Retained and released list

Not sure when it is due but I would not expect any surprises. Release those out of contract and retain the rest until SJ has had time to assess whether they fit his design.
I thought (possibly yorkshire post) somewhere had said today - Sunday.
Which is why I tweeted the question out a few days ago.
Not that I expected a reply from those concerned or dare look at most of the replies I get.
Which is of course the way to treat the internet and not throw a hissy fit because someone has said hurty words about you.

I always look forward to seeing the released list for SUFC. It's the same feeling I get when Ive been desperate for a shit most of the day and my arse finally touches the bog seat. The relief I get at seeing some of the turds disappear round the u bend is something else. Only 1 months pay to still be paid for some of these wasters such as Good ol Lunny, Invisible Man Rodwell, and 'its a very nice life' Simon Moore (semmingly paid very well to model our goalkeeper kit every pre season but then not much else for the last 4 years, yes that's 4 years since he last played regularly, think how much coin he's 'earnt' in that time...)

There can be exceptions though, Jags being an example. Time for him to go now but he has helped us through some difficult times these last 2 seasons and I wish him all the best for the future. He's been a great servant to the club (daft hand ball v Wigan forgotten).

IMO, Simon Moore is a model pro and would have given 100% given the opportunity, he also had a nasty hand injury at the start of the season. He doesn't pick the squad and he didn't buy Fodderingham. Ramsdale also thanked him personally in his post match interview.

Agree with all that SB but it doesn't hide that Moore should have left the club a long time ago - he is a L1 standard keeper. God knows what would have happened had Ramsdale been absent for any extended period of time last season with SM, WF and the forgotten man MV vying to replace him. I still shudder when I think of the goals SM let in against Man Utd

Agreed. Henderson said similar, too. He might not be good enough for the team, but that doesn’t mean he’s not good for the squad or the club as a whole.

Wilder tied him down with a contract when Stoke were sniffing, then erased him from existence in our second Prem season*. Can't really blame Moore for that.

No, I don't at all - I blame CW (as I do for a lot of recent, catastrophic errors in recruitment & retainment). Another mystifying decision - surely he could see Moore was simply not good enough for the Champ and certainly not the Prem.

Unfortunately for CW, his method of scouting and recruitment is rapidly becoming outdated and is being overtaken by a in-depth data based methodology - it's no coincidence that teams such as Brentford and Barnsley are succeeding. I will be be genuinely interested to see how he gets on in his next role, especially if it is to be at WBA, who will require a huge squad rebuild on quite a constrained budget. Perhaps though, that challenge i.e. scraping around for bargains, may suit him better than having £100m+ to spend.

Has Slav even been in the country yet? How can he sort the list out when he's probably not even met the squad?

I'm sure he could liaise electronically with the clubs u-23 coach and get a good idea what's going on.

Because he should already be up to speed on every player in question, supported by the current coaching staff. Agreement with SJ has been in place for >2 weeks which provides plenty of time for all required discussions and decisions.

It won't be possible for him to watch them train/play at all as they're on their summer break (save for a few hanging around the training complex) and contracts will have expired by the time the squad reconvenes for pre-season.

He was contracted with his current club until 30th June.
Unless that has changed I doubt we will see him in Sheffield until July.
However that may not stop him recruiting and I am sure he has had a good look at the players in our last 10 matches.

I was under the impression that the Prince had paid some sort of compensation to get him out of the contract early.

What we do know is that he was in Switzerland (was it) for the contract talks, then Portugal this weekend for the Champions League final.
I'm not completely stuck in the 90s, I understand he can watch tape on the player, speak to coaching staff and contact players by phone and email rather than face to face meetings... but making such huge decisions seems really early still.

I think the retained and release rule is within 7 days of the end of the teams season. That does not mean that it has to be made public It is possible that the players have been informed personally. Even if the likes of Robinson are released it doesn't stop a future negotiation when Slav is in place

Isn’t the definition of a surprise something you didn’t expect?

I suppose it could be a 'known unknown' type deal. You could expect surprises in general without knowing (obviously) what they were specifically.

Surely only the club are 'to blame' for Moore still being here?
They keep him because they see him as a member of the squad.
(and all keepers make mistakes in various games throughout their careers - Henderson v Liverpool and at Villa Park ?)

And who made all the decisions regarding recruitment and retainment?

Do you seriously think Moore is good enough for Prem or even Champ level?

i think moore and foderingham will definetly be moved on but we need a genuine challenger for rammys position maybe thats verrips in any case think it is possible slav will bring another keeper in

Verrips had a good loan from what I can make out on Dutch Instagram, joined them when they were in a similar position to us but they gave it a better go than we did at staying up.

I've no idea why we have 6 goalkeepers on our pay roll atm with really only 1 who anyone can say with any confidence is good enough for 1st team football at the level we now find ourselves at.

Rammy (top class keeper)
Foderingham (lower level keeper NGE)
Verrips (untried and jury is out)
Eastwood (untried and jury is out)
Moore (lower level keeper NGE)
Amissah (young lad and untried).

We seemed to have been collecting keepers for fun and another example of where I couldn't see the logic behind some of the previous recruitment policy. Where was the thought of a slimmed down squad in numbers with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity?

We should be looking to lose 3 out of that list. Foderingham, Moore, and either Eastwood or Verrips should be back up to Rammers. Only Rammers and Amissah should definately be retained from that list.

There’s Marcus Dewhurst too who fits the same summary as Amissah.

Blimey it gets worse then, 7 keepers on the books, although Dewhurst and Amissah are only kids in reality and should both be given time to come through and challenge for a first team place. All we have done is block up the pathway for the youngsters to get a look in. Two senior keepers is what we need with the young lads there to step in on the bench in case of need.

Moore is fine as a back-up, he's only bottom end Championship/League One standard as a regular but so is Foderingham, so signing him was a bit weird, having both is unnecessary.

Moore had a bad injury, hence signing Foderingham, although it seems Verrips may have been adequate backup. I think it’s time for Moore to move on and, if a team somewhere is prepared to pay Foderingham’s wages we should probably let him go on a free. I wouldn’t be confident with either of those in goal if Rammers was injured, even at this level and I don’t see any long term benefit either.

I'd go with Rammers, Verrips as back up, with Amissah and Dewhurst as the young lads working their way up the food chain.

Eastwood, Moore, and Foderingham to be moved on for the sake of their own careers.

I agree with you, but I can't see Verrips wanting to spend another season as back up, especially as he's likely to have a number of Dutch teams interested in him after his exploits at Emmen
