Was charged £3.20 each for a can of Carling and a can of John Smiths last night with one of the bar staff admitting they had probably been bought at Tescos earlier that day,£6.40 for two cans I could have bought the whole 24 for that

Also informed that there will be no draught lager available this season only bottles @£3.30 but there will be draught Stones (or what passes for Stones these days)also @£3.30 a pint.

Was informed that these changes were as a result of input from four football forum representatives who meet regularly with the catering managers, WTF?I seem to remember most people wanted better service, reduced prices and greater choice, including perhaps a local beer, what we got? reduced choice, increased prices and some beer produced by the big breweries and masquarading as Stones. The improved service seems to still be work in progress if last night is anything to go on.

If this is the club listening then the people giving the message must be giving it wrong.

My prediction for first home game?minimum beer sales and possible fecking riots at the bars

I did say something to the effect of the club pretends to listen then does exactly what it wants in that very thread.

Sorry Swollers but its just the way things are. Your a consumer now, not a fan.

As coincidence would have it, I'll be posting something from Compass at some stage today.

I've also already passed on last nights concerns to the people concerned.

Will the staff be arrogant, unfriendly and speaking with french accents? They may as well, the beer prices are getting to be the same as Paris!

Well done Foxy. They clearly need some direction.

Whilst not defending the caterers, as long as the bottles are pint sized (and I suspect they will actually be 500ml) that isn`t a bad idea.

After all its a lot easier & quicker to serve 4 bottles of lager than wait for 4 pints...

i very much doubt they would be 500ml at £3.30.

You'd expect them to be smaller? 330ml?? 275ml??

If thats the case SUFC need to wake up and smell the coffee. They aren`t a pub, they aren`t a swanky wine bar. Get f*cking real.

No, they are the exclusive supplier of booze within the Lane on matchdays, and as a result there is room for them to charge like wounded bulls.

They sell Fosters at £4 a pop on draught don't they? 330ml bottles are usually sold at the same prices as draught pints, so i can't see why they would sell a bigger bottle for a lower price.

Back when i was a publican i would get Carling from the Brewery at about 25p a pint, a bottle would have cost about 40p, so the Gross Profit on bottles was lower. That said the actual cost of sales for selling bottles is a damn sight cheaper as you don't need expensive cellar equipment, pumps etc, and the staff don't need training much either. The club will certainly not mention that point though....:)

Rev has got it spot on.

Plus, when you consider the number of places around the ground to get quality food and drinkbefore and after - just say no.

Exactly Raul - not that it will be bothering you much inside or outside the ground other than on free entry days.

I really don't see what the problem is with £3.30 for a pint of ale or a bottle of lager. That is the going rate. As long as they are served reasonably quickly - and I thought it was OK in South Stand last year - then what is the problem? As Raul says, just wait until full time and go to one of the many fantastic boozers nearby if it bothers yous so much or even leave early.

We are allegedly a football club not a catering firm.

It sounds like our supporters communication manager/liason manager/McCabe Fag, or whatever Uncle Richard's title is today is doing a sterling job

Still surprised people buy anything in the ground as its been a rip off for ages.

Going rate ?What boozers do you go to?Crown on London Road last night was £2.50 a pint and I understand Sheaf is selling ale at £1.70 a pint this season.

They are not served quickly and most of the staff behind the counter seem to be wondering aimlessly about.

Why should I wait the service is there and we like a half time bevvy ,each to his own, to be honest my argument is that at £3.30 a can it was a bloody rip off.

We are allegedly a football club not a catering firm
Yes and we are supposedly members of and benefactors of that club, not mug punters there to be taken to the cleaners

Oh and I repeat there will be no draught lager available only bottled Carling

But they are the cheapest, do you expect them to be the same prices as the cheapest, or competitive with the going rates between Town, London Road and Eccy Road.

I drink pre match in the Golden Lion, I have no idea what it costs, I just go there because its better than other places around and I want a beer close to the ground. As for in the ground, I don't object to the prices as the beer has been reasonable on tap. Sure the service could be better and if they are selling out of date Carling bottles again then I'll have to rethink. Otherwise I'll just carry on.

was lucky enough to go to Wembley for the european cup final £8.80 for a pint and a pie , special deal

its £4 a pint at chelsea
£3.50 at man city but only £3 at old trafford

so the going rate is , well whatever it wants to be

apparently notts county still do a pint for £1.75

Pah !

You lot dont realise the costs involved running a 3rd Division Club

I wouldn't object to paying 3-4 a pint if it was a relatively decent beer such as Heineken, Becks, or Paulaner, but the prices they charge at football grounds (or indeed most venues where the consumer does not have a choice) for carling and fosters take the fucking piss.

You do realise that Heinken is no longer the cold filtered piss it used to be?

Simple Answer - Don't use the catering / drink facilities
Drink at a local hostelry near to the ground serving better and cheaper beer
Eat at either the pub or other food outlets within 10 minutes walk to the ground
Arrive at 5 mins before kick off
Watch Match
Half Time - Have a pee
Watch second half
Leave usually dejected at poor performance and result
Find nearest pub and drown sorrows
If nobody uses them then things will change
If you continue to use them then prices will continue to rise Quality will go down and the club couldn't give a shit because thats Sheffield United FC 2011 !

Sensible advice Fiery. Sdaly though, there will always be enough meatheads that will ignore it, and continue to pony up the cash.

The club ethos is now serve up shit the punters will buy it!
It's not just the beer and pies, its the players and tactics, the media and communications, manager and board, but..........................................................................
as it appears on here we can't get enough of it, can't wait for it to start
Please do tell me why is Oldham going to be any different to last season we still have 90% of the same players including 'aces' like Monty and Evans and Simonsen etc
We still have Collins Doyle etc Sorry guys the food and beer epitomise the club expensive, promises a lot, delivers bugger all but McCabe and Co know that blind faith will take you back again and again just hoping that things may get better!
With this lot in charge nothing will improve - no guys not even the beer!!!

Can't believe some people are complaining about beer prices. The only thing that matters is maximising revenue - football and certainly United is a business.

If United can sell 500 pints @ £5 they make £2,500. If they sell 750 @ £3 they make £2,250. The fact they could have had another 250 fans having a better matchday experience is no longer factored in.

It is the same logic United are using for STs and matchday ticket sales which has seen us lose 10,000 ST holders instead of come up with some radical ideas like other clubs..

If you think the ticket policy is right then you can't have it both ways on the beer. In fact you could argue the beer prices could be a bit higher to maximise revenue (assuming United are getting a cut in some way and it'snot going to contractors).
