Contrast the two from a preparation and marketing perspective.

Both clubs have USA owners. Both will be competing in the Championship next season. The similarity stops there.

One club with infrastructure employing professional marketing. One employing the Dog and Duck equivalent.

One club playing against EPL quality in Man U liverpool Leeds and Sunderland with trip to Poland and USA Tour. One club with game in Germany against Bundesliga 2 opposition and a make do trip across Yorkshire against lower league teams.

We are light years behind Wrexham off the field. On it they are likely to be well in front of us before we even kick a ball.

What would I have liked to see.

Why cant SUFC also go on a tour of the USA? Do our owners have any sporting connections over there at all? Wouldnt this be a perfect marketing opportunity straight after the World Cup?

Why hasnt a memorial game for George Baldock been arranged against Panathinaikos. Better still a tournament for all the teams he represented Oxford MK Dons etc. with an annual cup.

There seems to be little imagination or desire to promote the Club and secure additional revenue opportunities.

Having just read the Fans Advisory Board statement on pre season it reflects the current parochial approach.
Kind of get the point, but also water is wet. Whilst you can rightly critique the lack of originality or commercial benefit from this pre season, the sole purpose of pre season should be getting us ready for the new season.

Not sure spending a fair amount of money to be playing to empty stadiums in California is much different to playing elsewhere.

Wrexham are a completely different beast to any other team in this league, which makes the comparison largely useless. There’s incentives for both teams to stage high profile friendlies. What commercial benefit would there be to any other team in playing us pre season?

Each to there own and all that, but pre season fixtures rank alongside new kits in terms of importance to the season

Booked flights for Bochum. Paid an obscene amount to do it as an overnight trip which I’m writing off as an idiot tax for not getting it sorted sooner.

Anyone staying in Bochum?
That's our plan but may stop in Belgium en route.

Aye, I’ve joined up.

Opted for Dusseldorf - flying into there and stopping near the station so can drop bags off hopefully before heading to the game.

Nail. On. Fucking. Head.

I think the simple but accurate answer to this is probably that we haven't been the focus of a successful Disney TV series and no-one would give a shit about us so we'd be wasting our time. If we're miles behind Wrexham off the pitch it's because they're owned by Hollywood stars who are using their production company as a marketing agency to maximise their profile. I think it's incredibly hard for other clubs to replicate that model from a standing start and without the celebrity status (and therefore outside interest).

I have doubts about the longevity of Wrexham's strategy. I know what they were asking for their front of shirt sponsorship a few months ago and what the price had dropped to recently. How does the model work if they're in the same division for the next few years and the American TV audience loses interest in the 'fairytale'?
Cooper agreed re longevity but if you are Wrexham fan and the Hollywood connection ended now you would still celebrate. They've gone from none league in a shit stadium to a championship side, known around the world with a big, new stand in the process of being built. Some of their new fanbase will stick with them enhancing their revenue going forward....and of course it might be their new owners are in it for the long run

Why would Stuttgart have wanted to sell a player they had signed perm less than a month before?

There are lots of Turkish barbers in Sheffield- the club could have provided a perm had he wanted, even thrown in dome eyebrow threading.

Here's one we did earlier.

Poland to Finland, then to the States for 3 games in 3 different states.

Good luck to the lads! Sounds lovely from a marketing POV but wouldn't be surprised if half their team ended up crocked before the season starts.
100% sounds like a disaster for the players.

Yet more evidence that our owners ... up beneath those who were once minnows.[/url

The Mercure and the station are all close to the Alstadt and its bierkellers - you've picked well (unless you hate good German beer).
Dont drink beer really but when i looked there were a few Irish bars in the Akstadt where i was hoping to drink Guiness
