Utter, utter garbage. Compete waste of a tenner.

Jose Baxter: you're a fucking idiot.

That is all.

Wasn't that bad , seen much worst . What i keep learning is we have a big squad , but a weak squad , which seems to get worst not better , regarding fringe players. Certain players just do not improve.

UTB

Ah well.

I didn't give a shit about the last round never mind this.

Baxter is an idiot though.

Just got back. Think Balham Blade is a bit harsh. The 3-0 scoreline greatly flattered them – there was nothing in it till the penalty, which I'd like to see again as it looked soft at the time. Second goal was a re-run of Dack's goal for Gillingham. Third took an unfortunate deflection off what looked like an offside player – again, would like to see a replay. No complaints with the red cards. We mostly played some tidy stuff till the game got away from us, created some opportunities with some patient play. Overall mediocre.

Plus points:
- I thought JWallace built on his recent cameos very well, and bossed the midfield at times
- Long has a good portion of his confidence back
- Alcock put in a surprisingly good performance
- McGahey/KWallace looked solid enough in the middle

Negatives
- KWallace ruined what had been a solid enough game with a pointless red card
- Baxter's reckless lunge
- Forward line static too often
- Full backs left exposed by midfield too often

Long 7/10 – no chance with the goals, faultless handling, poor kicking. Encouraged by him claiming crosses, rolling out to full-backs, and dealing with a couple of hospital pass-backs. Made some comfortable saves and one very good tip over from a point-blank header.

Alcock 7.5/10 – our attacking outlet second half, which highlighted our limitations at times. For the most part I thought he read everything well, was solid, only looked exposed when he was having to cover two.

McGahey 7/10 – pleasantly surprised. If Collins isn't back, and assuming Adkins isn't planning to move Basham back, I'd play McGahey with Edgar against Swindon and move McEveley to left-back because...

KWallace 6/10 – ...our likely left-back at the weekend is now suspended. Till then, he'd looked decent. He perhaps thought there was a player behind him and it would be a yellow card. Either way, at that stage of the game it was completely needless.

McFadzean 6/10 – better than the Gillingham game, lost his man a few times, slightly wasteful on the ball 2nd half. Linked up well with Woolfood first half.

Woolford 6.5/10 – was central to most of our decent play first half, seemed to disappear second half.

JWallace 7/10 – thought he did well, always showed for the ball, made things happen, looked confident and fit. Hope he starts Saturday in place of the suspended Baxter.

Reed 5/10 – poor I thought, never really got into the game, too often muscled off the ball.

De Girolamo 5/10 – not really sure what the fuss is about...

Higdon 5/10 – anonymous, wasted the few headers he got in front of goal.

McNulty 6/10 – couple of chances that were tame by his standards.

Subs:
Dimaio – not really noticeable.
Baxter – what the hell was he thinking?!!

Adkins 6/10 – understand the rotation, but too much changed in my opinion.

Really wasn't that bad! The defence including George Long looked really solid. Three nil was incredibly harsh on them. Pen looked soft, second goal was what £11M gets you and the third looked very offside and was fortunate.
Shame about the sendings off, other than that nothing to be too worried about.

Tend to agree with most of that.
I noticed a couple of Reed's first touches didn't help him and made it easier to push him off the ball. He needs to work on that.
As you say, Long and McGahey were plus points.

I thought Fulham were poor. Not sure how many were first team regulars but some of ours were playing their first games of the season. You'd have expected them to have done more but we more or less matched them first half. I thought they were a little sharper in the second but still not that dominant. We never looked like scoring though.

The goals we let in (one a deliberately conceded penalty as we didn't look like scoring so had to break the deadlock somehow?) get us out of the League Cup.

The red cards might affect the League. Byrne will score 7 in a 12-0 defeat, apparently this is inevitable.

After that Baxter who Adkins has almost designed his team around is out for another two games.

Maybe the "We don't really want to win this competition" message got lost on two of the more mentally challenged members of the squad.

Oh wed love to win it , but we arent going to with this squad , nor is any other non prem team the big clubs need it to justify spending

It might just be Newcastles year to win something

wasnt a total waste , some players got some game time and extra fitness training filling in the 2 gaps left

I pretty much agree with Loughboro Blade, but at the end of the day if you put a second team out against opponents from a higher league you start on the back foot. In the first half I thought it was even stevens, in the second half Fulham stepped up a gear and we couldn't match them. Fair enough, nothing to gripe too much about in the context of this game / competition. But I left with five minutes to go - had to catch a train - on the basis we weren't going to get three goals back in five minutes, but two red cards is entirely pointless at that stage of the game and although KW's seems to have been a professional foul, JB's looks like sheer stupidity. What was the point? Obviously it is going to affect us detrimentally in the league.

But that's not my point

Gillingham 0-4, played crap, I went
Morecambe 1-0, I didn't go
Chesterfield 2-0, I didn't go
Peterborough 3-1, I didn't go
Fulham 0-3 and two red cards, I went.

I think you can see a pattern here.

So my apologies, clearly it is all my fault. Could it be worse? Unfortunately, yes - in a flush of enthuisiasm I bought a ticket for Swindon yesterday. 'Nuff said - I think you can all stay away to avoid another humiliating disaster, but I now know better, and I won't do it again.

Btw, nice to meet some of the London Blades sitting alongside this Jonah...

It is grimly amusing I suppose that the only two probable Saturday starters were the ones to get themselves sent off.

Oh well, now we might see if we really will spend the Murphy money.

Thought DDG was better than a 5, he has got a good first touch and used the ball pretty well, can't see the point of paying Higdon a wage, I think he's quite a clever player and sees openings and possibilities quite well but the trouble is he either isn't quick/mobile enough to implement/capitalise on them or he messes it up. Had a fantastic opportunity in the second half to lay a header off for the onrushing McNulty? and he just fluffed it. Needs moving on.

Yes, I'm just sorry you had to put up with my friends and their boorish behaviour.

Would you start Alcock this Saturday and put Freeman at LB (he can play there too)

I am weary about moving around too many. Do that and we have one/two players out of position. Play McGahey instead and we have no players out of position. But both options preferable to McFadzean at LB.

My mate is in the same position. In fact I reckon there will be a number of Blades in London and its environs who have only been to two matches this season - Gillingham and Fulham.

Out yourselves now so we can ban you for the rest of the season forthwith!

I'm a DDG fan Paulus and you obviously saw him at the match, but listening on the radio for the first 20 minutes, I genuinely thought they had made a mistake when they said Diego was in the starting line up as I never heard his name mentioned. This was another opportunity for him to push for at least a place on the bench, that he appears to have blown. Hate to see him loaned out again, but it would seem to be the only way for him at the moment, Crewe would seem a good bet as they have a good record in developing young players.

Revolution Snr is in the opposite position. He missed Gillingham and last night and has seen all the other games.

For the record, he is not going to Swindon.

He was completely out of the game playing right midfield but when he moved to the top of the diamond he got a lot more involved. Still not sure he's ready for a run in the first team but I'd play him away at Hartlepool next week to give him another chance.

Well looking at the good luck and bad luck oments being reported on this thread, I think we all need to lump on a Swindon win at the weekend.

No in the first few minutes he didn't see much of the ball but after we swapped to the diamond he became our most likely source of threat.
