I know it was probably nothing of note but was anything said about pre-season at the fab meeting? Or was it just the copy+paste “training camp in Portugal then Mansfield away”…

And what about the Baldock memorial game vs. Panathinaikos?

Any updates specifically if we have an overseas game pencilled in ? Come on Kas you must know Summat

I'd still have money on Southampton coaching staff and the Carrier Bag Firm, being there.
The Carrier Bag Firm technique is to always come at the problem sideways.

Who has to know about pre season friendlies well in advance, interacts with supporters, but doesn't actually work for the Club?

And, might be caught off guard a little if you approach them and ask them outright - "heard owt about pre season?"

Suggestions...?

Man like Phil.

You ask the Police. You wait for a late season game. Where there is a dedicated fan zone for away fans. Say "for example" Bristol City away in April. The liaison copper is bound to be in there. Trying the nicey nicey. He'll have already been in contact with liaison coppers working with potential opponents. He may even have been in contact with British Embassies.

United cannot agree or announce anything without "police permission". He knows earlier than virtually anyone else. And he doesn't really know he shouldn't say anything.

"Halifax Town definitely. Somewhere near Valencia. And Scotland - oooohhhh where was it again, Motherwell or somewhere like that"

Don't shoot him, he's just the messenger.

OK, so you're a cooper's nark. Instead of grassing up armed robbers, you blow smoke up his arse and tell him how big his truncheon is?

also Rotherham and chesterfield told we we are playing Valencia .was hoping for a harder per season
Our pre-season is mostly designed so Wilders minions can have a few decent local days out on the beers and he can join them because our managers mentality is 90s Sunday league and not modern professional football.

Ridiculous comment. The ideal pre-season starts with low level friendlies (the likes of Matlock, Baslow) and gradually works up the levels as the players reach the start of the season. You don’t tend to play pre-season games against teams in the same division.

There’s little point, unless there is a training camp, in going any further than you need to and spending hours on a coach when you can go up the road.
It’s better to be playing league one and two clubs, who play a similar style and intensity of football, than foreign or Scottish teams.

I would expect (and how I would plan it given free choice) to be something along the lines of Matlock, Alfreton, Halifax, Rotherham, Doncaster, Huddersfield. With maybe a foreign friendly in there somewhere if they go for warm weather training.

It’s all designed around being at peak match fitness when the first game of the season comes around.

Not worked last couple of season
Blowing out there arsenals after an hour

I was told we were hoping to arrange a game in Valencia that's open to the public, though nothing is confirmed.

That could be why there has been no announcement yet. Public games are harder to arrange than training games. You need stadium employees to turn up, co-operation with police etc. Nothing moves quickly in Spain.

That's what I'm hoping anyway. When we went last time there were no public events.

If we did play a public game they would have to make arrangements for hundreds of our fans on the piss. And I guess they'd have to play it at an actual stadium not a training ground.

Managed it twice in Portugal in recent years though, so I am still optimistic

And then when we play a championship team and we are completely under cooked. I get the dont travel far part but what about playing Leeds, Forest, one of the Manchester clubs so that when we face a championship team we are better prepared. Might be hard this summer with the world cup but we do the same every season

Because those clubs are run properly and are normally on their well organised, previously published international summer tours

Yup, Wilder plans them, books a bar in the local WMC, and even drives the coach.

I get that sone people want Wilder out, but turning every single thread into an anti-CW diatribe, is just a teensy weensy bit tedious.

Pre-season games are about minutes. I don't think we'll be particularly better prepared by playing against better teams because they aren't competitive games. Last time we got promoted from the Championship we played teams like Scunthorpe, Barnsley and Mansfield (and lost to all three, as I recall). Obviously Wilder and his minions wanted local days out on the piss that year too, which is weird as he didn't work for us at the time.

Personally I don’t see why we can’t be arranging pre-season friendlies abroad 6-12 months in advance. The take up would be higher even if the opposition wasn’t 100% nailed on but say there was announcement that said we would be playing 3 fixtures in Spain for argument sakes in Valencia at their reserve stadium which has a 3,000 capacity and we played Sunday, Tuesday and Friday. It could be easily arranged to have a package deal put in place with hotels and flights along with travel/tickets, make it the first week of the school holidays and a 5pm kick offs. If the club want to pay me I will sort out 2027!
