Comrades! I would like to propose a toast. Pick up your pints of Jaipur, Pale Rider, Landlord, Riggwelter, Crucible or any other of the divine ambrosia and say a big fat cheers to Danny Wilson. My brothers, let us celebrate the arrival of the beautiful game in Sheffield 2.

Real Ale is Shite !!!!
Drunk by people who wear cord jackets with arm patches. I am not your brother as I am not a card carrying leftie
In fact I am Alien Woodward as I am a right winger.
However I do concede real football is more enjoyable and I will drink real ale if you and Pinchy are buying ;-)

Great day, great enjoyable day at BDTBL. Thank you Danny Wilson. Unbelievably good start to term, making a few people look a bit silly but we'll forget that for now and true theer is a long way to go.

great performance to go with the result. Quinn was a different class along with collins

Booooooooooooooo.

A long way to go. But today was fantastic, and it has to be said - Neill Collins, what a player. A composed part of a settled back 5 which is the best in this league.

Highlight for me was the way that Tonne took his goal, composed & classy. Looks like we might have a player there.

Right, I'm off out to celebrate. UTB!!!!!

Great stuff today. I'd not seen anything to make me smile until now, bit today was really good stuff. The squad's worryingy thin, but providing we arent hit by too many injuries it's looking good.

First game for me today and I was very impressed with the result, but more so with the the attitudes of the players. They've certainly gone about their business in the right way in what has been a very very professional start to the season.

Im not sure about this so called beautiful passing game though, the game was scrappy and the long balls forward from the back were often needless.

The negatives, oddly the strikers were crap, Porter is very clumsy, has no positional sense outside the box. Cresswell looked tired. Mendez Laing is like Gladstone small and looks shite. Not wanting to be negative but have to mention my concerns. Jean Francois could end up being poor too.

Now for the positives. Collins looked solid alongside Maguire. Lowton is classy. I thought Doyle did his job quietly, played a cracking ball for Porter for Lowtons goal, but then Doyles game lifted late on and showed his desire and fitness. McAlistair looks decent, looked busy and was involved a lot. Quinn has really come on, taken responsibility and is a little star, his gobshite attitude has gone and he's enjoying his footy! Good lad. I like the look of tonne from his cameo.

All in all a very good day, I don't think we battered them, but we scored 4 and never looked troubled. Bury, rather than get physical just tried to be cynical. I think we'd look very decent against better opposition, but for me, tonne should be upfront with cress well instead of Porter.

Well done Danny Wilson, it's early days, these are mostly the players that you inherited, but you've got them playing with the right attitude and a swagger.

Poor today, the defence fannied about it with too much instead of hoofing it forwards, midfield should have had it out to the flanks for often.

Needed a lot more hoof, and to play a lot more direct.

Surprised that you think that Jean Francois could end up being poor. He looks like a footballer to me. Wilson seems to have given them all some confidence, and we're playing like we don't expect to lose.

Based on bury, He doesn't look like he'll have a problem in this league and I've only seen him once, but defensively I thought he was backing off in the wrong way. I think a tricky winger will put him on his backside because he seems to leave himself open to be turned easily. I'd like to see him more because he was put under pressure so infrequently. More a comment than a complaint

Ollie, you're an idiot. Why do you want to resurect all this factional crap again. Enjoy the win, clean sheet, league position. Enjoy that we outplayed a supposed 'top team' from front to back. Leave the rest of the bollocks in your head...

Ignoring the strange bit of attention seeking in the OP, I'm wondering what match Swiss watched. Scrappy? Long balls from back to front? Eh?

I thought it was a good blend of on the deck and direct when needed There were a few long balls, and inevitably one or two wasted, but it was the right blend for me.

I think Maguire particularly was trying to hit the "England pass" (60 yard ball drifted forward like ferdinand does) to porter and cresswell when a short pass would've been better.

In the first half he hit far more than he did in the second half. But I think that was more due to the players in front of him trying to get used to how they should play. Our movement off the ball wasn't as good in the first 20 minutes, but that improved as the game went on.

No need for personal insults (Dunc). I was merley encouraging people to celebrate the arrival of proper football coming to Bramall Lane! What better way than to drink some nice, creamy, hoppy real ale?!

When I finally managed to sit down last night (buzzing one might say) I was only interupted from my Knut Hamsun novel by viewing some more Norweigen geniality, although in a very different form.

A nice smoky malt whisky? Quality, not quantity, after all. Put down the Norwegian Jilly Cooper and the shandy, and get yourself a nice single malt. And stop visiting those blonde birds in the Palais De Wank. They're not Scandinavian temptresses, they're Thai ladyboys with wigs on.:D

I watched the same game as Swiss. I think he was correct in his summing-up. We played well when we got in front and had a bit of confidence. I thought that we won without really trying and I can't wait to see us really set about teams from the off and hammer someone convincingly. Re LJF, he got pulled out of position too many times. I noticed that Bury didn't try to expose Lowton and always came down our left side. having said that, I like him and I think that he can only get better. Can't argue with 4-0 though; well happy with that.

It's amazing how peoples attitudes have changed towards DW (in general not specifically on this board). Credit where it's due and though it's still early days; anyone who can't raise their glass to Danny and the boys for what they've done so far lacks the most basic of rational thought skills.

...I'm loving the fact that Cricketers has Pale Rider on. It's all about the real ale!

The key difference between this season and last season, is that we have a team who is playing with confidence, a team who is not afraid to play the ball on the deck, a team who are not nervous and not afraid to make mistakes.

One key observation for me was during the first half when during a passage of play, United strung 3 or 4 passes at the back, before Neil Collins attempted threading a ball through the middle of the mark which went straight to a Bury player. A groan went round the Lane, but it was more of a disappointed groan rather the supporters lambasting him for making a mistake. Then a couple of minutes later he tried and attempted to play the same ball, and it came off perfectly.

I can't wait to see us really set about teams from the off and hammer someone convincingly.

So you're complaining that it wasn't convincing enough? That we left it 'til the 43rd minute to score?

If that's what we have to worry about then it's happy days indeed.

Point taken. As I said, you can't argue with the scoreline. I just feel that we start slowly and seem to give the opposition a few chances before we get going. I do think that we have too much qualty on the field based on the opposition played so far though. I always thought that if we kept most of the sqaud together that got relegated, we ought to get back up. These are championship quality players, not league one. Long may it continue.

It was certainly convincing, perhaps more from the attitude than the actual rout that it perhaps should've been (4-0 is a very good scoreline, but a little more quality would've seen a higher score)

At times it felt like watching a friendly match.

It's all very impressive.

twas like watching realmadrid second half .the only thing that could have made it better would have been a good pint of fosters lager out of a tinny.

I've seen us score at least once this season from that very pass. Every now and then, when the oppo are expecting a tap across the back, its the right pass for the situation.

Maguire is growing with every game. A lot more simple stuff done better, occasional row z'er when it was needed and less attacking balls/players he has no chance of winning.
