In general I think it is acceptable to make mistakes (its how we learn and develop), but to keep making the same mistakes and shuffling the Titanic's deckchairs in an attempt at making things right we show our stupidity and will dwell forever in a Groundhog Day.

How many times have we changed the personnel on the various incarnations of the Technical Board ? Is the Technical Board fit purpose ? Was it ever?

How many players' contracts have we signed that give the options to the player?

How many managers have "subverted" the Technical Board process (Clough definitely if we believe McCabe and Phipps, Adkins very probably)

How many past it or crocked players have we signed and got stuck with? - due diligence my arse.

How many sets of compensation payments have we had to pay out (we are on our 10th manager (and acolytes) since 2007 - Warnock, Robson, Blackwell, Speed, Adams, Wilson, Weir, Clough, Adkins and now Wilder) - and then there are the players we have had to pay off (eg Higdon) because no-one wanted them.)

How many transfer window disasters have we had where we missed every one of our targets?

How many key players have we not been able to hang on to - (I could suggest we all vote for Dean Hammond as player of the year - surefire way to get him sold )

How many chief scouts have we had ? Have we overhauled what is probably what has been the weakest area of our organisation for decades ?

Its easy to blame Adkins for Hammond, but for me the problems at this club are not confined to the playing staff - they are structural and go a lot deeper.

New club motto "ut nunquam discite" - We may never learn.

Fantastic post, and all spot on, the only one who'd disagree has left the forum.

is there any possible way he might be alright with a full pre season? Clutching at straws I know. Is it just 1 year has?

Fuckin' behave! :D No chance.

I'd like to know when the agreement for him to join us permanently was put in place. Was it when he first arrived, or was it when he extended in January?

If it's the latter, then Club Retard went full retard yet again.

Hopefully the cull means the times are a changin' but I think a lot of that depends on who we bring in.

Edit: I've just read that back and realised...if it's the former, then we gave an untried, untested, expensive player the option of a permanent contract before he'd kicked a ball.

Fucking hell...

What odds on Hammond being 16/17 POTY? For all his faults thus far, he strikes me as someone who will at least try and force his way into the team.

Stranger things have happened...

8,000,000/1. Longer odds than Leicester winning the league. He'll be trying as hard to force his way into the team as he did to force his way into the player awards do after the Scunny game.

Wonder if he can be done for breach of contract if he refuses to be a sub?

player really working, was Gordon Cowans.

And Stuart McCall. If an ageing player had class on the ball, and is intelligent enough, then he'll contribute. Enthusiasm and selflessness are also a requirement.

Hammond was poor on the ball and offered nothing but positional discipline (I'm being kind - that was his lack of legs). It might be that his contribution would have looked better if he was surrounded by energetic players. But he wasn't, so why buy him, Nige?

Phil Thompson
Dennis Mortimer
Beattie (second time)
Deano (third time)

The only time I can recall an old player really working, was Gordon Cowans.

Marcus Bent - second time, totally lost all confidence, bottled it and looked genuinely nervous/scared when a ball was played to him and he was anywhere near the box. The only player I can think of who jumped lower than Connor Sammon, because he was so scared of actually winning the ball and having to do something with it.

Take a step back.

He was by all accounts a decent footballer, at a prem club.

What if he'd come in and done well - club would have been slated for not tying him down if we'd lost him. we essentially bough not loaned him a year ago.

All signings are a gamble and we've lost massively here.

That's why you negotiate to make it our option for an extension. Or you give him half a dozen games and then get into talks with him.

Never have I heard of a loan player coming in and, before he's kicked a ball, having the option to take up a year's extension without the club having the choice to say goodbye.

We got DH on loan in October, Brannigan was at the club until December. Makes you wonder. Perhaps he just falls under the spell charismatic managers like Clough and Adkins?
