Pretty much exactly the type of signing we were all wanting. Can see this guy being a big player for us.

Wilder's No.1 transfer target this summer apparently. I assume he means defensive target.

With it being a permanent deal I'm inclined to believe this, because it will be a big financial commitment.

Also, he's a long term target and plays in the position we most needed to strengthen.

We've probably been chipping away at this deal since May.

Absolutely. It rather puts all the ITK bollocks in perspective doesn't it? I hope someone has warned him that the dressing-room is riven with unrest and the owners have abandoned the club.
I'm not sure it does entirely but I'm sure any unrest is exaggerated.

Not a top 6/7 signing but certainly a signing good enough for mid-table.

Got to be happy enough with this.

Stearman isn't a brilliant reader of the game or defender, I consider him more competition for Basham. Now we need competition for Wright, preferably a left footer so they can play LCB if owt happens to JOC - god forbid.

If not I reckon Wright would be comfortable enough there - he is left footed after all.

At any workplace there are tensions from time to time. When it's a football club it has to be a crisis and the whole thing is falling apart. Owners and Manager at each other's throats and dressing rooms getting lost. No grey areas permitted.

Wright is not going to be first choice. He's had his season of glory.

Permanent deal! Quite surprising. It won't be a cheap one.

He had a year left at Fulham, but cost them £2m two years ago. I'd estimate the fee will be between 400-700k.

Wage wise I thought it would be difficult to do a permanent deal but I suppose the contract length goes a long way to enabling it.

Reckon Brayford and Done moving outwards helped cover the cost of Stearman's wages. Just Guessing.

He's the best that we would be able to attract or afford. Great signing, good age for a CH, and the sort of experience that we were lacking.

Despite some being in defence of our previous signings, which are fine, you can't put a price on experience. Don't underestimate his potential to help O'Connell along too.

There is no way Stearman is coming here to be competition to Basham or anyone, he is here to be our number one defender.

I don't think he's quite as good as you think anymore. Still a good signing nonetheless.

From a Wolves supporter on 365...

He's shite.

Basically 8-9 years ago he used to get all the basics wrong a lot of the time but had pace to recover. He can't really run now so you're left with someone flinging himself around like a ragdoll when he's out of position, chest beating, stroking his mullet, constantly abdicating responsibility while showing a load of PASHUN.

I hope you haven't paid much for him...

What a little ray of sunshine.

I'm still happy with the signing.

Because Tufty knows he got the absolute maximum out of him last season. We're now a step beyond his level. Nothing against him at all. He's a great pro and did a fantastic job for us, but he wont be a regular starter in future.

It's not what I think about the player it's what I think about the signing, someone who's played nearly all his career in the championship, being signed for (estimated) over £1m and apparently Wilders number one target is not coming here to play second fiddle to anyone.

As long as this 'substantial undisclosed fee' is not too substantial, it could be a decent signing.

Was thinking the same Pinchy, all the names mentioned and then bang the last 2 have flown in without a word. Goes to show, no one, other than the people that need to know actually know anything about our business.

You're very quick to jump on people for guesswork in their posts Pinch, but this reads...

Because Tufty knows he got the absolute maximum out of him last season.

... as if you have a inside line to Wilder or if he's said as much.

I've got mi tin hat ready but that sounds like a certain Chris Morgan without the mullet.

So here's a bloke who's been here and done it at this level....has commanded a decent fee and likely salary to match....has a year left on his contract and we think he's has cost between 400k-700k?

So by this reasoning, who thinks we should still stump up the extra money Southend are wanting?
