Thanks mate quite amusing bunch although I oddly hate it when the opposition are expecting defeat so much

“It was 1-2 back in the eighties. Wednesday evening game at Bramhall Lane. Steve Biggins won it in the 88th minute right in front of the home end. Remember it so well. A repeat scoreline please.”

Tuesday night, actually. 6th March, 1984.

Yes, I looked it up in the hope he'd got something wrong, so I could come on here and pretend to be the bollox, whereas I'm just pathetic really 🙃

17,914 attendance in Div3. Not bad at all !

Cheers Roy!! UTB!

If that’s the game I think it was then our goal was from Colin Morris one of the best goals I’ve ever seen from a United Player a 30 yard top bins thunder bastard I was only about 10 years old so it might not be that one?

Grounded lot, wish them the best, except tomorrow and on the 5th April'25. 😉
Thank you Roy.

Went to manor ground in 90s open away end 3-0 down at half time
Centre back scored from a corner or 2
Matt Elliott

That was when Keith Edwards gave a simple straight forward pass straight to their man, passed it back from around the halfway line and they broke straight from it and it was in before our defence had time to react because of that bad pass

Yes! "Bramhall Lane ✅" is back! haven't seen one for a while.

That’s what I like about the Championship. Fans who are self-deprecating and can make themselves a butt of the joke.

So much more refreshing than the responses of “finished club”, after you’ve narrowly lost to a team that cost half a billion to assemble, by a ‘fan’ who you know has never set foot within 4,000 miles of your opponents’ home ground.

Didn’t we lose to them in the late 90’s? Pretty sure I watched from the BLUT for the only time I’ve been in it that game and they scored a freekick to win it. Might have mixed it up with another game

Quite surprised at the lack of Wilder comments, I got the impression he wasn't liked at Oxford after he left them.

Mentioned in post #3 above, good memory! For some reason the highlights are on youtube:

Give me Oxford, Millwall and Preston over Arsenal, Man City and Man U!

No mention of kidney punching the disabled. Very disappointing.

Surprised none of them remembered them nicking a last minute winner at the lane in ‘99. The man sat in front of me just had with his head in his hands for 5 mins shouting “Oxford?!?! bloody Oxford ?!?!”
My first time at the Lane was that. You can see how I got hooked.

Surprised to see commentators referring to us as "Sheffield" as far back as 1999, I was sure that was a recent thing

Still remember that as it was one of the first Friday night games we'd played in that wasn't away at Tranmere.

Went straight out down town afterwards and my Wednesday mates constantly took the piss that we'd lost to Oxford, ruined both my night and my weekend. I've always hated Friday night games since then, great if you win, football weekend ruined before it's begun of not.

On the plus side, the PA system still used to play The Professionals theme when we scored and we had the old animated dot matrix scoreboard that was like a giant pinball machine display

Glad to see that at least one of them watched the same game I did at Coventry. Most sky blue fans were diving in the concourse to try and win a free pie.

Aye, there was a little ball going into a net animation when we scored.

Had some half decent players that year to be fair. Still and Alan Kelly/Simon Tracey, David ‘Reg’ Holdsworth, Graham Stuart, Marcelo, Wayne Quinn, Paul Devlin plus Woodhouse and Lee Morris in their breakout seasons. Flogged Vas Borbokis to Derby that year as well. Tri Dellas on the books as well and he could barely get a game.

Steve Bruce kept insisting on playing himself til it was painfully obvious that he was way past it.
