Plymouth Argyle boss Peter Reid has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Sheffield United.

The Blades are looking for a new manager following relegation from the Championship and the departure of Micky Adams.

Reid is one of several names being linked to the job at Bramall Lane with one leading bookmaker placing Reid as one of the favourites to take over from Adams.

Mark Robins is the clear favourite after resigning as manager of Barnsley but other names in the frame include Roberto Di Matteo, John Pemberton, Chris Hughton and Aidy Boothroyd.

Reid, who has not been paid for several months, still has another year left on his contract at Home Park and all Argyle fans will hope that he will stay but will understand if the lure of a bigger job is impossible to turn down.

The latest odds for the Sheffield United job:

Mark Robins - 9/4.
Roberto Di Matteo - 3/1.
Peter Reid - 4/1.
John Pemberton 4/1.
Craig Short - 5/1.
Chris Wilder - 5/1.
Danny Wilson - 8/1.
Aidy Boothroyd - 10/1.
Russell Slade - 10/1.
Chris Hughton - 16/1.

Reads to me like 'linked to' means 'a bookie has given odds on him'

The idea of Aidy Boothroyd is haunting. Danny Wilson and Peter Reid aren't much better either, but I think the rest represent pretty decent options. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it was Robins, and he'd be a good appointment.

I'd be happy with Russell Slade.

He's been around for long enough and always done a good job at clubs in hard circumstances without ever been given a crack at anything where he can really build a succesful side.

Just the small barrier of a certain Mr Hearn, a man who will not give up his man without a sizeable payoff. Which would rule Slade out I'd say.

He did very poorly at Notts County and Brighton and lost more than he won at Yeovil.
I can't see anything to recommend him over Tisdale or Hill other than he had two brief, unsuccessful spells as our caretaker manager 13 years ago.
We'd have to pay out compensation for any of them, so why not go for one of the two who've known nothing but success?

Order of preference:

Roberto Di Matteo - 3/1.
Mark Robins - 9/4.
Chris Hughton - 16/1.

I'm not a fan of manager's wearing baseball caps. Pulis and Slade are the first bosses I think of in that regard.....it looks naff
