Whenever Karl Robinson's name is mentioned, 'smarmy' won't excessive hind. And rightly so. That word was basically invented for him.

smarmy
ˈsmɑːmi/
adjective
informal
  1. ingratiating and wheedling in a way that is regarded as insincere or excessive
When you Google the definition of a word and you then have to Google the words defining the word you know you need to read more books.

If the player is determined it will happen. But Charlton will probably spin it out to cause as much nuisance for player and us that's all.

It's a waste of time, but if that's the way they want to work it will bite them in the arse one day. After all, we have a few players who might be in need of games later in the season who have league one promotion experience

Holmes and Leonard will each: sign new contracts; join us; or move elsewhere. One of those things will happen in both cases. Until one does, or Tufty says otherwise, we remain very hopeful of signing them.

Talk of "moving on" to second-choice targets should be left to those impatient members of Jimmy White's Deadline Day Army to whom a day without a transfer is a day not worth living. Sensible folk, on the other hand, will leave it to Mrs. Fluffytail's lad...

up until now it's been a doddle getting lads through the door - bar one or two (e.g. McFadzean).

Dan Burn. Gary Hooper. John Brayford. Stevie May. Byron Webster. Taffazoli. Ricky Holmes (last season). Harlee Dean. Eoinn Doyle.

We always get caught up in pursuit of a player only for them to stay or go elsewhere.

Robinsons attitude towards us has changed in the last 12 months, he always talked about SUFC in glowing terms previously and I, like many others thought he was destined to become our manager at some point.

That ship has well and truly sailed now and I think personally he is probably kicking himself when he appeared to have the opportunity to take the reigns when we eventually appointed Adkins. Since then we have been an obvious irritation for him and although he beat us to the signing of Holmes last summer we nicked Carruthers from under his nose and it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't after Baldock as well.

I can't see him sanctioning the transfer of Holmes to us at all and unless he is told by the board that he must sell or the player and his agent engineer a move Robinson will play hard-ball with SUFC.

Stevie May.
He was my top target that summer. Is he still at Wednesday? His career didn't take off like I expected.

Harley Dean, now there's a player I would break the bank for. Proven championship centre half, right age and captain of a decent team. Surely we are bigger than little old Brentford ?

They had a habit at that time of signing players that would have been good for us to get out of L1 but not so good for a championship promotion campaign. I remember he was one of them.

Agree with that but I doubt hard ball will get him far with Tufty. I believe he's a "take it or fuck off" kind of a guy.

You haven't got to related contingencies yet then B56?

:)

I had a tenner on Buddy Holly to play to a packed house in Moorhead Minnesota on 4th February 1959. I didn't tell the bookie but I'd already had a telegram saying all seats were sold...

Easy money.

Whilst understanding the reference, RC's only relate to accumulators. Your wager appears to be a single.........

Cherry n sultana scones, or scons if your that way inclined?

Oh no, I was just giving you the essential detail. It was in fact part of a Yankee (as we then called them) with James Dean, Patsy Cline and Otis Redding.

Err sorry, still no RC.

Now if you'd thought about a treble with Richie Valens and JP Richardson in the same 'plane tragedy, you'd likely get it knocked back by Mr Ladbroke.

It's still a Yankee todaybut some call it a 641.

Yes it was a 6-4-1 in the old days as well. In fact before it became a Yankee. I thought the young 'uns called them all "accies" these days.

I can't think of any bet I've ever placed (or tried to place) that featured RCs. I tend to keep things simple. Singles, doubles, trebles on the flat and occasionally golf. Tend to steer clear of football.

Interesting that Charlton have signed Billy Clarke from Bradford.... he played just behind the strikers or false 9 last year.... replacement?

So that's Marshall, Clarke, Forster-Caskey and Watt. All will expect to play.

I think they're preparing for Holmes to leave.

Charlton have just signed another player that plays in the same position as Holmes today, that's 3 players that play in his position they have brought in now in the past few weeks, surely there preparing for him to leave, either that or KR just wants to have plenty of options.

Yep, this makes Holmes' departure even more likely.

At least 5 other attacking midfielders now, and most of them can play wide or central.

Or we could just bid enough for the Charlton board to think that the bid is acceptable for a player who is still to sign a contract extension and only has 1 year left.

To a certain extent, what the smarmy one (KR) says in the press is immaterial. Of course he wants to hold onto his best player...but he doesnt pull the strings at CAFC. The board do. And if they think the offer is too good to turn down then he will be ours to negotiate a contract with.

The longer it goes without Holmes signing an extension to his contract, the more chance there is of Charlton accepting a bid from Utd, so that they don't lose hI'm for ten bob, a lice ridden comb, and a used Jonny in a years time.

Patience my friend. I think we will get him later this summer.

I don't think you can blame the Board entirely - there were quite a few fans who had been asking for something down that touchline for a while.
Any one else remember "The Fourth Side Committee"?[/QUOTE]
