Can anyone think of a player brought in from outside by Blackwell, Speed, Adams or Wilson (except for Cresswell in 09/10 and, very briefly, Reid last season) who has significantly contributed to an improvement in United's performances or results? I can't.
This is something I was discussing yesterday at the match. Our recruitment/signings/scouting has been appalling over the last 5/6 years. Really bad.
Taking away loans last year/season we signed the following off the top of my head (may have missed some!):
Bogdanovic - Flattered to deceive and only would score penalties. Lazy and disinterested.
Britton - Big disappointment but now doing well back at Swansea.
Ertl - Very ordinary and injury prone
Jordan - Awful and forever injured
Calve - One good goal and then nothing and was in the reserves
Parino - Praised a lot on forums but how many games did we win when he played -gives wingers way too much room
Wright - Mistakes when he played and then always injured
Doyle - very average midfielder. Can't pass or shoot.
Collins - Had a better season this year but error stricken
McAllister - Had a few decent games but cannot hold down a first team place
Philliskirt - Nowhere near the first team.
Tonne - Odd games but cant get in the team which is worrying considering lack of quality on show from current starters
I was hoping with the new management team and scouting network with dearden coming in we may see some improvements but so far it has been even worse. Look at the latest batch of 'game changing' signings:
Flynn - Done next to nothing so far. Not getting in the team, lacks pace, strength and looks so lightweight
Mendez Laing - Scored one and made a couple but looks very poor overall and looks overweight
Porter - He has scored a few but genuinelly his all around play has been pretty hopeless
McDonald - Started well but gone off the boil and lacks pace/moblity and strenght. When opponents start to scrap he disappears
Williams - Had an ok debut but now injured.
Who was the last permanent signing we made that you can say 'He was a success'.
