Retired - Ryan France

Ryan France was an awful example of how we'd lost control of the purse strings. He was a nothing player who was signed, seemingly, for no other reason than to stop Wednesday from signing him.

UTB

Yep just a no mark we didnt even need when we signed him.

We got mugged and he is another Blackwell crap signing.

Fucking get in there. We should never have signed him.

"Shame for the lad" my arse. The boy has earned more in his short career than many of us will earn over our lifetimes. I'd invite him to go invest it wisely and make it last.

yes, because players at alfreton and in leagues 1 and 2 where France spent time are all fucking millionaires aren't they you dumb fool?

sitwell has described you perfectly

If a player has to retire for medical reasons, isn't there an insurance payout?

(Talking of expensive players, I met a relative of Alan Smith last week. He told me Smith gets £48,000 a week).

OI!!! Enough. If you've got fuck all to say about the issue, then perhaps it's better to keep your cakehole closed?

In fact, you know what? Fuck this.

What a pathetic set of comments in this thread. As someone pointed out above; the blame should be on the club for signing him not on the player. If you're a player and think you can still play the game to a decent level you'll sign the contract; if you think you can't you retire. We offered him a contract; he thought he could play so signed it.

It's bad luck; bad management but not malicious on the player so I can understand the horrible level of vitriol against him. At least he's taken the decision to retire and therefore not cost us any more money. He could have waited and still get paid.

One reason for all the vitriol, 'jealousy'. Short of a lottery win none of us will ever experience the level of earnings that some pro-footballers earn in their football career. So it's fair game to slate them, especially one's we see as undeserving by being a bit crap.

Was alright in the days when the footballers average wage was comparable to our own, but now they're all millionaires it's okay to slag them off as though they're inhuman scum.

Who needs expensive sociologists?

Why does it always come down to money ,when I was in my 20's if I had been told I couldn't play football anymore it wouldn't be compensated by any amount of money and I didn't play at any level near what France has done.

That was my original point but I got slated for it so I thought i'd join in with slagging him off because he earns more than me. ;)

What vitriol? What jealousy? I've simply said he'll do alright. From the point of view of the club, we're better off without him on the payroll. He'll be financially sound... why bring any of this nonsense into it? I fail to see why I've been insulted on such a level as I have been today. If you want to bring the word 'jealousy' into it, then do so, but don't project that onto me, because I've not been vitriolic towards him in any way. In fact, I've been complimentary to him.

"I fail to see why I've been insulted on such a level as I have been today."

I'd take a random sample of about 20 of your posts, and ask yourself that question again.

:)

You know, I've just reread the entire thread. And nowhere have I said anything insulting about the guy, I haven't said he's a shit player, I haven't insulted any other members... I've said he's an intelligent guy, and he can take the money he's earned during his finite footballing career and invest it wisely, and enjoy the rest of his life.

You can see why I'd be labelled a "real life fuckwit" and a "dumb fool". All very warranted.

Around a similar time you were questioning the length of my penis (it's enormous BTW) after being arsey for no clear reason. I sense a similar tone to many of your posts. Maybe I'm not alone.

Given that comment was a reply to an arsey comment of your own, it wasn't entirely unnecessary arsiness.

What vitriol?

How about these quotes from the thread:

"Fucking get in there."

"If I ever see you I'll be asking if you're going to give any of the money you stole back to the people who actually work for a living."

"Good riddance, fuck off and don't ever come back unless it's to apologise"

Go check again. Only the bold quote was mine. And that's because (as I said) we should have never signed him. As others have mentioned, he was a crock, and an obvious one at that. Signing someone that the piglets have decided against signing due to concerns about his fitness JUST to try to piss them off.... that's only going to end one way, and it's not going to go in our favour.

For the other comments, I suggest you take it up with the people who wrote them.

Where did I state my posts were solely in reply to yours? My posts are about a range of posters in this thread not just you.

Setting aside the petty bickering, if he has to retire, do WE get some compo under our insurance?

Hmmm... If the insurance covers the cost of a replacement then it's probably not worth the cost of a stamp on the claim form.

Can we pretend he wasn't a footballer but a Rolex or a Mt Blanc pen? That usually does the trick.

This is sad news on a few counts:

- firstly for him. He has had his career cut short and no matter how poor he has been for us, it is not nice.
- secondly, the money we have wasted on his wages. Perhaps we will get some back from insurance, but if we've been paying the guy the reported 10k plus a week then it is a very poor investment. He has offered absolutely nothing in the 2 years since he has been at United and porbably cost us somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million quid.

Plus the money we've had to pay for replacements, on top of that.

The last two were mine, and you know what? They might be harsh, but I stand by them. Ryan France has been a massive waste of money. He hasn't in any way, shape or form justified 99% of the money he has been paid, unless of course he's been on Statutory Sick Pay, which I very much doubt. Still, even if he's has to stand the first three days that's not much in two years, is it?

I have had stick on here for supporting players some deem beyond even the basic courtesy of no wishing them a painful death, but I cannot find one redeeming feature in any aspect of Ryan France's time as a Sheffield United "player" bar the time he wore a shit jumper to visit some children in hospital last Christmas.

I would genuinely ask Ryan France if he felt that he'd earned the money he's been paid by Sheffield United and if he'd consider giving some or even most of it back to those of us who don't earn thousands of pounds a week as a gesture to the fans who have paid for his two years enforced holiday.

And I don't believe anybody at any future home games would even bother taking their hands out of their pockets to clap him if he was paraded before the crowd at a match in the way other past players are. I even suspect that he would get booed. And why? Because he's been paid handsomely for basically being poorly.

It's a shame that he's no longer able to play football professionally - if he was still able to play he might have managed more than ten games for us, and his money. He will no doubt be able to invest some of his money and put his degree in P.E. to good use, perhaps in bullying school children in gymnasiums or on cross-country runs.

It's true that he can't continue in his chosen career, but considering he chose not to turn professional until he'd finished at university then he's hardly had a one-track-mind towards football. Plus he'll be able to use his money so he can perhaps do a job that he enjoys rather than doing one because he needs the money to pay his bills every week, unlike the majority of us.

I'd be quite happy with half a million quid sat in the bank - no more 50+ hour weeks, certainly no starting at stupid o'clock in the morning. I'd carry on working, but I'd probably have a rather easy life ot it. Much as Ryan France will no doubt be having.

So, the question remains - will you give any of the money back, Ryan? Because if your wages were based on value for money it would only be enough to live for around three days.

I still dont think he is a real player anyway.

Just a signing we made up so it looked like we had more players to choose from.

Anyway apparently he is a Wednesday fan so I dont think he will be too upset about screwing money out of us for 2 years.

Couldnt be arsed to read all this but after the first few posts I must say they are frankly outrageous. United signed France and he got injured and now he may have retired............and? Calling him all of the names under the sun is a joke and embarassing. Incidentally, how much do you think Ryan France is worth? Hes not married to posh spice FFS.

What your saying and forgive me for the harsh language I am about to use, but.....its bonkers!
