I'm surprised about Kean Bryan. He doesn't stand out as a LCB, LWB, LB and certainly not a CB. I'd rate Jack Robinson slightly better as a 'filler' for all these positions.

I hope the terms offered are commensurate to what a 3rd choice, Championship squad filler would get. If he gets better terms elsewhere, his agent has played a blinder.

Phil Jagielka, John Lundstram, Simon Moore and Jack Rodwell will depart the club when their contracts expire this summer, as will youngsters Ashton Hall and Tommy Williams.

Ethan Ampadu will return to his parent club, Chelsea, following his season-long loan.

The club wishes all the departing players best wishes for their future endeavours and would like to thank them for their service to Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Kean Bryan has been offered new terms.

No huge surprises, god knows what will become of Rodwell after this, not that he'll be short of a few quid.

Plenty of gas in the tank for Simon Moore, hopefully he gets a regular gig around League One for the next 5 years or so, still got a lot to offer at that level.

Screw Lundstram, bad advice or not, he's his own man and if he ever resurfaces for an away team at the Lane in the future, I look forward to hearing the reception he gets.

Shame for Jags' career to end on such a sour note. If the rest of the squad have half the career he did, they'll have done extremely well.

More may go but these will be ones still under contract and we will aim to get them sold.

If the player in question is happy to settle for a lump sum that is less than the remaining value of the contract, and we perceive there to be no way to get another club to pay more than what we'd save (be that via a transfer or loan), then it makes sense to do so if a player isn't in SJ's plans. Otherwise it's pointless to do so

This is the released/retained list and solely relates to players whose contracts expire on June 30th this year. There are only 5 on that list and four have been released. Not sure we could have asked for more really.

Personally feel a bit sorry for Lunny. Yes he's an adult and should have more about him, but he obviously took some shitty advice from his agent and then decided to stick to his guns - Just look at Duffy's experience to see where JL's career could go.... Wilder and Hecky both, repeatedly, stated that Lunny was the consummate professional around the club. Just managed to paint himself into a corner and never hit those Fantasy League highs of 2019/20. Not bothered he's gone mind as his performance levels have continued to tail off over this season.

More than likely been offered reduced terms, reminded that his PL games came because of injuries to JOC and Robinson, and viewed as a more viable cover than someone in the U23s, that said a contract means sod all, come August or January could find himself on the transfer list with 5 or 6 others

He’s no finished...

That’s about it for him now. If he’d been able to keep fit he’d have got some games at the back end of the season to show that he could still perform at a decent level. But he wasn’t. So, now he’ll be hoping someone like Joey Barton takes pity on him and gives him a contract at a lower league club. In about five years there’ll be a small article about him filing for bankruptcy when the reality of not earning football money kicks in.

To be honest I'm a bit sad that Jags is released. Because when we sold him back in 07 he said he would be back to finish his career at the Lane. Just bad timing I guess to retire at such a time, in such a dismal season .

Hopefully he'll stay connected to the club in one way or another.
