Return of the KMac

Kevin McDonald is a great player, composed on the ball, can carve a team apart with a sublime through ball and would be a excellent replacement for Coutts.
But I can’t forget that he walked out on us, the minute he was offered more money he was like a rat up a drain, thinking he was going to a better side at Wolves. So for that reason alone I’d have to say, over my dead body, you woolly haired mercenary Scottish twat !

Bit harsh on woolly haired mammoths....
:rolleyes::tumbleweed::fattwat:

Of course we won't be the same, Coutts is a huge loss....but, Wilder is a top manager, and as such will already be considering the options we have, many of which are quality, therefore let's not get down or mope about this. We have more creative options than many teams, imagine being able to call upon the likes of Duffy, Fleck, or Brooks, so we're not exactly flat in this department. We also have other, tried and tested players who can do a job if called upon, so chins up everyone. The upside is that the players know how to play, and we have quality throughout the side, so onwards and upwards boys and girls, no time for pessimism. We're on a roll and it's down to the opposition to figure out how to stop us. UTMB

Having a pint a few weeks ago and the topic came up about squad depth, I called that the only two players we couldn't afford to lose was coutts and fleck. Coutts more then Fleck in my opinion.

He will be out for the rest of the season and it's the biggest blow, he makes the whole team tick. We will go with Lundstrum until January and please let's get behind him. Too many righting him off already, let him get used to our style (we are a very very intense side both with the ball and without it) if he doesn't work.......I'd go after McDonald, in terms of like for like he is as close as we will get and I think is realistic.

What about offering Michael Carrick a place on the coaching staff with an 18 month deal? It sounds ridiculous but I think he would consider it!

Thoughts........

I think Lundstram will be fine until January at least.

He had a decent game against Ipswich replacing Coutts and we won the second half tonight.

He isn't coming into a poor side where he needs to make an impact to help turn things around. We've got a great team brimming with confidence and in my opinion our best player in Fleck alongside him. Everything is set up for him to be a success.

You don’t really want to give our best player by far any credit. It stands out a mile from all your contributions. You don’t know a footballer when you see one. Pathetic.

I won't pretend to have an encylopedic knowledge of every footballer everywhere, but John Fleck dropping deeper and (this is where I feel like Judas) John McGinn filling that role is the best plan B I can come up with.

This.

In the meantime, if we're looking for like for likes, then Fleck doing Coutts' thing and Carruthers doing Flecks thing is as close as we can get.

As wounded as I am by this, and as superb as he is, I don't forsee this season going into the history books suffixed with 'if we hadn't lost Coutts'

If we can resign Ched we can resign Kmac. We could do worse.

Lundstram is the man. The Fleck Coutts partnership didn't happen by magic. Wilder's teams are about partnerships and tomorrow I expect Fleck and Lundstram to be on that training ground learning each other's game. pass move pass move

It's amazing really people don't have more faith (I know I still find it hard) but after a few weeks of last season O'Connell and even Fleck got written off. Lundstram hasn't had a full pre season with us (important only if your Coutts it seems) so let's just get on with this hey.

I think Kmac , is a good player ,
But if memory serves me right , he didn't track back , or put in the effort back then
and was also critisised over his tackling as well as his lack of goalscoring also
Now I'm sure he's devoloped over the years ,
Into a box to box midfielder , with a high pressing game that's comitied to his teams cause
However I think he wouldn't fit it our TEAM ethos ,
Of all for one , one for all attitude .
But I trust Sir Chris , and if he thinks he could do a job then who am I to
say otherwise , lets be right before last season most wanted to bin coots and freeman ,
So if he can change them around into first names on the team sheet
Then I trust him with our clubs money and future .

Charlie Adam, not getting a game at Stoke, not in Couttsies league but would do a job and can net a few!

We need another Coutts. McDonald would be alright if he could do it consistently as he did in his first season here. Whoever we bring in needs to have that physical presence, guile on the ball and passing ability. Lundstram has the potential to be that player, but needs to improve.

We’re effectively having to do what Arsenal needed to do when Patrick Vieira left. They still haven’t managed to replace him after 12 years, but then they never had Chris Wilder did they?

Closest player I can think of to Coutts.
It would be a perfect fit IF wilder believes he could work on his attitude.

Never rated MacDonald, pleased when we offloaded him......What’s Jose Baxter up too these days.....lots of you Blades idolised him as I remember,,,,,,,,Sitters

Coady. Has that boat sailed with him signing a new contract or would we be willing to splash the cash? He would fit like an old shoe.

sorry his scruples are not the type we employ
Wilder wants 100 per cent team players, gifted as he is McDonald has ego traits that bar him from coming back

Possibly, but with Wolves converting him into a central defender, will he slot back into a midfield role that easily? Unfortunately whoever we bring in will not be able to hit the ground running. It’s too key an area, Coutts and Fleck make the team tick. That doesn’t happen overnight. Perhaps that’s an argument for letting Lundstram play. He’s got his chance now. 9 games until the window opens

We all know a decent player when we see one, Coutts is clearly in that group, so was Andy Reid when he came hear, so was Cowans, Speed, and any number of players we've had over the years.

Someone mentioned Charlie Adams, he's another with know-how, decent skill, and can put the fucker in the onion bag.

Weird that people would rule out McDonald - if we wanted a like-for-like replacement then let's check out the best passers in the league. McDonald has a higher pass completion rate than Coutts:

Good player, but as foxy said, not a wilder player.
He's too lazy.Be lucky to cover our back lawn over 90 minutes, never mind a football pitch! !!

All the criticisms on here would have been thrown at Leon Clarke of 18 months ago. Prior to last season, you would obviously say Clarke wasn't a patch on Macdonald.

Personally I think he'd slot in perfectly and Wilder really would get the best out of him. In fact, looking st what he's done with other players, the prospect of getting KMac at his best is a mouthwatering prospect to me.
