Just listening to football weekly which is full of Donny fans moaning about a ref called Trevor Kettle, who obviously has a bit of a reputation. Got me wondering what refs do you dread seeing on the back of a programme of a match day? Personally at this level for me it's Andy Haines, absolutely hopeless who always bottles the big calls.

What about you?

dont think theres been much to moan about ref wise apart from bashams red being a bit keen
any mistakes thats cost us in games have been self inflicted

I agree ..... referees haven't really cost us too many points this season, however, I think the standard of refereeing in L1 is, and has been for several years, appalling.

Its most likely to be utter incompetence, however, you always have the niggling feeling since the cheating West ham year, that Brooking has handed out edicts to referees to give us a hard time .....

Could've saved you all posting by just saying "WANK!".

Kettle every time.

I think it is probable you can overcome refereeing inconsistencies during the course of the game by being the better team. Just seeing Trev appear on the teamsheet really makes me think the outcome of the game will be entirely random based on his incompetence. To be fair, I don't think he's biased in any way (not like Dean, Poll and Riley, who seem/seemed to favour certain teams regularly) but has no clue on how to do the job and is, basically, shite at it.

It used to be George Tyson.

Mind you, I remember when I was about 9 or 10 in the late 80s and these two older blades were abusing him and he turned round directly to them and gave them the old Groucho Marx eyebrows. Took it well, fair play.

Don't think we ever won a game he refereed.

Trevor Kettle is the son-in-law of the guy who works for the Football League who makes the appointments.

I'm with you all regarding being alarmed at the standard of refereeing being allowed to keep at such a low level. In my opinion it is so much more troubling that it is so inept and not only due to the man in the middle.
There are 5 paid referees that attend each match. The referee on the pitch, 2 assistant referees as linesmen, a 4th official and even 1 more in the stands as an official assessor.

At least 4 of those have inter-communication by radio. There is no excuse for missing infringements without at least one member of the "team" of officials seeing it happen and able to tell the others. Commonly, if there are complaints from players they are faced with yellow or red cards. If there are public complaints their answer is to add other paid referee to a game's , as in European competitions where they have yet 2 more on the goal lines. Even these 2 extra rarely add any value to infringements on the pitch.

We should copy some of our other sports such as cricket, rugby, tennis etc (with much less money in their game), by having TV replay facilities. It has been proven to be a fair method of reviewing decisions without adding significant extra time to matches.

It is about time referees put their house in order before many are made redundant through video refereeing.

I also think that supporters would welcome correct decisions, even if against their favourite team, cutting down on angry fans and subsequent violent behaviour.

Having watched the 2008-09 season review the other day (it's on youtube, I'd link it but can't get on youtube at work!) and Mike Dean fucked us over good and proper that year, the Kilgallon sending off at the Sty was ridiculous, never ever been a red card! And then at Wembley, could & should have had at least 2 pens, the one where Kyle Walker was basically rugby tackled was an awful decision!
