How I am looking forward to Saturday, pigs celebrating their great escape followed by more of Hecky's incompetence.

Well I hope we beat the fuckers. Palace are another of these teams that's it's hard to know what is the point of them even existing.

I applaud Palace for managing to stay in the Premier League for so long. It's something we have never managed to achieve. That said, they are the club I looked at when we went up and thought if that's our best case scenario this is actually going to get boring very quick. In our two seasons we achieved a higher place than they have in their current 8 year spell but they've also never finished below 15th

Hence the reason to support the SL or some similar breakaway that levels the playing field once again. Obviously, all clubs aspire to reach the PL but once there, the only aim is to avoid relegation which results in really dull football. The likes of Palace, Burnley, Brighton, Newcastle, etc. all do well, but is it entertaining to watch? Even last year there were games which we won but were they really enjoyable bar the result? Say the Norwich and Bournemouth games had ended as draws, which wouldn't have been unfair, then I'm sure our perception would be so different. I'm trying to polish a turd but I'm hoping that if we don't collapse completely then next season will be more interesting and entertaining for us fans. The PL is quite boring tbh.

Furiously scrabbling around in the hope that there's something in Large Mendonca's diary for 15:00 Saturday

“To lose at Sheffield is unthinkable.
This quite awful side has amassed 17 pts,a negative GD of 42 and the table doesn’t lie"

Hence forth I shall refer to them as crystal.
I don't understand why anyone would support a club named after a temporary 19th century exhibition centre anyway.

May as well follow London Eye Rovers or Madame Tussauds Athletic. Get to fuck with your pointless team and your silly ultras.

I’d still prefer to be a mid table PL club than stuck in the championship for an eternity, like Forest, Pigs, Derby etc, whose excitement is as likely to be a relegation battle as it is a promotion campaign.

That said, being a bit of a yo-yo club can be more interesting but you have to take the pain of relegation to get the joy of being promoted again. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Hodgson leaves. If it’s the end of this season, my money’s on Dyche. He’s absolutely “Palace”.

Last season was brilliant as it was new and obviously we did stupidly well. I was under no illusions though that even a couple of repeats of last season would soon have become pretty dull. I do think the Premier League is the most boring of all the football pyramid. Clubs spend a fortune to finish 4th bottom.

This spell is the first time in the PL era that they were not immediately relegated. It's also the longest spell in the top flight in their entire history. Same goes for Brighton, funnily enough.

They have done terrifically well, and yet are perpetually miserable. I do wonder whether next season they will struggle if mardy sod Zaha goes, and the question of who manages them is up for question. Whisper it, but I think CW would be a decent fit for them.

I totally agree, the chat about how exciting the Championship is just brave-facing it, it's no comparison to the PL. The only concern really, as we've found to our cost, is that the cost of having a squad capable of competing in the PL is more than our owner can afford. When you consider that Palace - who we would generally consider a similar sized club if not smaller than us - have around 15 players who earn more than our top earner it puts things into perspective.

It's a miserable existence. 5 or 6 tankings a year, between 40 and 50 points, near Croydon.

I don’t think their owners have put that much in tbf (I could be wrong). The wage bill has reduced their ability to sign players as they’ve struggled to pay the wages and also find money for transfers. That’s why they’ve got an ageing squad, quite a few of whom are getting to the end of their contracts. They’ve been quite fortunate that they’ve been able to develop players from their academy and sell them on, like Clyne, Moses, Wan-Bissaka to help plug the gap. They’ve also tended to go for managers who are fairly “safe” like Allardyce, Pulis and not worried too much about trying to play like Man City.

It will catch up on them if the owners aren’t prepared to put some money in at some point, it does with most clubs whose owners don’t want to put money in periodically. They can keep it going by being well run for a few years but it’s rarely sustainable. You can see the same with Wolves, for example. Their owners invested to get them into the PL and stay there but unless they trade well this close season, they’ll just keep moving down the league. Most owners aren’t like Abramovic, who doesn’t seem to care about how much he spends, they’re investors who expect to get a return. So they invest and improve a club but then want to start seeing the money coming back into their pockets.

However much the TV income is, clubs will struggle to be sustainable on that alone.

For me I think a lot will depend on the Derby result. If they win then I'll probably put myself through another 90 mins of low intensity, training ground boredom from us and might even enjoy it for once in the knowledge that the pigs are down.
If that lot escape (which we know they will) then I don't know if I can summon the enthusiasm to watch us lose x - 0 to a pretty terrible team.
I watched the highlights ealrier of our 1-0 win against Palace last season - nice day, full of enthusiasm, noisy crowd, even Lundstram playing well.......the difference was unreal to what it is now.
Freeman and C. Robinson did well that day and the game looked wide open at times, simply becasue we moved the ball forward quicker and pushed players forward quicker. So many occasions where we had 4, 5, 6 players in the box. Brewster is struggling we know, but we just don't create the same positive situations any longer, we don't give ourselves a chance.
All discussed many times before, so sorry to regurgitate the obvious!

1-0 Palace after Zaha trips over his own shadow to win a penalty. End in sight!

Thanks Roy.

So we've had a 'revival' since our fate was sealed. That must be something I missed.

I predict the game at Pride Park will attract more interest on here.
Definitely. This match will be dull beyond everything you've ever seen. So will Derby v Wednesday.

I am looking forward to the usual match where we compete for 35 minutes but as usual fail to score
Then Palace will get a goal by us making a mistake and the second half we will huff and puff, then depends if Palace are bothered about getting a second at some point for a straight forward win

Oh...It’s Crystal Palace. Who knew? 🤷‍♂️
