This coming 2023/24 season, we will enter the 4th style of Premier League kit fonts.

Randomly, as we enter our 6th Premier League season, United will have played a game using every different font.

Used by United against Wigan on the last day when we opted to wear the following seasons shirt... notice Unsworth still has the old style numbers:

A video behind the squad numbers and release of this new typeface can be found below. Mad how much thought has to go into it all. And the in stadium testing part was interesting.
I guess this is why we're still allowed stripes on the back in the PL

I don't know why I find it so funny that we're looking at Premier League fonts

Having stripes on the back of the shirt is pretty much my primary reason for wanting to remain in the top flight. I detest block colour on the back of the shirt.

Although it's funny to watch everybody in that video wanking themselves off over a pretty mundane redesign. Settle down boys, it's just fonts and numbers. It's hardly as if you've just painted the fucking Sistine Chapel now is it.

Really interesting that mate!

I'm not surprised how much effort and research goes into this, it's all part of the design process.

Most typefaces are created with high levels of detail and go through some form of testing depending on it's intended purpose.

I love shit like this. And I love that you love shit like this, because you then share shit like this, which gives me shit to read up on. Lovely shit.

Keep an eye out for tomorrows thread where we look at the most popular pitch design from every PL season.*

*I think I'd actually enjoy that..

Now this is the kinda football trivia I can buy into. Good effort!

Obviously I did, or I wouldn't have posted it, but I found the video very interesting.

Difficult to design an actual font. Then everybody just downloads it for free. Mugs game

It’s too much like my work. Been in too many meetings like this.

What’s wrong with comic sans anyway?

Got my first design job in 1992, and we'd get given free discs of software, images and fonts from the tech guys who popped in - copied a few hundred fonts, one of them was called 'fingers bold' never ever used it, but it's still on my mac today 30 years later!

Remember those days well, started late 80s and used to get copy set a few years before we got the 1st Mac in the agency.

Yeah, they'd always pop on with a few 'cracked' Aldus Freehand apps on a floppy disc! Trying to think back, think it was 'Highlander' and 'Tri-Mac' up in Leeds we used to use (or something like those names!)
