Obviously sounds like sour grapes now but with Duffy, Carruthers and now it seems Brooks, why would CW be looking for yet another #10. I'd have thought GK cover/competition another CB, another CM and some pace/width would be bigger priorities.

If CW is working to a budget, and he/we think we've got players here already, that can fill that roll that Holmes would possibly have taken, He as now got a rumoured 300/350k extra in the kitty to go after Leonard.
If his offers for players are based on what he thinks they are worth, which on numerous occasions as been stated, and Leonard doesn't come, we've got circa 600/700k to find a better defender. Stating the obvious I know, but puts into perspective any knickers getting in a twist by people.

I dont think Holmes has ever played above League One level (?) - the guy is approaching 30 now, so you'd have to ask why not. Maybe one of the reasons is, he isn't good enough. So I'm not too worried about this deal not happening.

Yes, he'd have been a great League One signing so for me his time to be a United player was last season. He went to Charlton instead and now we are out of League One, we move on to better, more Championship-established targets. He can carry on being a lower league star, which is all he has ever managed to be.

Its a no brainer when he knows United aren't going to match their valuation and he has still another year to play there and wants to remain on good terms with the manager, players and fans alike. But there is no evidence that we ever matched what they wanted - if indeed we ever knew what that was. Holmes is a proper Southerner and has never played above Northampton so I don't think that helped us either but who knows! I don't blame Holmes I just wish he'd have signed the contract ages ago so we know where we stand. I just hope we've not lost out on others waiting for this saga to conclude!

You could well be right. Just smells to me like he was after a better deal and got one (using us as a bargaining chip), I could be way off kilter but thats how I see it. As for losing out on others, I have no idea mate, quite possibly. But we have to trust in Wilder and his staff

Charlton have set a high value on a player and have been forced to offer him a more lucrative and longer term contract as a consequence. Robinson can feel smug now but the club will feel the financial cost both short term and long term for their 'victory'.

We have other irons in the fire and move on in our quest.

He chose charlton over us last season for family reasons. Maybe wilder wanted to get him a pay rise, who knows and who cares

To be fair I think I'm glad. Not sure I want a player with a "man bun" at sufc

I would rather a player have a Keith Kettleborough

A slight exaggeration?

We're not exactly a powerhouse of football history, but we do have potential, and life could be worse.....couldn't it?

We only achieved the highest points total in the club's history, playing the best football I've ever seen us play, managed and captained by our own. How could it possibly get any worse??

Thinking the same. Buns and headbands should be banned at SUFC.

I'm just trying to think if we've ever had a player with either, I know the Pork have had a few but that just about sums them soft wusses up.

As I've said elsewhere Tufty is magic at multi-tasking. He managed to sign Stearman whilst the Leonard and Holmes bids were still ongoing. He may even have alternatives to Holmes already lined up. Doing more than one thing at once...quite remarkable.

My 2 cents....

On the one hand its another one in the eye for the whole " you cant keep a possibly player once a side from the league above comes calling" and if we genuinely wanted him we are going to have to pay the going rate for players clubs are desperate to keep. Hope the board bear this in mind going forwaeds

But on the other I'm not convinced there aren't a whole host of other players willing and able to do just as good a job for us. There loads of kids in premier league academies we could take on loan, not to mention the rest of the football league. Was never convinced he was a season defining singing for us.

On the plus side we might get have abit more cash flying around to get leonard over the line

Finally think there is abit of needle between Fat robbo and wilder - The Charlton interview was the only time I heard wilder actively deride a job someone else was doing, so i'm not sure we'd have been the number once club they'd sell too.

I'm sure there is - there was that McFadzean business last summer as well.

Could be wrong and going back a few years but I am sure I remember Michale Zico Lake sporting a man bun on occasion?

I don't know why a few Charlton fans are being so smug over social media about him choosing to sign an extension. The fact we turned his head and they ended up increasing his wages with a new contract just means they are worse off than they were. Of course it was a no brainer for him as it took him an eternity to sign an improved contract. Who's he trying to kid? Had United matched their new valuation he'd have been a blade by now. I'm glad we decided to not offer what they wanted.
