Just watching Derby Vs Bournemouth and Tom Lawrence is running the show alongside very substandard players whilst John Swift of Reading yesterday registered his 8th assist to match his 8 goals so far this season.

Both clubs are in desperate financial situations which makes them realistic signings. The disappointing fact is the board are not willing to finance any incomings because they think either A. The current squad is good enough based on the wage bill and/or B. We must finance incomings by trying to sell white elephant, unsaleable assets.

I believed that we'd evolved evolved from stubborn, incompetent leadership when Prince, Bettis & Co took full reins but it now seems like a case of emperor's new clothes.

Frustrating to see tailor made solutions for our on-field problems just pass us by because we refuse to acknowledge reality.

Leeds and a few others apparently interested in Swift

Thing is, it is a bit difficult being a football club chairman and I have some sympathy.

In Sheffield United terms, giving 110-120m to the manager over two years at a time where even the land of milk and honey is hit by COVID is backing the manager as much as possible for United.

You expect some assets to lose money, some to gain but overall probably expect to be flat at least especially when you're backing someone you perceive to be a very successful manager for the club.

It's more than a challenge when you can offload one player for a 30m deal give or take after an 18m deal purchased him, but then find nobody wants the rest.

The fact we have 62m more or less tied down on 3 players for which literally nobody has any interest in paying anywhere near what we splashed out is a tough pill to swallow.

On one hand the new manager wants some help. He's made a team so far pretty much without the help of these '62m guys' anyway yet you can't get them out the door for love nor money. You need to keep paying their high wages too, none of which helps the new manager.

I'm not defending the Prince especially but this is pretty much the worst case scenario he would have envisaged and this is what he's got.

So he gambles some more or he holds his cards and hopes something happens, either an upturn in form or some unexpected interest. Either way I have some sympathy because in backing a manager into the 100m+ bracket, no Chairman would have expected such an array of unsaleable duds.

Derby are not in a position where they must sell players whilesover there are genuine interested parties in purchasing the club.
If there is no club sale by April then asset sales will have to follow.
John Swift is my grandson’s favourite player, so leave him alone !!!!

I personally think we simply can't afford to add to the wages. Understandable when you've got several absolute wasters on serious money in comparison to most in the league. The fact we're apparently open to offers for brewshite in Jan speaks volumes.

Derby will be willing to sell anybody, there £258mill in dept don't think any future owner will stand that.

We're getting zero value from some huge outlays in Berge (£22m), McBurnie (£20m) & Brewster (£23m). I can understand why he might be hesitant to gamble any more money on it, but the trouble is - if he doesn't - things will only get worse. Time to sell if possible.

Reading's financial situation is that desperate that they signed a striker who last season was likely on twice the wages of any of our strikers literally this week

I'd say that Slav has his hands tied due to failings of the pervious manager. I hope i'm wrong, but we seem to have a bit of a Chansiri mentality at the minute with our players. McBurnie, Brewster, Berge cost £60m between them and are all worth considerably less now than what we paid for them. Are the board holding onto hope that we can get their form back to make them saleable again?

Pigs did this with Abdi, Hooper, Rhodes etc. They ended up rotting until their contracts ran out. Sometimes it's better to cut your losses and get what you can

The figure I posted is what I've been told by a Derby season ticket holder, I should imagine he knows more about it than us.
Given the ITK on here I would think not !
My local contacts indicate a lesser figure, but it often depends on how you calculate debt ! A problem recently encountered by Derby and Reading !!
The main point is that administrators are loath to sell assets, unless under immediate pressure, when there is a potential sale of the whole.

Was hoping to see a complaint about the price of beer, the beer queues and the beer on sale within the ground when I saw the thread title. Highly disappointed in your misleading of folk.

Superb post

Certainly won’t get what we paid for them, but won’t be zero value. Will be interesting what we actually get for em in January.

Self indulgent threat bump
Fair enough too 👏
I'd known about Lawrence by name but these days I don't pay an awful lot of attention to players that don't sport the Red and White.

However he took the game by the scruff of the neck and you have to say, from a neutral perspective, scored two very high quality goals.

I also thought Ebosele looked a very good player.

Strange!

Norwich, Fulham and Watford are a bit like us but they sign some good technical players.

Aston Villa who came up with us to the prem were mocked by us but they go out and find good footballers.

We have
McGoldrick- you gotta love the bloke but he has no composure what so ever.
Fleck and Norwood are not really that good technically. Norwood does have a good pass but when given no time on the ball he is crap.

Our defence only has a couple of good players. Egan ( but without the great O’Connell finds it tough) while Basham likes to get his foot in but can run with the ball.

When you look at Utds team sheet is there anyone that really stands out? No!

Like what was found in the Prem you need 2 or 3 really good players with technical skill and for a striker great composure.
We never got that when you could see similar sized clubs would find them and give them the edge.

We are really not very good unfortunately and surprise surprise we end up with another owner who won’t take a chance.
