I am sure it has been asked a few times and there must be a reason but why do we not have pre season friendlies at home not to mention better opposition??? I have just looked at the pigs pre season friendlies and they are much more appealing and testing. They only have 1 at home but that is Rangers and they are bringing 5000 down why not have a game like that??? Couldn't care less about the pigs don't get me wrong but most clubs have at least 1 decent game.

New pitch??? ;)
Nothing to stop us playing decent opposition away though, I agree.

I don't think it really matters in terms of getting the team prepared which is the main aim at the end of the day. It's good for the fans to see a home game against someone different and combining the Open Day with a game looked like a good idea but then again you wouldn't want to be forking at £65 to see a makeshift Real Madrid or, as happened at Fleetwood last season, a game against a Man United team which contained only one recognisable player.

There is also an argument that suggests you wouldn't want to be outclassed or turned over in front of your home fans days before a new season starts.

I think next season will be different, you could be seeing Manure, Everton and Rangers. Unless you play clubs like this and celtic you are more likely to lose money playing friendlies at home.

I am not sure what you learn playing big clubs at home anyway playing half teams

The 'big' clubs are only interested in the corporate tours overseas these days. We could end up playing the likes of Hull or lower Prem teams but as you say, what's the point when it's not the 1st team anyway. There's always the risk of injuries but I always think it's better to play so called 'lower' teams who will at least be making an effort rather than a better team chopping and changing, just going through the motions.

Well to be fair with facing bigger clubs you'll play the reserves or youth on most occasions. I wouldn't mind the odd home game as I do miss football this time of year.
preseason tours I think might be used as a bonding experience for the players, while also picking up their fitness again.

Atromitos FC at home 26 July. Not sure what that means for team v York

Atrowholos?

I don't think the police would be right impressed if we played the porkchops in a friendly. Pointless exercise really. Big crowd, lots of policing, city centre grinds to a halt, all for a meaningless game. I seem to remember we did it once before, but called it summat else. Don't see any point doing it again though. For me it make sense to play crap teams away. The point is to look at players and give them all a few games, the harder the opposition the less chance they get to actually touch the ball.
