>So its like the best pairing is Monty and McDonald
hmm how about last year then.. played 46 lost 46?? :D
i'd have a go with lowton and williamson/macdonald.. lowton isn't a fullback but he can tackle enough and has a great motor.. he's also great at breaking into the box

Either Montgomery or Doyle or both has played in every game this season, so we really don't have a standard of comparism when neither of them plays :-)

But here's the stats on the various midfield combos this season:

Monty/Doyle P5 W3 D1 L1 pts 10
Monty/McDonald P7 W4 D3 L0 pts 15
Doyle/McAllister P3 W2 D1 L0 pts 7
Doyle/Williamson P1 L1 pts 0
Doyle/McDonald P3 W1 D0 L2 pts 3

So its like the best pairing is Monty and McDonald, with Doyle and McDonald the worse (ignoring the one off Doyle/Williamson combo)

In other words, with Monty in the team we've averaged 2.1 points a game (automatic promotion form)
Without him, we've averaged 1.4 points a game (mid-table form)

Say it aint so.... What will the Monty Knockers make of that?
Must be all the others try harder when he is in the team.

we'd be averaging 3 points per game if he wasn't in the team at all.. just kidding.. i was interested that's all:)

I struggle to see what people think Cresswell is doing well at the moment. Led the line well? Thought he lost almost every challenge and the Torquay defenders dealt with him easily. His efforts always seems to be blocked, and one goal in his last 16 matches just isn't weighed up by some decent closing down. Would Erik Tønne have escaped criticism if he was played 16 times up front and only scored once? No, people would have said he's not up to it. But as Cressy had a good start to the season and played well a couple of years ago he is excused. We need to continuously evaluate players, even the "big names", and if they are not contributing enough we should be giving someone else a chance.

I agree with you that Evans also struggled first half, though he improved immensely after the break.

I think the vast majority of fans are in agreement that Cresswell offers us very little at the moment. Successive managers seem to pick him regularly though and also seem very reluctant to sub him when he starts.

Perhaps he has the same ransom note as Monty?

I hate to say it but i can't stand Quinn, he thinks he's better than he is, trys flicks instead of playing things easy, cant head or tackle and his passing is only average, he's a liability position wise, he thinks he can con people into liking him with the pulling of his shirt after a goal, he's big headed, blames all around him instead of looking in the mirror. I truely hope that Janruary see's the back of this little trumped up waste of space

>I hate to say it but i can't stand Quinn
badge kisser.. gone in a second if he gets the chance

Everyone was saying the same things about Monty last year. It seems there's always one player who the fans decide to pick on, and at the moment it's Quinn.

I thought it was Williams (previously Simmo)

It's now gone full circle I think.
Quinn was superb for the 2 months of the season and looked a cut above the rest. His average performances may be due to him carrying a minor injury or (more likely) he's had his head turned by a potential move. For all his flaws his commitment can never be faulted.

Come on guys, saying you 'can't stand him' or that you 'hate him' is a little harsh. He went through a great spell at the start of the season, he's going through a bad one now. I don't think reading this thread is going to do his confidence (or attitude towards fans) much good either.

Steady on now. Wouldn't want some considered, grown up attitudes to spoil an opportunity to lay into one of our own players.

Have the opposition merely wised up to him? Doesn't appear to be getting the kind of space he was at the beginning of the season. That said we still don't really have anyone else to do the creative side when they are doubling up on him, we tend to be very predictable and look for Quinny with too many of our attacks.

I noticed that his performances seem to have gone downhill since the 'Ginger Messi' report in the paper. He might have believed his own hype, too. I think he's a good player but he makes some awful decisions at times.

I'll never criticise his effort though, he does put everything into it.

Moving on to Cresswell, his commitment is absolutely fantastic. He works so hard and chases everything, but for me doesn't effect the game enough because he's quite poor technically. Anybody can put the effort in but if your first touch is poor and you don't win a great deal in the air then you're just not up to it unfortunately.

last year?? they still are:p

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted — nevermore!

Is it Wichitaw Lineman?

Didn't realise it was Friday already.

'I am the Linesman for notts County' ,I once heard a bloke sing. I also remember a bird at a Karaoke asking if they'd got 'Like a right strong cowboy'

But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing farther then he uttered — not a feather then he fluttered —
Till I scarcely more than muttered "Other friends have flown before —
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before."
Then the bird said "Nevermore."

Edgar Allen Poe contemplates Monty's departure in January.

Raul cleverly parodies my years of continuing torment at his hands.

The Notts County line is a Half Man Half Biscuit line.

Which song is that?

I can't remember, I'll find out for you when I get back from the match!

On a related note, I saw the great Jimmy Webb at the City hall earlier this year, he was absolutely marvelous.

Haven't you seen his step-over tekkers? He could be classed as technically gifted! ;)
