only a guess mind, probably under the public order health and safety act...or sommat like that...

In that case if everyone wears hard hats and hi viz jackets they can't shut the boozers
just a thought...:)

(ps..plus the cops would not be able to tell if you were a football fan or construction worker)

Sat morning stir headlines....

"Last night 10,000 boozy construction workers rioted on london road...."

a police spokesman said,
"we had to open the pubs as they wern't footie fans, I don't know what happened, we were expecting bill swilling baby and granny bashing louts not construction workers, one of our officers went to move a safety barrier and they all went ape shit shouting thats not your job, when one of my officers picked a brick up off the road all hell broke loose...he got wacked with a spirit level, another was attacked with a set square..."

Hope that helps....:D
You don't work in construction do You!

If this is true and its still questionable that they could do this then would you forward this to your contact at the FSF? There is supposed to be a meeting taking place between the FSF, SYP and some independent Blades fans group before the next Steel City Derby. It seems to be a lip service exercise as no-one from SWFC seems to have been invited to explain their failings last time out. Not sure if pigs have independent fans group as they're massive.

Perhaps the FSF could ask SYP if their sole strategy in policing football matches in Sheffield is based on the comments from their Chief Inspector on local radio in August when he stated that disorder at football matches is caused by drinking. Forcing Blades out of town centre pubs onto overcrowded trams over 1 hour before kick off last time round seems to confirm this.

SYP need to explain why no other police force in the UK adopts the same tactics. More time will be spent closing down pubs than dealing with potential disorder. Fans will stay out of town until the last minute drinking in their locals resulting in everyone turning up at the last minute with all the potential problems that will cause.

Mind boggling incompetence seem to go cap in hand with SYP, yet no-one seems to hold them to account. Maybe the local hack who posts on here can investigate whether this is true or not as it needs highlighting and questioning in advance of any meetings with the SYP.

Will do Addison. Think the lady from FSF has an account on here but will make sure she sees it. Good shout.

I’ve been wracking my brains trying to think what could go wrong with this. Coming up blank so far.

Its almost as if they want trouble. Closing the pubs near the Lane will mean far more Blades fans in town, drinking on the same streets and in the same boozers as their fans.

Because hooliganism is far worse today than it was then.... isn't it?

It does seem that the main people making trouble and causing problems are SYP again.
It's like watching an episode of Operation Good Guys...infact they would be more competent.
I'm convinced they want something to kick off to justify themselves and their joke tactics.

Of course they want something to kick off, in fact they would be very upset if it didn't. Maybe it's something to do with overtime, maybe it's to justify the amount of money they get to keep our streets safe.

And maybe they're still clutching at straws trying to stitch us up so they can demonstrate that Hillsbrough wasn't their fault.

Sent on, e-mails exchanged and their meeting with SYPD after issues back in Sept is happening today - with these questions added. Will report back once I have an update. Cheers.

Nice one Godric, just in time. Seems the rumour may have some credence if they are meeting to-day. It doesn't take a genius to work out that if they had closed the 3/4 pubs on Swillsbro' corner early then the problems with the trams wouldn't have happened. Shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

I doubt there will be any acceptance that they got it badly wrong, only that the new solution is to totally disrupt the drinking habits of the well behaved majority.

At Wembley the pubs in the locality usually have last orders 1 hour before the start of a big game. Thats to get everyone in the ground and to avoid congestion. Here SYP seem intent on stopping people drinking at any cost refusing to accept that those that intend to cause trouble will find it with or without drink.

Can’t understand it, they’re only bringing the same number of fans as every other away side, no pubs shut when Hull or Wulfs came, what’s the problem ?

Operation Good Guys, loved that programme, why is it never repeated, seems to have disappeared for ever ?

“ Daddy’s here, with the bacon”

Yeah,it should be repeated...can't find much on you tube either..SYP are probably using the re runs for training purposes.

I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. Instead of paying 3 quid a pint for pissy Carling in a pub, Osmans and Steers for Beers will be doing a roaring trade at 4 cans of Stella for a fiver. What could possibly go wrong?

Hopefully you've had time to reflect on that comment and can now see it for the daft idea it is.
I’ve had time to reflect and nope. I still think the ridiculous police force in our county need to be shown they will not push us around anymore. It’s time to treat us like humans or expect a monumental backlash come the 12th of January.

All we are asking for us to have a drink in our pubs as opposed to out on the street. It’s not much to ask. Hopefully over the coming 2 months, they will take the time to reflect and can see their plans for the daft idea that it is.

But that's how the cops get away with it. Most people don't want to be slung into the back of a meat wagon followed by a hefty fine. That smug copper on Middlewood Road in one of the pig game videos let it slip by quoting 'Section 3 of the Criminal...Act'. In other words, look at a copper the wrong way and you can get nicked.

Now ask the cops to go onto a gyppo site...

I wouldn't get too worked up about it, Daily Express suggests it will be postponed anyway due to worst snow to hit UK in six thousand years.

I'm not sure what I am more worried about. The fact that we might get some snow, in January, in England or the fact that you have admitted on a football forum that you actually read the Daily Express ;)

To be fair, its their go to front page when they're running short of Diana conspiracies!
