You do realise that Heinken is no longer the cold filtered piss it used to be?

My mind is (relatively) open if you want to fill me in on the details. However, I take no responsibilty if the RAPFA militants like Ollie pile in....

Going rate ?What boozers do you go to?Crown on London Road last night was £2.50 a pint and I understand Sheaf is selling ale at £1.70 a pint this season.

They are not served quickly and most of the staff behind the counter seem to be wondering aimlessly about.

Why should I wait the service is there and we like a half time bevvy ,each to his own, to be honest my argument is that at £3.30 a can it was a bloody rip off.

We are allegedly a football club not a catering firm
Yes and we are supposedly members of and benefactors of that club, not mug punters there to be taken to the cleaners

Oh and I repeat there will be no draught lager available only bottled Carling

No need to repeat it. My view is that given you are inside a football ground with no alternative £3.30 is OK for a pint of ale or a bottle of lager, as I said above. In my experience of supping in Sheffield these days that is only slightly more expensive than a pint in most pubs. Yes some have offers on and the Sheaf thing sounds incredible but if you're supping strong lager or a decent real ale I don't go anywhere where I get more than shrapnel out of £3. Does 30p really constitute a rip off when you clearly are pretty desperate for a pint (as I am at HT most games) and have nowhere else to go? The quality and service seemed pretty reasonable to me last season - I thought they had it sorted alot better on South Stand.

Exactly mic, as you've said yourself you don't get much change out of £3 if you're supping Strong lager or decent real ale.

The problem is, at bramall lane you're doing neither. You're supping piss weak lager and a pale facsimile of real ale at premium prices.

I keep repeating it I know, but selling a can that at most cost them a £1.00 for £3.20 is ripping off the fans.
Absolutely no other way to describe it and absolutely no justification for it .

I will be honest at first i thought it was a scam by the bar staff because I couldn't believe anyone actually associated with the club sat down an thought it was areasonable price

You may be surprised at how much it costs to buy in a can of beer, i would halve your figure.

Forget RAPFA, I can't believe someone is trying to tell you Heinken is anything other than fetid sewerwater. Mind you the name Higbury should tell you he will tolerate any ol piss and pay over the top for shite :).

Thing is though there is nothing stopping the club actually trying to do something decent - Brighton's new stadium (complete with naming rights) sells real ale and even has a plan to serve guest beers based on who the away team is. Gimmicky perhaps but might get more people to drink in the ground.

Brighton - It's the Real Deal for ale fans

That is the most innovative thing I've seen in football ground catering EVER and shows it can be done with some planning and forethought

Agree with you, a total disgrace but you also mentioned the set-up for the coming term and as a bitter drinker £3.30 for a pint of 'Stones' does not in any way make me feel I am being ripped off given I am usually desperate for a pint and have nowhere else to go and that I pay £2.80 - £3.10 in most places I sup for a pint. Obviously there is a difference in quality but not massive imo. The decision to not sell pints of lager seems very daft to me.

Going rate? Really? In the expensive bars in town maybe. In my local its £2.20 for a pint of Carling, £2 for a pint of Stones.

I did have the word relatively in my original post;)

But if you asked my to rank the mainstream premium (ie: 5%+) lagers generally available on draught in this country i would rank them thus.

Paulaner
Pilsner Urquell
Budvar
Staropramen
Heineken
Becks

There's a big drop in quality between the above and this lot...

Grolsch
Kronenberg
Stella

I've probably missed a couple of brands.

And yes, i do generally pay over the top for stuff, but that comes with living in London unfortunately. And for avoidance of doubt i'd prefer a glass of Pale rider, Harviestoun schiehallion, Caingorms Trade Winds, TT Landlord, Roosters Yankee, Marstons Old Empire, Fraoch, Red Cuillin, Duvel, Schneider Aventinus, La Trappe Tripel, Chimay Blue, Westmalle Tripel (Not too many of those though...;) and many more ales over any of the above.

I'm not a real ale fascist though so i doubt i'd be able to be a member of RAPFA any time soon.

I had a pint of 1872 porter last night at the coach and horses, that was £3.20. I didn't feel ripped off as it was an excellent pint. I wouldn't pay that for Stones at bdtbl though.

The average price of a very average beer in Vancouver is £5 so I feel no pity at all. It gets worse; the main drinks at the Canucks are £6 for a foamy 'pint' of Molson Canadian served in a plastic cup.

My local bar in Spain serves german premium lager Warsteiner ,extremely cold in pre frozen glasses , for 3 euros

Its rather nice, back there in August thank god, must dig out my speedos to frighten the local women

There is also no where near the ground to drink. You are a bit of a captive audience. Its a tidy new stadium the best ive seen yet of these new grounds. It would be interesting to see if the prices are reasonable and they could be on to a winner.
