Rivalries

I've always had Nottingham Forest in our "top 5" and would pick Forest over Rotherham and exclude Doncaster altogether, just because teams are close doesn't mean they're a rival (imo).

I'd go with; Pigs, Scum, Forest, Derby County & Barnsley. Arsenal have Stoke City, what's all that about...?

Mainly, but not entirely, Aaron Ramsey's right leg.

Club rivalries is very much down to interpretation and how the questionnaire was worded.
There’s obviously historical rivalries but younger fans may not know about or feel that rivalry.
Then there are fashion trends where a set of results, or a set of events temporarily grows that rivalry to something very strong.

Traditionally there’s no rivalry between the Sheffield clubs and Rotherham United (traditionally usually different divisions).
In the last few decades the SU- Rotherham rivalry is so non existent it’s untrue, we’re almost friends.
Where as Rotherham recently scored last minute winners down at Hillsboro twice, then their fans were giving it large down on Leppings Lane.
Always makes me smile that many Owls fans now have this strong dislike of Rotherham....I always joke that they have this intense rivalry going on.

The Man U- Leeds match is a strong traditional rivalry but they’ve rarely played each other in the last 20 years.
So you have a generation of Man U and Leeds fans who don’t have a dislike of each other, so that rivalry is fading.

On Saturday my grandson asked me who Leicester’s main rivals were.
I told him that they don’t have a proper rival/ local derby....their main rival is probably Forest but they only care about Derby.
They also try to have a rivalry with Villa and Birmingham but again both those clubs don’t care that much about Leicester.

I’ve also met Forest, Hull and Leeds fans and they’ve all said that they dislike (have more feeling about) playing United more than Wednesday,
In fact you find that not many fans of other clubs dislike Wednesday, think it’s because they go out of their way to be liked, it means a lot to them.

Surprised Norwich don’t have us down. They along with Ipswich have had a strange sort of dislike for us for years. Both of them refer to us as the Ipswich/Norwich of the North.

Thought about West Ham but I don’t really feel any sort of animosity to them any more. Might as well Everton for the bribery scandal and Tottenham for escaping a points deduction if we did.

For me rivals have to be local similar sized clubs who challenge for similar targets generally through the years, that’s why I don’t consider Barnsley and Rotherham as rivals.

Does any Blades fan consider Rotherham and Doncaster as rivals ................. really?
I'd go with
1. Pigs
2. Scum
3. Scabs
4. Dingles
5. Any other team that consider us rivals. Hull just for them being so pathetic, Mansfield the inbred part of Nott's ...... Nottingham's dingles. Any of Oldham or Bolton who for some obscure reason think they are our big rivals I suppose you could say the same about West Ham. The truth is I couldn't give a toss about any club coming in at #5

Leeds, pigs, Forest, West Ham more recently and after that I'm struggling a bit. Based on my history since 1970 maybe Hull or Burnley if I have to have a fifth choice.

I've always had it that Wednesday is the local rival, intense, brutal, but with everyone knowing deep down that we share a love of the city. Leeds is pure hate. Forest is pure hate but to a lesser degree. And every now and then we play one of Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, Bradford, or Chesterfield, and they like to pretend it's a derby game but they're basically irrelevant and I can't really tell them apart.

Edit: I'm amazed Hull have Grimsby and Scunthorpe before us. They're another one on the list of teams that make a huge deal about playing us and I don't know why.

Ha just noticed only 83% of Blades consider the pigs as first rivals while 85% of them consider us as first rivals.
They become more irrelevant by the day :D

There are teams I don't like but grown up having 1 rival and that's S6 mob, Weeds more hate than rivalry.

Whilst I’m not sure ‘rivals’ is the right term we had some big matches against Rotherham and Donny when I was young. Biggest crowds I’d seen at the time. The kop was packed tight, really tight.

I was surprised that Mansfield have the two Sheffield clubs, but neither of the Nottingham clubs nor Derby.

I think the big difference is I can go a long time without running into a Leeds fan but I'll meet a pig once a day. When derby games come along I can't escape the rivalry. There'll be talk in the build up and depending on the result there'll be people I'll dread running into. Can't say the same for Leeds even if I do despise them.

It's also why I can't understand seeing a team like Mansfield listing us as a rival. It's a bit like finding out that someone my sister used to work with doesn't like me. I'm sure they have their reasons but it's not really affecting either of our lives.

Wouldn't put Barnsley, Rotherham and Donny in there. I don't see them as rivals.

Wendy, Leeds, Forest, West Ham? Bolton recently, Walsall haha

Pigs, Leeds and Dingles OK but in reality we have always had a mutually respectful relationship with Rovrum on the whole, (all the Millers I know hate Wednesday far more than us) and as for Doncaster, apart from Geography I don't get why they are in there....especially above the likes of Florist??

A few have developed over recent seasons that I would put above Rotherham and Doncaster…………..West Ham, Norwich, Port Vale even Bolton & Coventry.

Makes you wonder if some of those so-called rivals votes are down the the fact that someone supporting some club, called them wanker on a Facebook football page and it hurt their feelings.

That's it pigs always in our faces or trying, I remember BD well I got home to ex wife and threw tree out in garden saying, Christmas is over. We went out to Spa club that night and it was just rubbed in our faces plenty of swearing off us though.

Can't stand those dingle scrubbers. Never had any ill will towards or from Rotherham and Doncaster and they generally seem to despise the Pigs. Some of the results are laughable though, Mansfield aren't and never have been even on our fucking radar.

Mansfield have always hated anything to do with Sheffield for as long as I can remember, don't know why. I remember in the 70's the united match was postponed so about a dozen of us went to watch Mansfield v Rotherham. No problem with the Rotherham fans but the Mansfield fans went nuts to get at us after the game. They forgot about the Rotherham lot and came down on us they chased us through shops then through fire exits and back alleys while we were lobbing dustbins at them to keep them off.
