RIP - John Scriven

Before my time but I understand any veterans of the University SUFC list will be familiar with this gentleman who has sadly passed away.

I don’t know how many remember John who was a stalwart of the list in its heyday.

In the words of his wife Julia -

John hit a spectacular shot at Dummer golf course on Friday 27th October and when his golfing partner looked across he saw John laying on the fairway. All attempts to resuscitate him failed.

Great bloke, aged about 67, no real prior health problems.

John Scriven. He would have liked being called a veteran. Hope he saw Clarke's performance, he would have loved that.

RIP John, he was a good friend of my dad, and we went to a few games together when I was a kid (he's a fellow southern Blade).

I most recently saw him at the Eastleigh/Blades game so it was a massive shock to hear of his passing.

John's funeral is in Basingstoke on 24th November, his wife Julia would like some Blades fans to sing greasy chip buttie, I'm planning on driving down and can give a lift to four others, we need to be wearing our brightest blades shirts.

I'm struggling to put a face to the name, but I'm sure I would have met John. Sad news, hope he gets the send-off he deserves.
