Ramsdale going at the time was good business imho. Wasnt really near ready for the 1st team and we put the money to good use.

For me he has improved immeasurably. And if we have to prepare for life post Hendo (and I think we will have to) we could do a lot worse.
 
Signing Ramsdale would have nothing to do with his past here really. If we need a keeper in the summer he might be one of the best available. How good he was when he was here before, how much of a chance he got and whether it was right to sell him isn't really relevant.

It's like if we tried to signed Calvert-Lewin now. When he left he was a winger who'd had a good season on loan at Northampton but had barely had a chance to trouble the first team before Everton came in for him, now he's an established Premier League centre forward. Him leaving when he did has probably worked out best for everyone.

There'd be no bladey-blade sentimentality over signing them or not as they're hardly recognisable as the same players.
 
IMO, he's nowhere near the calibre of Henderson. He looks much more raw, far less polished.

Henderson is:
1. Amongst the best keepers in the league this season.
2. Pushing to start for England.

Neither of those points apply to Ramsdale.

If we can't sign Henderson, I wonder if the plan is for Verrips to step in.
 
It's a good debate reviewing whether it was beneficial to sell the 4 young players in question.
No doubt we would have a stronger squad if we had them now!realistically would we be in the premiership having not sold them?.
Wilder was desperate to bring in players he could trust to get us on the road back up the leagues, with no money he couldnt have done that.
All the transfers in didnt work but they never do 100% his record is good though.
I'm sure if the funds were available none would have ben sold as it was obvious all 4 had great potential and are living up to that
injuries permitting.
We are in a good place and could even buy one or more back as we will have sell on or buy back clauses on all 4.

I saw that. And we put in an even bigger bid for another Turkish goalkeeper last week, funny name...Ugo Kakka or summat like that.🤔

It seems like we're after a goalie. Which suggests Hendo will be going back to Man U at some point between now and next summer, and may not be coming back. It also suggests that Verrips hasn't shown enough to convince Wilder he's ready to step up to number 1 - and we know that Moore isn't considered a number 1 choice either. So that leaves us with no number 1 and two number 2's - which knowing Wilder, he'll blend them together and play them as a "false 4". 🤔

Our initial news report about him leaving said: "A number of discussions have taken place since the substantial bid was submitted and we felt agreeing to the sale is the best decision for the club in terms of the initial fee and the associated add-ons. Also, it is opportunity for Aaron that we cannot deny him and we wish him well for the future."

So a sell on fee is likely - or a 'discount' for us.

We could have overlapping keepers. That would really headfuck the pundits. 😀

A clue to the answer to your question may have been shown on the 'Dubai flipchart' which highlighted the need for a new GK as the top priority. Whether Verrips has done anything since then to show he's ready to step-up as first choice should Henderson not return remains to be seen. An indication may be seen in tomorrow night's team selection. I assume Verrips will also start again Man Utd - if CW goes with Moore, then I think it would indicate Verrips is not ready or good enough.

Apparently one pundit (not sure which one) said that Sheffield United were slipping at the weekend, not realising we hadn’t played! :D

I heard that. To be fair, it was the presenter summarising the table after the Everton and Spurs games. I.e. Wolves rising, Blades slipping.

Ah ok! We tend to do that though. Not always, but usually, when we don’t play.

Wonder if we’ll be climbing the greasy pole again on Saturday night?
 
If we make it into Europe.

Ramsdale would also be a good option for the home grown player/home grown trained rule for European competition.
In our 25 we need to name 4 players who have trained at the club from 15-21. (HGC)
Apart from Jagielka and sharp. Who else meets the criteria?

And in the squad of 25. 8 players need to have trained in England upto 21. We should be fine with this rule of course.

Didn't he go on loan to Chessie that season. I think that identifies his level at the time
 



It would make sense to bring Ramsdale back as he would be classed as a home grown trained player if we make it into Europe.

Under 21 and trained at the blades for 3 years upto 18 years old.
