Quickest Goals For/Against Home/Away?

Hodgey recalls in 1963-4 Ron Simpson scoring at Burnley after 8 seconds. (Not sure how these things were timed, but we'll go with it.)

This got me thinking about very early goals (under a minute, under 30s even) for against, home or away. What are the records and are there any recent notable examples? (I can't recall any off the top of my head in my off and on 40 years of Bladeswatching.)
 



Richard Cresswell got one in the first minute at home to Blackpool in 2010. Further back John Flood scored after about 15 seconds at home to Wimbledon in 1980 (2-1), and Steve Neville scored after 35 seconds v Hereford on the opening day of the 81/2 season in the 4th division (2-2). Whether it's during the match or season, we have generally been quite slow off the mark

Ronnie Simpson still holds the record. I remember seeing Stewart Scullion scoring after 21 seconds at Newcastle on Boxing Day 1971
 
Not the quickest individual goal against, but two examples of three quick [first twenty mins] goals conceded.

Stoke City 0-3 : 04/12/2007 [02/07/19 mins]

Swindon Town 5-5 : 11/05/2015 [04/10/18 mins]

I'm sure we also scored four in quick succession at home to Torquay United (81/82), went in 4-0 at half time.
That'll be one for the memory men to confirm.

I was there at that match. Ronnie Simpson scored at 7 seconds (on my watch :-)) and again at 7 minutes. My uncle was still having a complimentary drink in the hospitality lounge,thanks to Hodgy, he missed both goals after travelling for over 3 hours to get there and then we watched United defend for the rest of the game for a 2-1 win. The same Uncle left a match against Leeds at the lane 5 minutes before time and missed the goal that saw us win 1-0. I have never missed kick off or the final whistle since.

Spot on! 4 in the last 6 minutes of the half at the bramall lane end. John Matthews, Colin Morris, King Keith and Mike Trusson. Pity anyone who went for a half time pie early doors

I often think about having a couple of quid on an 'in-play' bet when that happens B56.
It seems that quite often when a team scores in the first minute, it ends up 1-0.

More like 5 seconds to me. We kicked off the 2nd half, passed straight to Roger Nilsen at left back, he decided to pass back to Alan Kelly (both always had a terrible misunderstanding) but Marco Gabbiadini was quick enough to slot the back pass into the net

Tony Philliskirk v Rotherham, Boxing Day 1983 - 23 seconds

In terms of quick multiple goals United were 4-0 up on Newcastle after 8 minutes in a New Years Day game in the 1950s. We won 6-2
 
Think Philiskirk knocked one in within two minutes at Fratton Park on a disgustingly rain-sodden Monday night (Feb 1987) after the game being postponed from the Saturday in a FA Cup 4th Round tie. I waited for my United supporting buddy to go join the thirty or so Bladesfans in the open Milton End, but he failed to show, but a couple of Marines I knew happened by and invited me to join them in the old Fratton End. We broke forward, Philiskirk connected at the edge of the box and it rolled across the sanded 6 yard box inside the post. I fucking leapt for joy in my dad's Sheffield Works Department bright yellow raincoat. Big mistake. The Mushers were in a good mood so I shut the fuck up dead quick. Pompey won 2-1, fat Micky Quinn beating Trace to a ball that ended up aquaplaning in a massive puddle in the middle of the pitch.

The Pompey fans were singing "you'll get the sack again ... Ba-ssett ... Ba-ssett!" It was his first game in charge of United.

United also scored within 2 minutes when we smashed Arsenhole 5-0 at the Lane in the seventies. Missed that one as my sisters were talking to their mates on the steps leading up to the kop.

Think that's what we were hoping for today, look how that turned out! Spineless second rate two hats and Adkin's must have been taking advice from Clough on his subs. And if he says 'we thought we could push on and win it' one more time when we are clearly hanging on I'll throw the radio out the winnda

I think I may have gone to the Burnley match, I remember him scoring 2 there, he found himself clear on the left wing & hammered the ball into the net, then later in the game he found himself in exactly the same position, unmarked & scored again.

Tracey came to us later in the summer. Andy Leaning was in goal for that match

New Years Day 1955. My grandad John Spencer scored 2 of the 6.

My dad and his mate were 10 minutes late for the match, as soon as my dad got into the crowd, he asked for the score, the reply was "4-0 to United", my dad told him to "get lost" so he asked a different spectator and the reply was still "4-0 to United". Took my dad quite a few minutes before realising that he and his mate had missed 4 goals.

I was told that your grandad showed a lot of promise in the mid 1950s but sadly had to quit football when still very young due to injuries

My Dad and Grandad were also late. They ran from the tram. My Dad was faster and arrived when it was 1-0. My Grandad got there about 3 minutes later - it was 3-0...

His ankles. Probably a routine operation if he were a player in this day and age!
