No need for a new thread. There's one on Rumour Mill. When confirmed they're moved over here.

Loan with a view to a permanent I reckon.
It's a shame really, I think he's a decent player and looked smart in pre season. But with the deadline now being the 9th there's less time to take any chances and if CW doesn't think he's good enough get rid.

It's a squad game and we can't afford for it to be a bloated squad.

He's decent but not for a team that wants to push for the top 6 in this league in my opinion. He's 31 too so he'll want to be playing games every week which we can't guarantee and in the long term I don't see where he gets in for us.

The priority after this season depending on how Woodburn goes is a younger attacking midfielder. I know Ricky wants us to sign Freeman who is the right type but I don't think he's mentioned it that much... :)

I don't see the point loaning him out

Doubt many clubs who are in for Holmes would be able to afford his transfer fee (£250-£400k??) - there's very little money changing hands below the Champ and Oxford certainly wouldn't be able to pay it. Therefore covering part/all of his wages via a loan is better than having him stuck not playing at Utd

Wilder has quite a bit to answer for with Holmes. He's messed him about moving north only to give him no chance at all.

For me it probably goes down as his most bizarre signing. The ship had sailed but we went back for him.

A permanent move would make more sense but as with just about everybody else, it doesn't seem possible. But Oxford should be able to pay a fee for him because they've just sol Ryan Ledson to Preston.

Can't help but feel sorry for the lad, he seems like a good character and I bet he was dying for a chance to prove himself this season. That being said, in the limited amount of times I've seen him play, he just doesn't look of the calibre we need to push on this season. If he does end up leaving on a permanent I wish him the very best of luck.

Cannot see what is wrong with loaning out Holmes, I'm sure Wilder would have preferred to a sale as he probably won't be figuring in his plans but as the window gets closer a loan deal where we save on some of his wages and Holmes gets to be playing regularly is good for everyone ,lets hope he plays well and in January we sell him, we move on,upwards, have to say it's feeling good at the moment

Hope this means there is one more AM to come.... Without Samir and Holmes there’s really no one behind Duffy especially if Woodburn is partially seen as a striker???

We are lIght there in a crucial position

There's no way Oxford can afford either Holmes or Carruthers wages. The beat we can hope from these loans is that they both play well and a bigger club comes in to sign them. Otherwise we will be stuck with their wages until their contracts run out.

Spoken like a man who has no idea of Carruthers or Holmes' wage, while simultaneously knowing nothing of Oxford's budget.

Nope, never go back is our motto, it never works second time round. Lenny will find his best position in a Championship side but I'm not too sure it will be with you chaps.

Technically he isn’t anywhere near good enough to play in our side and I don’t see him being good enough for any others technically.

It’s just if he has the physical attributes that can make him Into a championship player or not.

Its a reasonable assumption to make that Oxford's wage budget is a lot less than ours and that our pro's earn a lot more than theirs.

especially with a topknot or pony tail

I think this is a key point; can it really be a coincidence that Holmes and his hipster hair leave on the same day we sign Kean Bryan and his er, odd hair? Its like Wilder will stand for one stupid haircut in his squad, but ONLY one. Another reason to love the man.

We have never had a large transfer budget and Wilder got us out of League one at the first attempt shifting lots of deadwood in the process. He took a chance on lower league players that may just not only get us promotion but also make the step up to compete in the championship, when you have a small budget it's the best you can do.The 'trading' that Wilder has done is always risky, because for every success there will be an awful lot who are just not good enough to make the step up,it's just the way it is.We have progressed brilliantly over the last 2 years, when you don't have much money, unfortunately, there will be collatoral damage and the ones that have gone weren't good enough for the championship.

Apparently it's all abart 'balance'......... or is it 'pace'.
Anyway, tomorrow it will be different so fucking stay awake.

Obviously.

It's not quite the same as "There's no way Oxford can afford either Holmes or Carruthers wages" though, is it?

Spoken like a man who has no idea that I know plenty about Oxfords

Now then tosser I know a enough about Oxfords budget to know they cant afford either of Carruthers or Holmes wages as I'm there 3 times a week with my lad
