Hopefully we start to see some movement now he’s back from international duty

Nixon saying Liverpool haven’t quoted a price, but any bids (one of which is seemingly us) have fallen well short of what they’d like.

What do we reckon? Liverpool probably thinking £25m and we went for £15m to test the waters?

Suspect this one will take a while, not least because Liverpool don’t seem to have any idea right now of what they want to do with him.
Given that we signed Ramsdale for an initial <£10m, our bid for Cash was £6m rising to £10m and have been widely quoted as getting the two Derby players for less than £10m up front...probably £10m rising to £20m with a buy-back and significant sell on clause.

Playing devils advocate with this buy back.

A successful stint with us doesn't mean Liverpool are going to be clambering for him back.
He did well at Swansea and it sounds like they want to sell him.

If he gets 10-15 goals for us that would be fantastic, but that doesn't automatically get you a move to the Premiership Champions.

If he gets 20 plus goals, that's a different matter, but how good would it be having one of our strikers getting 20 odd goals for the next 2-3 years??

Aye
Although I wouldn't be distraught if one of ours netted 15 (or even 10) each season for next 2-3 years !?

If Brewster comes to us and gets 20 goals then on the Watkins scale he'd be worth £70m. Chris Wilder could do some proper damage to the Premier League with that kind of money.

Aye
If he "comes to us and gets 20 goals" I reckon we'll (already) have done "some proper damage to the PL" !

Massive risk in that if he's a success we can't retain him past the end of this year we're left with a huge hole to fill in our squad, he's not likely to be starting straight away, and it's still going to cost us a couple of million.
I think it'll be at least the new year before we see the best of him.

A loan move would not be a “ massive risk “ ..if any way shape or form ....Hendo loan worked out ..the idea of loans is to use them as loans and obtain potential quality without the risk .....refer to my original point ..Liverpool dont need £20 mill... but maybe prepared to sell for not much more than Ibe and Solanke ....
IMo I wouldn’t risk this buy ...

Hendo loan worked out ..
That implies there is a risk ie it doesn't work out and you've used up your loan place and payed out for fee and wages.
I fully accept a transfer opens you to more risk, and therefore more reward but no risk on Loans just ain't true.

He’ll not be going to Villa, Palace have signed Batshuayi on loan and only play one upfront, surely this has legs...

Does look like all the teams who are reportedly in for him are going for their other targets. Newcastle - Wilson, Villa - Watkins, Palace - Batshuayi,

If Liverpool want to sell and we cant buy do you think a loan is doable?

The biggest risk I’d argue is on whether there’s a recall option that can be activated in January. We were absolutely screwed over on that front by Spurs in 2009/10.

Theres one on Ampadu i know that much

The risk is probably low on that I think, simply because they’ll have an enormous squad. Had De Gea broken his leg last December it could have been a very uncomfortable January for us. With Ampadu the risk is probably only if he hasn’t really had the minutes Chelsea expected and they want him to go elsewhere to get them.

I dont really ever see Brewster fitting in at liverpool, is far from the type of striker Firminio is and is more of a play on the shoulder striker than a drop deep for the ball and create striker

The Liverpool board have been incredibly tight on the money for player acquisition front throughout Klopps reign which makes this a goer for somebody. It seems they want Thiago with the likelihood that Wijnaldum (out of contract in 12 months) and Brewster go to fund it and bring costs down. Liverpool's net spend under Klopp is really low, and has been underpinned by player sales; two Champions league final appearances (around 200 million); a Europa league final, and lucrative Super Cup and World Club Cup victories. It's no surprise to me that with Covid and a quarter final Champs league exit last year, FSG are tightening the purse strings.
Brewster needs games and I think they'll way up taking the biggest bid or the one with the best clauses (buyback, percentage of next sale etc) or a combination of the two.The keenness for said clauses to be included over hard cash, shows that Liverpool's world leading acquisition team have a lot of confidence in the kids progression.

*To be fair to FSG they have built a new training ground and stand (debt now paid back), and they have (now delayed) plans to rebuild the Anfield road stand.

Daily Telegraph reporting that Liverpool want £25m for Brewster. Brighton the main club interested. If a PL club don't match the asking price, they'll loan to Swansea again.

Article doesn't mention us.

The more i think about it the more i think could it be a smokescreen? was mentioned by someone when the squad wee in scotland and he didnt shy away from the question, very un chris wilder like

they’re selling becuase they can’t afford to buy.

This is worth reading:
Swiss Ramble - Liverpool

I’d quite like a member of Fenway Sports Group to explain their transfer policy of selling to fund reinvestment elsewhere. “Think Sheffield United...pre-Premier League” would be a delightful bookending of the “Think” series.

The article is also written by Chris Bascombe, who Liverpool fans seem to rate as informed – he fits into their “tier 1” of journos.

Also, we should get one of these.

At the very least arguing about who to put where would kill time until the end of the transfer window.
