Is that what you would have preferred this season?
Yes I know we all wanted automatic. If we would have been involved in a relegation battle the whole bad feeling around our club would probably be less. With the struggle against relegation the positive results would have made most feel that much better and would have been celebrated more. DW would have gone before Christmas to be replaced by ? Survival would probably instil a feeling of, that we could fall no further, leading to a feeling of a more positive outlook for next season. Now most believe we have not yet reached anywhere near the bottom.
We are in the play offs, with many suggesting that they have had enough and will not go. If by some miracle we win, will people buy season tickets for next season or will the numbers drop? If they do drop will we be the 1st club ever to get promoted and support to fall? It may have happened before but I cannot think when.
Anyway just a few thoughts from a depressed Blade.

This has to be the bottom, we cannot get lower than this.

No disrespect to the teams below us, but they are really, really shit... Even compared to us!

i dont think the position in the league has much to do with the doom and gloom.
even if we did (still could i spose) go up, after the initial celebrations reality would set in again.

the reality being we have hardly any decent players, an owner who wont sign any and sells anybody half good for a pittance. we'd be like an old dog who chases his ball down the garden, then realises hes too fucked to bring it back.

No. I can wait until next season for that.

And Swiss. 'The teams below us are really, really shit'? Such as Hartlepool? Crewe (who totally outplayed us at BDTBL)? Bury? Oldham? Stevenage? Portsmouth? etc.

Be in no doubt, anybody who shows any talent will be flogged by McCabe to 'service the debt' and we'll look back longingly on this season when we finished nearer the top than the bottom.

Div. 3 has been pathetic this year. Next year, it will be stronger.

Had you been on the pop last night Boo?

I don't see how surviving our second ever relegation battle in the third tier in nearly 125 years would have instilled any sort of positive reaction. Indeed, I suggest there would have been more action in the car park than on the pitch had it occurred.

The lethargy that surounds the club at the moment is frightening. Supporters resigned to failure, players appearing less than capable and unwilling to "sweat blood" for the cause, a rookie management team looking exactly that and a club owner . . . . . well the less said about him.

Although I don't buy the "this league will be tougher next season" line, primarily because I think the quality of football from top to bottom is on the decline, I can't see us having hit the bottom yet and it can definitely get worse.

this and so much this...

A few years back i remember sitting and watching United at home winning every game (drawing or losing away) and we were trying to get into the Premiership. I thought to myself them IF we go up it will be hell, getting ass raped by Chelski or Manyoo week in week out, no fun as a supporter. BUT if we consolidated our top 6 finish in the championship at least we can watch them win.

I have the same bloody feeling but about getting promoted to the championship. We will get hammered by Forest and Ipswich and both of them are shit.

Oh the joys about being a Blade

I honestly don't think we've bottomed out yet, still too much dead wood around. Like the majority I don't expect us to do anything in the play offs (and fear for us if we do), in fact I fully expect the low point to come at the end of next season. Only then will we start to climb out of this trough. Blimey, reading this back I sound like the chap that's stood on the corner of John Street / Bramall Lane for the past 20 years with a banner saying "the end of the world is nigh".
Roll on season 14/15! :)

bottomed out ? in the last decade or so we had one losing season , the relegation year, other than that weve been top 10 in every year, made 5 play offs missed out by 1 game on 3 other occasions and promoted auto once
2 consecutive play offs is hardly dog shit, a tad disappointing, granted as we like every team that misses out thinks it could have been better

fans of milton keynes and tranmere , now they will be down, and if donny lose tommorow theyll have blown double the lead we blew

20 years??? And the rest.... :D

To be honest, I think there was more negativity surrounding the club when Blackwell was in charge. Certainly felt like it on here some days anyway.

Which of the two relegations have you air-brushed from history?

Wow, I've never looked at it like that. For a minute I thought we were in the third division. In fact, who could ask for more?

You should never measure yourself against other people's (clubs) failures. People can fluff up this season as much as they can but is it wrong to expect more/better. So what if Donny blow their lead, on the last day of the season it's still in their hands and what difference does it make to us? or how MK or Tranmere fans feel.

Prepare to succeed and don't prepare not to fail, come on we're better than this.

I agree hardly dog shit but what I was eluding to was the downward spiral since relegation from the Premier League. This downward spiral hasn't bottomed out.

Hmmm. Automatic promotion, or relegation battle? Rather like asking us to choose between Christmas Day, with a nice roast turkey with all the trimmings after a morning of present frenzy, discovering the gifts include a Ferrari, a villa in Spain and no socks, or the alternative of burnt toast, a visit from the mother in law who will want to watch EastEnders instead of Wallace and Gromit, and repeated kicks in the bollocks from the Oakland Raiders' field goal expert Hung Donkeyman.

Excuse me while I mull it over......

Relegation is next season................................................................................................................................................
