Mr Scuadmore has had a large hand in Pompey's survival recently. When they were in the Prem, he offered all the other clubs a ballot on whether Pompey should get their parachute money early. 19 votes against, but the money went to them anyway.

And now the news isn't about a premier league club going bust he doesn't give a flying fart

I couldn't see all the graphs properly on my phone but what the fuck do Bristol City pay people they have a frightening wage bill for a basically turd team.

With the new parachute payments, it looks to me that the premier league want to try to keep it as elitest as possible. The FA have created their own monster they cannot control resulting in less and less filtering down through all to eventually grass roots. It seems to me that the only bright spark to come out of the whole saga is the academy. If we keep the quality coming through we may have a chance, the minute we neglect it -----. There are a lot of good clubs throughout the S&HFA with many grass roots coaches quite well qualified. The S&HFA coaches association hold coaching sessions using our academy to further educate these coaches. Lets hope they continue to do a good job. If all the extra crap had not taken place, we would be raving about our academy and would have had players with England caps playing for us.

Excellent analysis, a very formative summary of the Club's parlous financial state.

League Revenue.jpg

^^^ That has to be one of the most disturbing images which explains all that is flawed in our game - it proves (like any of us really needed it)that the difference in a team in the PL and L1 is actually quite "minimal" with the exception of TV revenue - which now, in this Sky Sports driven era in football, has become the be all and end all for all football clubs. The reason why similar sized clubs can no longer compete with teams which, in all honestly are probably "smaller" clubs, and the reason why so few / no teams manage to "do a Wimbledon" anymore, never mind being able to dream of doing a "Forest" or "Derby" like they saw under Clough - it can not, and will not (without external interference from a (similarly worrying increasing trend) oil garth taking matters into his own hands) happen ever again.

If anything, this should atleast make all supporters aware that the clubs' focus in the next few years HAS to be based around making the wagebill sustainable for our own revenue (not McCabes revenue, but solely the clubs), and generating sucess, and unfortunately until that time, revenue, from generating a steady stream of academy talent.

Obviously if we get back to the Championship this year, the task becomes that much easier (but still demanding), however should we fail this season, i think we'll see a dramatic change which see's the likes of Chappel, Tonne, McAllister, Long et al chucked into the fold - ready or not!

Many might say this is a good move, however i doubt many would seriously fancy our chances of promotion if we were reliant on a team mostly made up of 18-21 year olds, however good they might be.

Changes in store in the next few years in anycase, and a long hard slog if we're ever going to return to the "poisened chalice" of the PL.

But if sugar daddies didn't exist, clubs wouldn't act so recklessly. In the years before wealthy benefactors got involved, hardly any clubs went out of existence, Accrington, Gateshead, Maidstone, Aldershot and Newport are the only ones I can recall more than 20 years ago, many more recently than that of course.

The real shame is that there's more money in football than could have been dreamt of even 20 years ago and it's nearly all siphoned out of the game.

This is absolutely true. If clubs only paid £30K per year to players, there'd still be a queue a mile long wanting to sign up. It's the sugar daddies that have made it such that sugar daddies are necessary.

And Agents - and TV money

And Agents - and TV money

True, to an extent. But agents and TV money are constants that can be accounted for. When some oil man comes in and injects £200M into a club, the only way other clubs can compete is to spend money they dont have.

I wouldnt throw my money away on a football club said:
Really? Surely you already have.

I've spent thousands on my football club and given up huge amounts of time for no financial return and in relative terms a much more significant amount than McCabe. I appreciate he's given it a go even though he's failed and we're in the shit for the foreseeable.

But if I'd been a millionaire I'd have gone for it as well, I'd just have made a better job of it.

so what proportion of 60 million or so have you spent ?
Lets not forget when McCabe joined us he was in the countries top 100 earners
after a decade with us hes now a damn sight poorer ,as I said if I had 100 million which is what we are talking about I dont think Id want to give 60% of it away to fund some sportmen s wages
I bet if you won say 6 million on the lottery , be honest would you give United 4 million
I bloody wouldnt
