Basically having a bit of a moan that our procrastination on a striker is going to cost us in the long run. As much as we moan about Villa and Fulham, at least they set their sights on a target and get it done quickly. We'll fuck about for weeks and then end up signing a 2nd/3rd choice when it goes tits up.
Not at all what he's saying. He says it's complicated, you say we're fucking around.

If he's out of price range we should have moved on by now. Liverpool aren't likely to suddenly drop their expectations and sell him to us for a song are they?

I personally don't think he's worth upwards of £20m, we bought a top scorer from Swansea and he has an hilarious thread with part of his name substituted for 'shitty' on this forum.

There can't only be this lad and some unknown kid from Arsenal available to score goals in the whole of world football surely?!
If we didn't think it was possible, of course we'd have moved on. You make out like they're too stupid to conduct transfer business.

A large chequebook certainly helps with that. We ain't got one.
We've got one somewhere according to this. Has anyone checked right of the back of the large kitchen drawers?

We need to be progressing somewhere - at the end of the day the question becomes would we have been better getting say balogun 2 months ago so he could have had a preseason and acclimatised.

Waiting until Deadline day Leaves us open to getting nothing over the line (we have seen that happen before). Far to much risk for my likening.

The board need to decide one way or the other - if they are serious about Brewster than go and get him in, if it’s too much (fair enough it might well be) go and get the next best alternative in and have someone contributing.
I think the board want to decide which division they want to be in, if we can't afford this one then we might as well disappear into the one below.

What a ridiculous statement.
This is beyond pessimistic.

Wild guess... they all want to be in the Premier League.
BONUS reality check... We don't automatically get relegated if we don't spend big money on a striker.

Not at all what he's saying. He says it's complicated, you say we're fucking around.

Did we know at the end of last season that we needed a 10-15 goal a season striker? Yes
Have we bought one yet? No
Are we fucking about? Yes
What are we fucking about at? I'm not sure

Not stupid, just slow.

Bettis will know this bidding lark is often “one big game”. Its like a game of poker...who blinks first loses
It looks like 3 clubs are interested and all of them think Liverpool’s asking price is too high.
If we get all emotional and throw our toys out of the pram by walking away...then we’ve panicked and cut off our nose to spite out face.

The complication is that the strength of Brewster is “Huge potential”....he’s no where near the finished article and might stop developing.
So he’s a risk for the buying club...hence is value should be quite low.
Liverpool are sensing the interested clubs are desperate...so they are playing the game too...hoping for someone desperate to over bid.

I think if it’s a loan deal....then we are his best choice. However if a club is willing to bid money that is probably LFC preference however if seems they want to retain some power over Brewster future with buy back clauses.

Fans shouldn’t get emotionally attached to a transfer....it’s business....we know what we can afford and what advantage we can offer.
If Liverpool insist on a deal that‘s terrible for SU then it would be madness for SU to sign him at any cost especially with our reduced income due to covid.

Some of you lot must be absolutely unbearable to sit near at Bramall Lane. Take a hard look at what you consider "supporting" Sheffield United should look like.
People are different mate.
My dad really pisses me off at times with how negative he gets but he's just pessimistic about the things he cares about the most.

I follow all things United more than he does, but United winning and losing is life and death to him. The amount of run ins he has with his own supporters though once he gets on his negative 'everyone's shit' train is unreal.

Personally I cant understand people like that, why you'd constantly try and expect the worst must be a really shitty way to live. That said, it doesn't mean that you don't care and it certainly doesn't mean that you don't want the best for your club.

You're one of those who thinks comments on a message board automatically transfer to behaviour at a match aren't you

What must happen is we must pay what they want otherwise move on

Paying what someone wants is irresponsible and naeve. Fortunately Steve Bettis is a cool customer...he won’t crumble under pressure and overpay.
You need to stay calm and pay what something is worth to you...and what you can realistically afford.....taking into account manageable debt.

Assume you’re born in 97.....imagine wanting to buy a 2nd hand car...that you really like....you’re desperate to buy it.
The Parkers book price guide says the car is worth £8.000.
You see some scratches but know you can polish them out...so offer a very realistic £7000

He says loads of people are interested...so he wants £14,000.
You only have £8000 but could borrow an extra £6000 from friends and family.
You inform him you‘re not paying £14K and expect him to sell it to other buyers.....because he said loads were interested with several big offers.

A few weeks later you notice the car is still for sale but now he’s reduced it to £11K which is still £3000 over the odds.
You ask why its still for sale....he says he’s had time wasters...and might not sell it now but £11K would force a very reluctant sale.
You again tell him the official valuation is £8K and that’s the most you’ll pay in cash with no time wasting.

He says he‘s still confident he can sell it for over 10K because he’s still seeing plenty of interest.

The big question

Do you get all emotional thinking this guy is a dick head and walk away throwing a few insults in his direction or do you stay amicable and just wait in the wings?

If someone does give him £10K (like an Aston Villa) then it’s dissapointing but not a disaster because the buyer has overpaid.
You are already well prepared...looking at other cars where you can offer £8K and these might end up being better...also you won’t be in debt.

HOWEVER weeks later you notice the car you want is still up for sale...with a further reduced price of £9K.
You approach him again...explaining his adverts are costing him money....and you can give him £8K in cash this afternoon...as per the official book price valuation.
He comes to his senses....your patience and doggedness paid off....and a deal is done.

You tell him the official valuation is £8 and that’s the most you’ll pay in cash with no time wasting.

He says he‘s still confident he can sell it for over 10K because he’s still seeing plenty of interest.

You move on to another car offering £8K which might end up being better...also you won’t be in debt.

I'd go and buy another car of similar spec from someone who is more sensible with their valuation if I needed one. If not I'd wait it out.

We need a striker so waiting it out isn't really an option.

Fair point.

But it's spreading needless (often uninformed) negativity, even if isolated to the message board tbh.

And I'd be stunned if these endlessly negative posters never say similar things in pubs, at work, at the stadium etc.

I'm not saying that you love a stretched out, utter-bollocks analogy... but you love a stretched-out, utter-bollocks analogy, don't you?

Wild guess on your part as to the real reason.
What else could it be, wilder has said numerous times that if a player doesnt 100% want to join then it’s see you later, move on to another target

Rhian coming to us on a loan to buy, 5m up front, 20m to be paid at end of season with a buy back clause of 34m. Balogun coming in on a loan also.
My source? This thread. I take bits and pieces I like the sound of and reword them as I please. I feel like I'm not the only one for some odd reason...

What the actual fuck ?
