Sussex ideallyAlthough we can't dictate unless we have a shoes off protest where do we want our pre-season tour to be this year?
I have liked the Portugal trips, Cyprus would be quite good too or are we fancying a home isles tour of Scotland and Cumbria?
We are the biggest club in Europe that have never qualified for a European competition. Our fans would love to see us play in a proper friendly with a decent, well-supported European team. But we always seem to just go to a training camp in Portugual that is swelteringly hot and have a kick about against local opposition.
I'm sure that there are plenty of big city clubs in Europe that would give us a game, and our fans would travel in numbers and spend money. I'd love to see a friendly in a proper stadium with a decent crowd. St Pauli, Bochum, Strasbourg, Valencia, AGF Aarhus, Bilbao, wherever. I'd go for sure. Really can't be arsed with low-key friendlies in Portugal though.
Well I dunno, but I do know the squad isn't in Porto Santo at this current moment in timeDo we know the dates for Portugal?
I’m in Portugal end of June, is that too early? Can’t remember when we’ve done it before.
This and the fact the club only bothers tell fans about the plans about 2 weeks before, make it difficult for most people to go.We are the biggest club in Europe that have never qualified for a European competition. Real Betis not big enough for you , they only average 50,000 for their home crowdsWe are the biggest club in Europe that have never qualified for a European competition. Not quite, it was the Star doing their usual of making the most out of a passing comment.Didn't I see we have been invited to AuS
Really? Now if we were a proper big club like Wrexham we'd be going to the US to play Man Utd, Chelsea and LA Galaxy !!Didn't I see we have been invited to AuS
Played that one at a random ground didn't we?Real Betis not big enough for you , they only average 50,000 for their home crowds![]()
Yes, a random ground used in the EUROs!!! I've seen Portugal v England at it. I mean, Real Betis in an international stadium near a major holiday destination. What more do people want?Played that one at a random ground didn't we?
A bit of notice?Yes, a random ground used in the EUROs!!! I've seen Portugal v England at it. I mean, Real Betis in an international stadium near a major holiday destination. What more do people want?
The Carrier Bag Firm had to make a late run to Faro anyway. They had to pick up & deliver the present we gave Real BetisA bit of notice?
You must admit it would have been far better at their stadium in Seville with thousands of home fans making a noise. Given enough notice plenty of Blades would make such a journey too.Yes, a random ground used in the EUROs!!! I've seen Portugal v England at it. Weren't the slav pre season days coming out of covid though? You must admit it would have been far better at their stadium in Seville with thousands of home fans making a noise. Given enough notice plenty of Blades would make such a journey too.
A couple of years ago under Slav we went to Valencia pre-season and played a Valencia X1 behind closed doors at their training ground. That could have been played at one of the city's smaller stadiums with paying fans - would have been a great little trip.
To be honest I had forgotten about the game v Reims. Very short notice wasn't it?
Yep, I think (some) fans were allowed back in stadiums thoughWeren't the slav pre season days coming out of covid though?
Said it elsewhere Istanbul 3 friendlies against decent opposition (and the chance for dodgy replica kitsWe are the biggest club in Europe that have never qualified for a European competition. Fucking wankworthy. The Mighty Bergamo Blades.Atalanta in Atalanta
God no, one of the last times United were there pre-season (74/75 ish) they stayed in the same Hotel as Stoke, United sent a team selection to play a game in Israel, when they returned from the match Geoff Sammons had been sold to Stoke..Cyprus
Took me a week to sober up , but I enjoyed it !!Yes, a random ground used in the EUROs!!! I've seen Portugal v England at it. I mean, Real Betis in an international stadium near a major holiday destination. What more do people want?
As the Premier League kicks off a week later than our previous season starts I’m expecting game around 19/20 July in the Lisbon area. Hopefully a day or two later to suit me personally to avoid Ashes OT clash !
