I wasnt at the 2-1 win against Newcastle (Cammack, Keeley o.g), 1-0 win against Boro (Eddy pen) and the 1-1 draw against Luton (Woodward) so adding up the 17 games I have listed above 19 were scored at Lane End, 12 were scored at the Kop End (I havent included the Newcastle, Boro and Luton games) so you were right

If we’d beaten Derby (1-2) and Luton at home, who were relegated, (1-1) draw we’d have won the league.

I started regularly watching Utd at the end of that season. Baptism of fire the next season and to be honest it's been a real roller coaster since. I really feel that this team has the makings of something good. We are not there yet but Chris Wilder improves the team, year on year, something I don't think we've ever done in my memory. Long may it continue...

Colquhoun played in 38 league games that season.Think he was suspended for the first game of the season due to getting many discipline points in the previous season. He missed the first two games of the 1975-76 season but went on to play 36 league games (TC was suspended for the first two games of the 1975-76 season too for picking up too many disciplinary points in the previous season). Dearden played in only 20 league games in the 1973-74 season and 31 in 1974-75. Think he was injured in Furphy's 2nd game (1-1 at Everton) so Staniforth and Nicholl were competing for the number 9 shirt for the rest of the 1973-74 season. Not sure if it was due to an injury that made him miss the first few games of the 1974-75 season although he played in pre-season matches, maybe Furphy decided to give Cammack a chance to prove himself with the number 9 shirt. Cammack scored two in the first 4 games of the season, not sure if he got dropped after the 2-1 win against Newcastle or got injured. Dearden then became a regular from the 3-1 win against Ipswich, he missed the Xmas fixtures (Cammack played at Boro and Nicholl against Arsenal) before wearing the number 9 shirt again but Garry Jones (on loan from Bolton) wore it for 3 games in February. Cammack then reclaimed the number 9 shirt for that famous 3-2 win against West Ham only to lose it again to Dearden after the Good Friday 2-2 draw at Coventry.

Talking of Don Givens , I was at that match and if I recall correctly ( and if not I'm sure someone will correct me ) he only took the penalty because John Mathews who should have taken it lost his bottle. In fact Mathews was only our second choice penalty taker as Tony Kenworthy who was bloody good at the job hadn't been picked by that numpty Martin Peters .

So I think the opprobrium directed at Don Givens on this thread is a little harsh.

You're probably right about that, but I know Kenworthy took a few and was decent at it, had he been on the pitch he would have been the one to step up when Mathews decided that it wasn't for him.

Someone told me a few years back that they'd met Don Givens and when they told him that they were a Blade he apologised and said that he still had nightmares about it to that day.
