After beating Port vale 3-0 the blades are 3 points clear of Derby with one game to go. We also have a better goal difference. Anyone been watching them recently?

Would have been, but they like to ensure all the kickoffs are while I'm at work.

Same here Foxy. I remember the days of the reserves playing midweek in the evenings

It's a bit strange that they're doing so well when so few of them seem close to the first team, but well done. I think the club arranges quite a few friendlies, so they may have more match practice (together) than some other reserve teams.

Bear in mind that the reserve league only has six other teams and they are Burton, Walsall, Port Vale, Forest, Derby and Stoke's third team (their reserves play in the Premier reserve league). You would expect United to be challenging to win that little league.

Fair point, and the lack of competetive reserve team matches is a problem. If things don't change, should we try to find a local lower league feeding team, in order to send players out on loan? We have tried loaning out a few players this season, but not all of them have had as much playing time as we would have liked.

I remember them playing on Saturday afternoons at the same time as the first team. The last season they did that was 81-82

Indeed. As a kid (i.e. before I could go to away games without my dad and pre-radio Sheffield) it was the only place to get regular (every 15 minutes) updates on how the first team were doing.

I remember going when I was about 4 or 5 years old, at that time they mostly used to play the reserve team of whoever the 1st team were playing. I asked my Dad if they added the 1st team and reserve scores together to see who won

Not forgetting the glory days of being Northern Intermediate League Champions in 1985.

Didn't we win a reserve cup in the late 90s? Or was it the league? I think the final (or deciding league match) was at the Lane and remember a poster saying he spent a lot of the game watching (laughing at) Gareth Taylor who was in the stand and really cheering the team on.

We won the Central League in the mid 60s I can remember going to a game where we played PNE to win it, I remember Bill Punton playing

I remember a time when Saturday after Saturday during the season the Stop-Press column of The Green'Un would say "Steve Cammack scored for Sheff. Utd. Reserves"

1986 :-)

I went to the Ball Inn ground - literally a 2 minute walk from my parents house - to watch the penultimate game that was supposed to clinch it. Unfortunately, we lost 2-1.

We did get the title in the last game though, which was switched to the Lane.

That was 1966. I remember seeing a pic of Coldwell with the trophy at the end of the game. Punton wouldn't have been playing as we signed him the following season.

Nothing is too anal for me :-)
