I think it was that shitty rainy 1-0 defeat at their place in 2007 (?) which made me hate that lot. Then I got smashed with a few Watford fans a year or so later in Corfu who were a great laugh. Grown a respect for how they've gone about things.

Good comments. Given their start they must really be raising the stakes for satdi.

The last fans that praised us were Sunderland, hope this aint a bad omen 😂

Honestly think Watford will kick into gear for this game though, gonna be a tough 'un!

Cheers Roy, lots of fair comments and a proper dose of pessimism. Always worries me opposition fans being convinced they will lose.

Never mind the Pigs, we used to be a sanctuary for ex Watford players about 10 years ago - Darius Henderson, John-Joe O'Toole, Matt Spring, Nyron Nosworthy, Jordan Stewart (shudder at the thought of the pair of them), Lee Williamson, Bromby, Webber

Observations from those commentd

1: It says Sheff Wed have been in the top flight for most of its history but fails to say that Sheff United have also been in the top flight for much of its history.
They’ve spent 66 seasons in the top flight compared to our 61 seasons.

2: There’s a common theory amongst most PL fans that we’re had this great start, working so hard and will inevitably run out of steam.
I think our start has been average and we should be on more points. It’s the defence that’s impressed, like they did in the 2nd half of last season.
But don’t think we’ve got our attacking game going yet (don’t even know our best 2 strikers) and not played as well as we normally do...in possession.
The “we are relying on momentum” and “we’ll run out of steam`’ comments have all been said many times in the last 2 years.
Evidence shows that we don’t run out of steam..if anything we grow stronger throughout the season.....expect this season to be the same.

3: Great comment about Sheff United lose 0-1 to Liverpool and the manager Wilder is angry about the result being critical of players.
Where as Watford lose 8-0 to Man City and their club just accepts it as expected and normal.

I’ve heard many of our fans say if we finish 4th from bottom it’s been a successful season, understand what they mean but
It’s refreshing to hear Wilder make comments that his target is to finish as high as possible in the 1st season, then improve in the 2nd season.
Really believe we have a realistic chance of finishing closer to mid table and don’t think we’ll be anywhere near the relegation battle.

ah . .the old 'pashun and momentum' gambit. we've heard that before surely..

Slowly fans and pundits are beginning to realise we’re a bit more than Sheffield United 2007 and have actually moved on.
I’m glad that the management and club are beginning to get the recognition they deserve and shoving the ignorant comments of some pundits down their throats.
The biggest satisfaction would be if we were to finish mid table.

Oh, and thanks for your efforts Roy.

Lets not kid ourselves they fancy turning us over tomorrow to kickstart there season
Not going to happen

Have Wednesday even spent most of their history in the top flight? I bet percentage-wise both clubs have been similar in that respect anyway.

Given the fact they were formed a good few years before us I’d guess that we’re probably ahead percentage wise.

Some funny stuff in there:
“Prediction
Watford 2-3 Sheffield United
Sharp (og 23, og 72); Sharp (85, 88, 90+6)”

“Ideally we’d shoot at Henderson as much as possible to test him. Unfortunately with our attackers we may have lots of shots but the only danger will be to the crowd”

“Dear Sheffield United,
Would you like your 3 points gift wrapped or just as they come?
Regards,
Watford Football Club”

They are feeling the pain down there on the border.

You’re confusing their longer history to league history.

Both clubs have the same number of years spent in the league dating from when the league was started. Before the league started both clubs just played amateur games against other local clubs but Wednesday had been around longer.

They don’t have a longer league history.

Both are on their 117th season in league football with both Sheffield clubs having a remarkably similar record
Sheff Wednesday (who were elected to be fast tracked starting in the expanded division 1)
Top flight 66 seasons (56%)
2nd tier 42 seasons (36%)
3rd tier 9 seasons (8%)

Sheff United (we were elected to start life in the newly formed 2nd tier)
Top flight 61 seasons (52%)
2nd tier 44 seasons (38%)
3rd tier 11 season (9%)
4tht tier 1 season (1%)

Last two comments made me laugh. I remember really hating Watford in the warnock era but I have no idea why. Maybe I got them confused with West Brom since I was only young.
Weren't we holding their hand (and Palace) when we last fell through the trapdoor out of the Premier?

I’m actually bizarrely more worried about this one than Liverpool. Last week few people expected anything whereas this week we are more likely to get something which in Blades world means we’re less likely to I think!

My head hurts now
Exactly my sentiment. Wasn't nervous about playing Liverpool at all. This one has got me worried. Would be a 100 times more disappointed to lose tomorrow than if we'd lost 3 plus to nil against Liverpool. And I hate Liverpool with a pashun all said and done.

My theory being is that other than the odd random result, City and Liverpool will beat all the teams we are competing with....

I was just thinking the same thing.

“If we win this we have a chance of staying up. If we lose we are as good as gone”
......... yes because if we beat you tomorrow there’s only another 90 points to play for :rolleyes:........
The ultimate in fickleness.

Cheers Roy! 👍

What a miserable, unbelieving lot. I am glad not to be one of them. I'd prefer to have my unwavering belief disappointed than to live like that.

That said, Blades to win it by two goals. UTMB
