I'm guessing we saw him as a squad filler/occasional starter a la Osborn, and from what I've heard he wanted more money than that

If that's the case then fair enough, you would think that our plans for him and potential contract would have been discussed before the trial but there's too much unknown with board incompetence and agent/player fuckery to speculate

How did he do in training? How did he fit into the team dynamic? How does he fit the squad rebuild? Does he block the development of another player in that position? If Souza goes, do we have a "better" player earmarked for that position with the money we would get? Do we believe we could get a better player on loan to cover that position?

The answer to those questions are not fixed, they can change and we won't have known them without a trial. I'd imagine the most important one was "does he block the development of another player in that position?". Don't know about you but I like the look of Peck a lot more than I do Dozzell so it might be that he did well enough that we feel we have "signed" a player in that position.

Long story short - Why have a player on trial and not sign us? Because it's benefits us and helps us with building a squad. Why should we stop doing stuff that benefits us?
