He did drop one (again), come for a punch and miss it and clatter the man (again), dive in slow motion for a goal he should have got nearer to (again) and go on a mad run on the left wing and lose the ball.

I don't want to slate the kid, but to make out he had a quiet game is wide of the mark.
 
My main issue with Ramsdale is that the fee we paid makes him the second most expensive English goalkeeper in history. When it comes to ability, Ramsdale isn't even anywhere near the top 5 English goalkeepers at the moment. I know that transfer fees shouldn't be the barometer for ability and I understand he's only young but I think we haven't really got value for money, especially in the short term.

It would be harsh to expect him to save either of their goals today however he seems to have a real issue with diving from a standing start rather than getting his footwork right initially which would give him a far better chance of getting across and down to shots. I also dont think him coming for crosses and causing havoc rather than taking the pressure off is helping our defensive frailties, although thats one part of a much bigger picture it has to be said.

I think he's an okay goalkeeper at Premier League level, he's obviously a downgrade on Henderson and people say we shouldn't make comparisons which is fair but it's hard not to notice the drop in quality.

Put it this way, if we'd been promoted with Ramsdale in goal, I'd want a far more experienced goalkeeper to at the very least be pushing him for a starting place in the Premier League.
 
As an ex-keeper, albeit in a different support. You can try too hard and other think it, and have rushes of blood to head.

Just needs to refocus on basics and trying to do 1-2 things well, then build from there. Composure impresses most.

Bang on with getting the basics right. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights sometimes when he comes for crosses that really should be bread and butter for a goalkeeper, and I'm sure a more confident Ramsdale would collect them no problem.

Goalkeeper really is a confidence position. Slightly different circumstances but it reminds me a bit of when George Long was thrown in a few years ago and he had a run of decent games where he made some brilliant saves when he first came in. He was a victim of his own success in a way because I think we really should have gone and got a more experienced goalkeeper in his debut season. I think the fact he started so well made Danny Wilson keep him in there without really having any decent back up and obviously when he did drop a couple of bollocks, his confidence was shot for a long time. He really should have been pulled out of our first team a long long time before he was and sent out on loan. Anyway, I'm digressing rather a lot and that's not to say that I think we should loan Rammers out, my point basically is that a goalkeeper playing without confidence can give a false reflection of their overall ability.

First and fourth are agreed but other two are not, especially the goals.
He did take over from a keeper who let the ball through his legs, let in several goals at his near post and more recently presented us with a tap in
We are not in the arena for having top keepers any more than we have top strikers or midfield
 
When he goes walkabout down the pitch thats the time for everyone to FUCKING PANIC and we did !!!!!!!!!

Time to give the lad a break?.....Yes a long break on the bench!

He does not radiate confidence maiing making lots of bad decisions over and over can give you another five today
 
The big difference for me is Rammers needs to gain confidence from others around him. Whereas Hendersons ego was that big he quite literally sold confidence to others around him free of charge.

The crux of this is simple, our back five had two seasons with a keeper that took pleasure in taking the piss out people (in and out of training) who misplaced shots at him, banged his chest, revved them up, openly walked around the place like gods goalkeeping gift and constantly harped on about being England's No.1 in no time. He was an ego, influencer and talisman. Henderson was like that mate who’s got the balls to do and say ought, and although at times you winch and think he’s gone too far, part of you feels confident he could actually get away with it, so you laugh and strangely it gives you confidence. That’s what this team is missing. Just happens to be Ramsdale replaced that bloke and is a lot more reserved.

He has a huge confidence issue, which us crippling him a bit. He genuinely looks scared. He reminds me a lot of Long and given they've both come through our youth system it's a bit worrying.

He's nowhere near vocal enough. I want a keeper to be constantly vocal with his defence. I also want a keeper to command his areas. Crosses around the 6 yard box should be dealt with. Ideally caught. He drops so many crosses. Even if he reacts quickly. He also gets blocked in so easily. He needs to take people out to collect crosses.

Sure, our defending this season from set pieces has been parhetic but he needs to take the pressure off his defence. He's far too often rooted to the spot.

His technique diving to the left is odd as well. He kind of goes up then down. Instead of straight down.

He's got to learn to move his feet in anticipation of a shot before diving. He's always a couple of feet short from pulling off a great save, cos he leaves the ground too early. Surely a good GK coach could work with him on this.
