The Chris Wilder era is over and we are all looking forward to a new start. The club did spend a lot of money but we had to because we were starting from such a low base. Wilder brought such rapid success that we managed to get promotion with an ageing team that had hardly any Prem experience and was, frankly, short of quality. Simply by keeping us up for a second season Wilder and his team earned the money that was spent on new players. Consequently we are in a far stronger position financially than we were before.

It is purely theoretical now but I agree with our owners; Wilder would have been the best manager to bring us up next season. Through a combination of factors that in reality we as supporters know fuck all about, Wilder is no longer at the club; it was a fantastic ride and I for one am grateful for the last few years. I’m sure the new manager will have everyone’s support but as usual results will decide whether this is a good appointment

It does when you don't give him it,your saying to him no so the contract is taken away by the party offering. If I offer one million pounds for Sheffield United and the seller says no does that mean I've bought it or maybe not 😂

That stupid argument works both ways round. He didn't renew, so therefore did he sack Watford?
They offered him a contract, he turned it down wanting more money. So who rejected who exactly?

I'd be surprised if Eastwood breaks into our first team ever.

He's 25 in October and has only really played in League 2. (1 app in Championship and 1 app in Scottish PL).

Obviously he wanted to stay but wanted more money.Watford obviously didn't think he was worth it,otherwise he'd have got it,if the managers that good you go that extra mile

Difference: The sack, you get no choice. Bang you're out. You pick up your "sack" and go , no discussion.
Renewing contract: Your term of employment and contract is up. The Company or you have a choice of parting ways ,both have a right to decide without any legal obligation what is best.

I've never offered a new contract to someone I'm sacking, neither has there been much of a negotiation.

I'm not completely stuck in the 90s, I understand he can watch tape on the player, speak to coaching staff and contact players by phone and email rather than face to face meetings... but making such huge decisions seems really early r

If your contract at work is not renewed, will you update your CV and in your next interview for a job, tell them you were sacked?

Footballers, managers and support staff contracts are very interesting. They are basically Fixed Term Contracts that at the end of term, parties can choose whether to renew or not. It is a two way thing. Tied into the contracts will be clauses, which is not normal, whereby compensation for early termination may be paid by either party. The thing about FTC's is that if someone works for the company for more than 4 years, then the FTC automatically becomes permanent. It is why you do not see many contracts that are for more than 4 years. There are some and obviously if a contract is renewed after 4 years then they become a permanent member of staff so additional clauses are written in to allow for a "end of contract golden goodbye" so as to prevent potential tribunal claims. Be interesting to see if our "friends" across the city pay out these golden goodbyes.

Thats what I said. Sack: you are gone no choice. Contract expires. Both parties have a choice of renewing : or not.

Or alternatively, the contract is sitting on a table waiting but Jokanovic walks away without signing it.

Good summary. Think as well Wilder wanted to sign players who would be up for the challenge should we be relegated too. As much as this can be criticised I think it is a realistic view too.
He always had a concern about us being relegated. These last few windows since promotion have been about signing players with the intention of improving the team in the PL but are likely top end Championship quality or better. Aside from Berge potentially because he's a different pedigree.
The thinking is that if relegated you can bounce back up and go again, just like Norwich, Fulham, Watford have done and the hope is you improve on it till you end up in a situation more like Burnley or Palace etc. where your staying up each year

Not sure "what" is fair, but I don't know how j woolston identifies so I wouldn't like to assume gender or sexuality.
All we know if that they have/had a husband and they went to an all boys school.
Either way, whatever the answer, I bet they would have been very popular at that boys school.

Following the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign, Sheffield United's official retained and released lists have been submitted.

Phil Jagielka, John Lundstram, Simon Moore and Jack Rodwell will depart the club when their contracts expire this summer, as will youngsters Ashton Hall and Tommy Williams.

Ethan Ampadu will return to his parent club, Chelsea, following his season-long loan.

The club wishes all the departing players best wishes for their future endeavours and would like to thank them for their service to Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Kean Bryan has been offered new terms.
