Rate the ref out of 10, you could even give reasons why, if you like.

Thought he had a shocker apart from the sending off for Donny we got nothing, really.

Edit: Would anyone have a problem with me creating a "rate the ref" threads for every game?

Like most refs, he was inconsistent. The amount of times Edgar would jump on the top of a Donny player and not get penalised but then we'd get penalised for a complete nothingness foul. It was very frustrating to watch.

No problem here :), I do intend to add it optionally to the player ratings at some stage :)

Good idea this however I don't foresee many ticking the 8, 9 or 10 box very much this season

One of the best refereeing performances I've seen at this level. Two big decisions (red card and che's dive) and both right in my view. Some poor decisions for both teams, but I thought he was fair to both teams. Worst mistake for us was playing 'advantage' where the advantage was it went back to Howard in two passes and took about a minute before the ball was back in their half.

I scored him 8 (relative to the division, he was good for what we can expect in League One)

Good idea.

Though the ref was rubbish he seemed determined to give Donny free kicks on the edge of our box, not sure the one they scored from was a free kick tbh I thought our man got the ball before any contact, I thought the Red card was about right he was high and he was late even if as I think there was no intent you can't show studs like that and expect to get away with it. The decision that shocked me was booking Adams, looked a cert from where I sit, he was past the defender so what reason was there for a dive ? I will watch the replay on TV with interest Those were the big decisions but all game he was inconsistent and fussy.

He did play one very good advantage for us to be fair

A fantastic one which saw Sharp being fouled well into their half and us forced to play back to Howard was a particular highlight in the "advantage" examples today.

Big decisions

free kick for their goal - looked like a free kick to me. It makes me laugh to see players pointing at the ball as if the fact that it moved is evidence that they touched it first. In addition he gave a few others and our centre halfs in particular need to to learn how to stop giving them away.

Sending off - looked a bit harsh to me, I'm sure their manager will be calling it a game changing moment and he'd be right.

Penalty - looked like he bottled it to me

Otherwise I thought he played advantage well (not his fault that we can't take advantage of good situations) and controlled the game well, probably an 7/10 for this level. We certainly can't have too many complaints

only because he lost his whistle round the back of his shirt and whilst it looked like he was playing advantage by what looked like gesturing his hands forward, he was stumbling and put his hands out because he thought he was falling over.

7. Generally ok. Looks like he got the sending off right, but the Adams "dive" wrong.

Given that there's far from a consensus on the Adams decision even though it cost us a penalty,.a sending off, and a chance to play.against 9 men it's not really a.stinker.

I'd be keen to see this every game.

And if there are.any qualified refs it could be informative bc aiui the laws aren't always what we think they are.

Very low scores so far. I wonder if that's just the way it is.

I gave him a 2, as I noticed him a lot and he did seem to make quite a few strange and inconsistent decisions.

The best referees are the ones that you don't notice.

The one thing that I was told when I was growing up, and I was told this by Keith Hackett as I was round at his house one day with this lad who I was mates with when I was growing up, and it was when he was getting pelters from all quarters for not sending off John Fashanu for breaking Gary Mabbutts cheekbone in the early 90s, and the video and photographi PC evidence was damning and it was that he got once chance to see it, and from the angle he saw it from he saw it as no more than an innocuous incident from his viewpoint at that time.

he was bit of a mixed bag, seemed to be falling for the theatrics from Donny players going to ground for quite a long time then he seemed to get wise to it. Will check on Bladesplayer later but I also think we might have got away with a handball in the area by Collins early in the first half that no one seemed to spot.

I'd say go for it - would make interesting reading to look back on at the end of the season

I thought a steady performance from the ref. My initial thought when Che went down was that he had dived. I'd like to see it again though.

I'd like to see it again as my initial thought was he was pushed, but it all happens so fast sometimes.

Is my memory failing me? Did their player get sent off for GBH on Craig Alcock happen in the penalty area? Should this have been a penalty then?

It was a penalty. It was straight on from me where I sit on the kop and Che had beaten the last man and was about to shoot. There was no reason for him to go down he was about to probably score and get the glory as opposed to getting a penalty and Billy taking it

Right in front of me as well in the Kop (though from quite far back) and I thought it was a clear penalty. But your last sentence made me smile as at the time, before the referee buggered up his decision, I was wondering whether Che might grab the ball and claim it for himself.

So if a professional ref "at this level" can get 8 out of 10 for what you describe as some poor decisions for both sides as well as a poor understanding of the advantage rule.... why do our professionally paid players who often make poor decisions "at this level" get 3's 4's and 5's in ratings.....

He was mostly shit. I don't think it should have been a red card, yes his foot was high but he didn't aim it towards Alcock. I didn't think it was a red card at the time and after seeing the replay (only once I admit) I still think it was harsh. I think it should have been a pen for the challenge on Adams, he did seem to make the most of it but from my view in the Kop, there appeared to be sufficient contact for him to go down. When he gave us the advantage too and we ended up with the ball going back to Howard!

Thought he was poor. Gave free kicks for next to nowt all game. Their red was harsh and I'd like to see it again but it looked a pen on Adams when he got booked for a dive.

A 'Rate the Ref' thread is a great idea in my eyes. I gave a 5 but I think I was being generous. That penalty decision was astounding...you'd have to be a real dimwit to dive when through on goal. Love to see it again to see if I'm wrong, but I'd be amazed if I was.

Included the performance of the linesmen in my rating. Recall thinking that the lino's seemed pretty subdued when some iffy decisions were given. Did anyone else think this?

I thought the ref had a good enough game.
Clearly the ref has to make decisions on the spot, based on what he sees. Unfortunately he doesn't have the benefit of seeing replays from 10 different angles.
