Exactly my point. Nothing coming in from a defensive (at best) midfield line underperforming and losing the ball, sometimes without any opposition pressure.

When Brewster gets three chances a game without scoring (like McBurnie) then we can criticise, until then it’s pointless to scapegoat him in a team doing nothing.
He’s shown flashes in some games the through ball for McBurnie against West Ham. The ball cleared off the line against Burnley. But until we can pass the ball quickly, aggressively and crucially positively all our strikers will find it very difficult. Didzy is different as he isn’t an orthodox striker and instead drops deep but if he’s doing that then his strike partners can’t even if they had the ability to do so.

He's in the very early stages of his career. He hasn't made a promising start, but I'm not going to write him off based on anything that happens this season.

I'm not writing him off. There's clearly a player in there. I just want him to pull his finger out and give it a go!

Agree completely. He's a young lad, he should be running himself into the ground, coming looking for the ball, trying to link play and get us up the pitch. His effort levels have been really poor.

I wouldn't be totally shocked to see us move him on, he may want out already.

And yet he is the scapegoat for many.
It was norwoods best game of the season last week imo but I have issues with him right now. He’s always had physical limitations which have been covered for him by either the formation and competition in the champ or by two and then 3 really good athletes alongside him last year. This year fleck looks fucked Lundstram hasn’t hit last years levels and Berge is crocked so he’s now on an island athletically and is being exposed for it. That said he isn’t anywhere near being our only problem it’s just right now with things as they are I don’t think he’s part of the answer either.

We won’t move him on for at least another season or two just because of the amount invested in him. He’ll come good imo.

Spot on mate.
Blame the twat who spunked £20+ millions signing him.

Think back a few months.....95% of our fans were saying “there’s no chance we’ll buy him as we’re not ambitious enough”

Some were even saying “let’s pay 30 million because in a few years we’ll easily double our money”
Many said “we need to pay him what ever he wants...as though salaries paid out mean nothing”

At the time I said “don’t expect much from him in his first season”
Its probably 2 to 4 years when becomes one of the best strikers in the PL.

I bet that most fans would cut our losses and sell him for 15 million...if offered.
However when he’s an England regular in a few years...the same fans who wanted him sold will be blaming the club for selling him.

That blind delusion is just as annoying as those writing him off.

Oh god, and now all the 'Billy Sharp did x' posts.
Billy Sharp looked good at times in the lower leagues, as has Brewster in his very limited time in the Championship (20 games).

Both look completely out of depth at this level.
The difference is, one has done for 6 months, the other for 15 years.
But we've got Billy Sharp
Billy Sharp
We've got Billy Sharp.... 😊🤣😍

I was warned he was just a finisher before we signed him. I didn’t realise how that could be taken to an extreme.

Given the obvious hole that needed filling, this is definitely up there as one of (if not the) most disappointing signings ever.

We can only hope that he will do will on a good team that creates chances (hopefully us in the championship) because given what we’ve paid, he’s going nowhere.
A couple of through balls from him show he has ability and is able to play balls that no one else in the team seems capable of.
Yes he has been disappointing but what do you expect from a young player with no Premiership experience playing in a poor team ?
Give him time.

At £23M, I definitely hoped for and expected more. We've overpaid enormously, if this is all we can expect right now.

There is no way those involved in the transfer expected so little to start with. We couldn't afford that luxury.

Of course I will give him time, and when his performances improve I will say so. But I can only describe what I see today.

Like most fans I am always guilty of expecting newly signed players to look like world beaters and am usually disappointed.
I thought that Brewster would add that spark but it was an optimistic reaction rather than a measured view of who he is and what experience he had. Probably the best of what could be purchased for less than £25m
The optimist in me thinks he will start scoring and tear through Championship defences next year, but there again I am expecting Hackford to take the Prem by storm this year !!!!!!

He's a spectator with the best season ticket in the business. He gets to watch the game from the middle of the pitch while doing absolutely fuck all.

You can complain all day about the lack of service, but Burke, McBurnie, McGoldrick all manage to touch the ball far more times than he does (even when you adjust per minutes played).

Touch stats:

17. Rhian Brewster, Sheffield United, England 190 touches
18. Jack O'Connell, Sheffield United, England, 101 touches

He's had basically the same amount of touches as JOC, who's been injured for the entire season! The only other players with less recorded touches are Jayden Bogle and Kean Bryan.

Yes he's young, but he's not fluffing chances, he's not losing the ball constantly, he's not falling over every time the ball comes near him, he's not even playing badly... he's not playing at all!!

He's the 2020/2021 version of Brian Howard. When he's on the pitch we're playing with 10 men.

People keep saying "there's a good player in there somewhere". How the fuck do you know? He never gets involved! You might as well compliment the corner flag (except the corner flag didn't cost us £23.5 million).
He's probably realised that it's the worst season ticket in the prem and even the supporters aren't bothering to watch anymore. Not defending him tho!

Our corner flag probably cost us nothing because Jamie Vardy bought it

Unfortunately, the fee we paid has nothing to do with his ability. Negotiation and transfers are solely business related. We'd have the same player if we'd signed him on a free.

That player is a young lad with lots of potential, but literally no Premier League experience.

Judge him in 18 months, when he's developed a bit more and he's not playing in one of the worst performing teams in football history.

He may well prove to be a waste of money, or could go onto play for England.

We definitely needed another thread scapegoating a 20 year old thrown into one of the worst attacks in the history of the Premier League.

Incidentally, Mousset had the least amount of touches yesterday at the time he was subbed. Brewster barely touched the ball after replacing him. I think Hackford touched the ball twice. It's almost as if our forwards don't get good service or something.
Maybe you're on to something...hmmmm

Need to play him all the time. Every week. Constantly get him on the pitch and pack as much experience on his shoulders as possible. We're not going to stay up this year so might had as well get as many PL minutes as possible under the boots of a striker who next year could be instrumental in the Championship for us. Quite frankly won't be taking anymore 'he's not ready yet' bollocks next season. I want a £23m man up top who can play week in week out and knows the system.

So Klopp and Howe are better wheeler dealers than us. What a surprise
Eddie Howe has been one of the most wasteful managers, transfer wise, in Premier League History.
had a quick look at his history, as seem to remember a couple of decent buys

Brookes (us) £10m
Mings (Ipswich) £10m
Ake (Chelsea) £20m
all worth at least double what he payed out for them - Brookes could be £30m+, Mings £30m+ and Ake has just gone to Citeh for £40m

however

Jordan Ibe (Lpl ) £16m
Solanke (Lpl) £19m

which only goes to prove that the best wheeler dealer is defiantly Jurgen Klopp.
who has raked in nearly £60 million, for Brewster, Ibe and Solanke - legend.

But we've got Billy Sharp
Billy Sharp
We've got Billy Sharp.... 😊🤣😍

Billy Sharp, Billy Sharp, Billy Billy Sharp,
When he gets the ball he ....... oh hang on he doesnt.

The exact same ones who can't believe how DCL has developed and thought we had Everton's pants down for 750k which 500k went on a goalie not good enough for the championship. The rest wasted on the forward from Bradford. Unfortunately all of that was a symptom of spending so long in div3
We do have an issue with coaching the younger players once they get to the 1st team and that has been brought up elsewhere. Deano has been mentioned as someone we should be using as a forwards coach. Jags for the defence and Billy for the poachers.

The spine of the team of the team has been ripped out with only Egan left. This transfer window is the most important one if we hope to keep the kids confidence from being ripped out.
I don't know why Besic didn't get more games last season because when he did he played well nor why he wasn't a permanent recruit in the summer. He's international with premier experience with a value we could afford and should have replaced Norwood if we were playing with Berge. Norwood was ok while Lunny was at the side of him for protection. Berge would have then had the protection of Besic.
To bring Bogle on I would have thought 20mins as sub in front of Baldock would have been the way to go after his chance in the Brighton game but he didn't get anything then from nowhere replaced Baldock.
Back in the olden days Edwards learned playing alongside Bobby Hatton.
Brewster needs to play alongside someone like Sharp who's going to tell him what to do and where to go. McGoldrick seems too quiet for that job
I do think we have got a lot of good young players coming through that need our support and not name calling. If we were any other prem club they would all be out on loan
We failed miserably with the loans this season from Henderson and Besic last year to Ampadu this. If we can't afford to buy top quality experience we need to use the loans for it until we can

who knows maybe brewster and hackford will be our strike partnership in the championship

When we signed him I said that it smells of a "Dom Solanke type of signing"... It seems I was over selling him with that one.
Solanke seems to have found his scoring boots in Championship, probably just what he needed he's another young un. It's amazing how hitting the net builds confidence, irrespective of what division you're in.

Put Ronaldo up front us and he wouldn't score

Brewster and Mcburnie will both score 20 goals in the championship next season 😎😎
