Having worked in Chesterfield for a while now I can say they aren't a bad bunch, but Christ do they get smug when (and this has been rare) they get one over us.

In terms of hooligans though they did provide comedy gold last season. I decided to head to FC United of Manchester V Chesterfield in the FA cup, as I had bugger all else on. We went for a couple of drinks near to the ground when a group of young Chesterfield hooligans came strutting in. There they were: sharing a brain cell, clad in Stone Island, fake Burberry scarves wrapped round there faces (presumably so the police couldn't recognise them in the 'carnage' they were about to unleash'), when they were spotted by there Manchester equivalents. One shout of 'you's lot are Chesterfield aren't ya' was enough to have the band of merry inbreeds scuttling, then running for the door. These 'hooligans' refused to even look up before they ran for cover behind the police horses. The same group were soon giving it the big un in the away end, safe behind police and stewards.

Football hooligans are pathetic, but they were easily the most pathetic I've ever witnessed.

I sense some sarcasm here and with good reason it really shouldn't matter how up for it they are. I see from the Green Un app that 3 or 4 of the first team players haven been released, Evans is apparently going and the rest are shit so if we turn up and play as you'd expect us to it should be a case of how many. I just hope we live up to the hype and show once again this season that the days of freezing and faltering in front of big home crowds is something that Wilder won't tolerate.

Can I just say that I grew up in Chesterfield? It's a very nice town in which the women in the shops call you "sweetheart" and "darling", the cobbled market is a cracker and there's a great view of the Peak District from the town centre. Unfortunately, since they left Saltergate CFC have attracted the very dregs of the town's population, and the most moronic of the entire bunch are some of the contributors to Bob's Board.

It's a bit like Barnsley in reverse. I find Barnsley an absolute craphole but in my experience the Tykes supporters are perfectly fine.

Any road, when I were a lad no Tahn fan considered it likely that CFC would ever meet United or Wednesday on an equal footing so there was never talk of any "rivalry" at all. Chesterfield's real rivals, as befits both clubs' status, are Mansfield.
