Only watched him at rotherham pre season friendly and seemed a bit lost

This race or hunt for Matondo is pretty slow going.

He clearly has been a decent winger. Seen some footage and glimpses of his pace and trickery.
But there is a reason it hasn't worked for him at Brann and that championship clubs are being a bit reluctant to take him on.

It’s a bit strange we picked a 12 month deal for Ayew over this option. Maybe his wage ask is a bit much? Some ongoing medical issue (which seems to be the case with Ito)?

But, we were the only club in the championship who didn't pay a single fee for a player this summer.

We were the only club in the championship who didn't sign a single new player on a contract that extended beyond the end of this season. Looking at the list of players signing on frees, it was only the well over 30 year olds that signed on 12 month deals, the only exception being Hamza.

Of our current contracted players, nobody has a deal running beyond Summer 2029. The only other club in the championship in the same position are Blackburn Rovers. All other clubs have some players signed up beyond that.

I think the club has been prepared to offer decent wages, but policy may have also been not to commit on new expenditure beyond the current season.

Matondo would surely want the security of a longer contract, but as a club are we willing to do that ?

Dennis Cirkin was a player whose name came up in the rumour mill. As a left back, he wasn't really what we wanted, but QPR have signed him on a free and with a contract running until 2031. I don't think that kind of free signing was available to Wilder this Summer
