Does anyone have a list of our record signings?

Rather than list of most expensive to least, I mean the actual new record signing eg;

Brewster (£23m) Sept 2029
Berge (£22m) Jan 2020
Mcburnie (£17m) aug 2019

And so on...

So Rammers would be in the above on the list of expensive signings but wasn’t an actual record breaker.

We have broken our record 5 or 6 times in the last 12 months, but prior to that it took us best part of a decade to break it.

Hutchison was the first £m player.

I think the list from that goes:

Hutchison £1.2m
Deane £1.5m
Akinbiyi £1.7m
Davies £2.5m
Kilgallon £3m
Beattie £4m
Egan £4.1m
Robinson £8m
Mousset £10m
McBurnie £20m
Berge £22m
Brewster £23m

Record received is Brooks @ £12m

I think it goes back from that as follows:

Mousset £10m
Robinson £8m
Egan £4.1m
Beattie £4m
Kilgallon £3m

Top 10 as I know it (inc. add ons)

Brewster - £23m
Berge - £22m
McBurnie - £20m
Ramsdale - £18m
Mousset - £10m
C Robinson - £7m
Bogle - £5.5m *
Lowe - £5.5m *
L Freeman - £5m
Egan - £4m

* Not confirmed. But most consistent reports said it was £11m for the pair. Although it was reported as low as £7m & as high as £15m with some outlets.

All signings made under Wilder. Shows how far we've come as a club.

He's after the ones that broke the record. Ramsdale, Bogle, Lowe etc. didn't break a record

Who can forget the greatest white elephant of them all Chris Guthrie from Southend United £100k in 1975. The Board broke out in a cold sweat as we paid 6 figures for the first time for a player. Contrast that with Weeds first six figure signing a certain Mick Jones who we gave away some 8 years earlier!!

You can put Freeman in between Egan and Robinson as well. Not sure on the exact amount but he was a record signing...

The first so called record signing I can remember was Brian Gayle £750k ( might be wrong with the figure ) 1991 . Again I could be wrong but wasn’t that the record transfer until we signed Paul Ifill in 2005 for £800k?

Remarkably Foxy this quoted thread below isn’t listed as one of the similar threads despite being named identically!

This was from the discussion two years ago – think a few on the list changed as the discussion advanced (eg Jones 650k, Gayle 700k):

Of those that broke the record at the time, presumably it’s this?

Other question – with today’s signing, has there been a longer period than 11 years where the transfer record has held?

Egan (over £4m) 2018
Beattie (£4m) 2007
Davis (£3m) 2006
Akinbiyi (£1.75m) 2005
Deane (£1.5m) 1997
Hutchison (£1.2m) 1996
Jones (£700k) 1990
Beesley (£375k) 1990
Morris (£160k) 1989
Young (£160k) 1982

I've wondered why we've allowed the narrative from the selling clubs to be reported as fact when it comes to the fees we've paid recently but this is the list as I see it. Brewster isn't yet our record signing - we paid Genk somewhere in the region of €25m for Berge (about £22m) whereas Brewster was £20m rising to £23.5m. Yes, if he's a success, Brewster might become our record but he's not at the moment.

Luke Freeman at £5m was a record breaker for about 24 hours until we announced Robinson

Perhaps “guaranteed” rather than up-front, but yeah I think that looks about right. I’d be very interested to know how much of the add-ons for our PL purchases were survival-dependent rather than dependent on player performance (eg appearances).

If he got the ball at his feet he was shit. In the air he was a good header of the ball.

Do you know if the £3m addon for C Robinson was achieved or did we avoid it ?

That list is so totally wrong, Hammond's not on it

God Guthrie started with a hat trick at Halifax and went downhill quicker then Franz Klammer, I remember Alan Young joining us and then spent most of time injured this is a FCT he once asked to be substituted as he broke a fingernail.

I haven't a clue to be honest, that list is my judgement overlaid on the various opinions at the time. I'd imagine that we've avoided almost all the player related clauses as he scored once and only started 9 PL games but we probably paid Preston a fee when we stayed up.

When I started following football in 1970, John Tudor (£65,000 in 1968) was our record signing and we didnt break the record until 1975 when Chris Guthrie was signed for £90,000 and after that was Sabella for £160,000 in 1978

When you say some outlets, I think you mean Porktalk, where it suits their argument for our current expenditure to be as high as possible, so they can scoff and say we paid £15 million and Wilder won’t play them.....
