Question for any Blades in Manchester?

I'm taking my car to the England game on Sunday and was thinking of parking up at one of the Tram stops on the Manchester - Ashton-under-Lyne line (obviously a tram stop on the east side of the Etihad). Looking on their tram website it's not that clear if trams run after 5.30pm on that line - would any Blades who live or work in Manchester be able to confirm if there would be trams to Ashton after the end of the game (about 7pm)? Also, any advise on what are the better areas/tram stops to park up near on that line? I was thinking either Droylesden or Audenshaw?

Last tram from Etihad is 2243 on a Sunday but they are always full and I never leave it till the last one. Not sure if it suits but you could consider train from Staleybridge.
 
If you wanna see your car again don't park in droylsden.

I'm going to England game but live nearer to wigan so just getting a train to Manc. It's only about 15 mins on train and about four quid.
 
Thanks for the advise chaps. Was hoping to park up somewhere on the 'Sheffield' side of the Etihead (avoiding Droylesden by the sounds of it!) rather than Manc city centre, if it all possible, with the hope of getting a head start for journey back to Sheff.

Well your best bet is ashton then. Ashton is alright!
According to the metrolink timetable the last one is after 10pm so you have plenty of time to get a tram after. Isn't the kickoff in the afternoon!?
 
Will be worse on a england night, as everyone leaves at the same time
 
Train from Staleybridge is a good shout...over Woodhead,park up,a couple of jars of decent ale at the pub on the Station,then on to the Etihad.

The best way ever to get to Old Trafford is on the barge from a great little pub in Castlefield. The barge runs on match days and pulls up right underneath the stadium and leaves 15 minutes after the final whistle so you miss all the traffic. And it has a bar.
 
Been a couple of times to City (won tickets on twitter for Barca etc ) and parked at the Velodrome for £5, quick jog back to the car and follow the other cars through the estate and your soon on your way, I was back in Sheffield in around an hour

Drive to Glossop, park up for free, few jars in one of the many real ale pubs, train to Ashburys (£5 return, 20 min), 10 min walk to stadium.

Zero traffic, zero stress.

Good shout. Although ashburys station is a desolate place fit only for pigeons, foxes and drunks. I guess it might be different on a match day - more drunks, less pigeons - foxes only when Leicester are playing.

Yeah on match days (when City are playing anyway) its a popular station, but not too busy.

There are a lot of desolate places only fit for pigeons and such on that particular line though.

Not far off actually!

The other week 2 druggies with knifes robbed the place, one tried jumping over the counter - but slipped on a milkshake and broke his ankle.

The other nicked £17.50 out of the till and snatched a bag of what he thought was food, however it turned out to be a bag of plastic forks.

The guy that got away was nicked when he tried robbing the chinese 100 yards up the road straight after.
 
So just had a bit of a look. We are on about going for a day out. you can get a one day pass for bus and tram for £6.70. If we travel over by car it would seem Stockport has a park and ride car park. would that be a good option or anywhere else?
 
Come and park in Sale - lovely and safe. Just off the M60 for a quick getaway. 5 mins to the ground on the tram. Head for the side roads near the Bridge pub on Dane Road. The pub is fantastic and it's on the bridge of a tram stop - the trams run until 1am.

You'll be on the motorway back to Sheffield after the game in no time.

Just realised that Sunday is the Manchester 10k so the centre will be a nightmare. Even though the run is earlier in the day there is usually stuff on iin the afternoon, Stay home and atch it on the box.
 
You can park at mine if you like next station along from glossop train takes about 20 mins to ashburys £4:30 return city ground is about 15 mins from the station - avoid Manchester due to the run it will be a mare in and out
 
There are 3 park & ride carparks on the Rochdale-Ashton line. The nearest one to the M60 is Hollinwood (exit J22). The other 2 are both at the other side of Oldham. The Hollinwood stop is about 1 minute away from the Motorway

The tram stops at Etihad Campus which is the nearest stop to the ground.

The other 2 Park & Rides are Mumps & Derker but I would go for Hollinwood
 



Cheers for all the advice chaps. Went for the park up at Glossop and train it to Ashburys, worked a treat and finished with a very steady scenic trip home on the Snake Pass.
