Extremely sad news. I didn't know him personally, but he was an extremely recognisable character and had seen him all over the country - obviously a true blade through and through.

RIP Shred - top Blade

RIP shred, happy memories,
Thoughts with those closest to you, heaven will never quite be the same with you up there and for sure SUFC have lost a bloke who to a great extent epitomised what being a blade is all about!

RIP Shred - I went on one of his coaches to my first "real" away trip down to wolves many many years ago...

Was only speaking to him at Notts County last week. I said to him how well he was looking.

Old school Blades like him don't come along every day, in that respect we've lost one of a kind.

I suppose it's a small token of my respect for him that having read all Blades boards every day since the year dot, this is the first time I've ever contributed a post.

RIP Shred, try and pull some strings for The Blades up there.

Never knowingly met or spoke to him although I must have at some point over the years. As people have said, part of the Blades family, RIP.

RIP Mr Spencer - You will live long in the memory of those Blades who had the pleasure of travelling with you to many away games! Certain trips stick in my mind, the young lady who accompanied us to Blackburn when she thought the coach she got on was going to Hull Prison, 8.30am from Paternoster Row no matter where the game, and my all time favourite quote when stopping off for ale pre match - "No thieving, no fighting and no drunkenness....well no excessive drunkenness"

Top man, top Blade

That's a real shocker ,seen him loads of times this season ,he didn't seem ill or anything . He also watched a junior team out Worksop way ,dont know if he had a relative playing. Mr Sheffield United ,everyone knew Shred ,he is one who really should have a minutes applause at the next game.

I didn't know him personally but I think I saw him at just about every away game I've ever attended. The word "legend" is heavily overused but Shred really was a Blades Legend.

RIP.

Mr Sheffield United, RIP mate, spoke to you at length at Notts County, will miss you at away days, and U18 games. Will raise a glass for you my friend.

I would have thought more on the lines of a 5 minute applause or singing there's only one David Spencer non-stop for te 1st half.

One of the finest blades ever if not the finest and genuine nice bloke.

I think they'll need the City Hall fro his funeral.

RIP Nana Mouskouri

the great man should have ninety minutes applause ,encouraged so many young uns to become blades never charged a penny for the young uns on his coaches , some of the best days of my life have been on david spencers tours ,there should be a bronze of shread on the kop steps .

R.I.P shred . my dad used to tell me about him from being a very young age and what a big blade he was, and ever since my first away day i always looked out for him in the crowd, although i didnt know him personaly. hard to beleive i was at his last blades match on tuesday

How old was he?

I never met him but I think I know who he is. Has anybody got a photo?

Edit: Just seen the photo on Twitter. It is who I thought. :(

Blimey... don't know what to say.

Thoughts are with his family and friends. Hopefully in the days ahead, they can take comfort from how many peoples' lives he had an impact on.
