injury.

Those injuries mean he’ll probably never reach the high potential he previously had and, like many before him, he has clearly had to reinvent and adapt his playing style a bit. An intelligent player, which he is, is able to do that.

His performances at QPR leave no doubt that as a back up LB/LCB he would be more than good enough for us. But I suspect he will want more than that, and I don’t blame him.

I'll be honest, I never really got the hype with him, he always seemed to lack pace, especially on the turn. And I don't think the team missed him especially when he was out long term. When he played under Wilder in the cup the previous season and under Selles, he was a car crash for us, so I just felt enough was enough for us.

QPR are very much a midtable side, consistently average, so I get why he's done well for them. So if he has the opportunity to move there permanently, then it would be smart to take it.

For ourselves, i don't think we play in a way to accommodate him without losing our balance. He's never seemed to be as athletic as the likes of Burrows or McCallum to be a fullback or wing back and not reliable enough to play LCB

Spot on.

He obviously wasn't properly maich fit after all the injuries, and the charlatan did him no favours whatsoever, with no cover in front of him.

I'm pleased for him, hut wouldn't blame him at all, if he doesn't want to play for us again.

A better defender than either Burrows or McCallum and a more intelligent player than either. Certainly more athletic and used to be much quicker than Burrows, who really isn’t athletic, but not able to give as much going forward these days. Before the injuries he had a higher ceiling than either of them.

Thought PH was ok. Did a decent job of steadying things and he was savvy enough to realise in that promotion season that we had better players than the opposition in general and could allow our main actors to win us the games if we could keep it tight at the back. It worked and when we absolutely needed promotion for financial reaaons, he delivered.

But, imo he was tactically naive and did some strange things. He waa completely out of his depth in the PL even taking into consideration the poor hand he was dealt. Remember he opened it up to play a game of basketball v Newcastle at home when we werw already 3 down at HT. Result...lost 8 nil at home. Who actually does that unleas they are naive. Sit in, maybe conceded another, lose 4-0 but at least keep it respectable.

I think PNE is about his level. But i do wish him well though for his efforts with us. Just dont want him back in the future as our manager. Been there, got the t-shirt, weve all moved on in our lives.

Anyway, back to the subject matter of the thread. Maybe best all round if RND makes a success of things at QPR and makes it permanent in the summer. Good for all parties.

Burrows isn't athletic? Compared to RND at his peak. I'll politely disagree.

Its all relative, but with RND, just knock the ball past him, wait for the holding and draw the foul or just get away and either cross the ball or take a shot.

Genuinely not true – he played well plenty of times at LWB after Hecky came in. Was arguably MOTM in the away leg playoff semi-final at Forest that season. There’s a debate about whether he still has a role with us, but he certainly had good games for us pre-injury at LWB.

Whereas it’s much easier with Burrows. You don’t need to knock the ball past someone who isn’t where he should be.

I must have a different recollection then because I remember Rhys doing very well as LWB until he got injured against Coventry. He hasn’t been right in red and white since coming back but he’s never had a proper run at left back or left wing back. He was often asked to do a job as a centre back.

He was good at getting up and down and the only game I remember him struggling in was where he got in a tangle against Spence, but he was a great competitor that season and reliable.

He probably lacked some quality offensively and I think McCallum is slightly more naturally athletic but if someone offered big money for either McCallum or Burrows, considering we rotate them, I’d not be rushing to splash my limited reserves on a replacement if Rhys has had a good full season behind him.

It was shocking fans got on his back but he was put in an unenviable position of playing in an unusual role, back from injury, under a clueless manager.

Needs shipping out soon as we can - been here years never going to be anything we can’t replace

He was a left back who rarely scored or assisted even when in his best spell. You can’t afford that in modern football. I remember him having decent stamina and attitude though.
As a LCB he lacks pace, physicality, strength, height, positioning as basic attributes for the role.
It’s harsh as he has been around for a while but we should be desperate for QPR to take him.

I imagine he will also be desperate for QPR to take him. I would be if I was him.
