This game has all the hallmarks of an absolute cracker.

The magic of the cup ;-)
One never knows, I remember cracking 3rd round games v B'mouth in 1990 and Ipswich 2003. Especially the latter. Both ended in good cup runs, and one promotion. Trying to be optimistic.

How far the FA. Cup has fallen. Only if the Cup gets a European place will interest increase

Thanks Roy

Thanks Roy.

It is really sad that the FA Cup is treated this way now, & even more sad that the FA also feels the same way, as evidenced by scheduling the game on a winter Thursday evening that is also live on TV. Well done to any fans, Cardiff especially, who make the effort to go.

Get through it with the youth bonus.
If we don’t who cares 🤷‍♂️
Priority Norwich.
This competiontion won’t mean much to us even if we get through the fourth round
Money talks

Thanks Roy
Has there ever been a game that was so unwelcome, so dreaded, so pointless for both sets of fans?
True.

As some have said, back in the day the 3rd round of the FA Cup was one of the most eagerly awaited matches in the calendar. Now, it’s just part of the fixture congestion.

The relative importance of this fixture should really demonstrate to the FA that the competition has no value left at all.

There's much to moan about with the FA Cup, such as scrapping replays and spreading the ties across a week giving us ridiculous kick-off times such as this evening at the Lane. But there's still plenty of magic in the cup for me.

Everton vs Peterborough tonight, for example. Looking highly likely that Ashley Young will be playing in a match against his son. That's a great story and I've personally never seen a dad v lad scenario in a competitive professional fixture.

With regards to us, we've had plenty of great cup ties over my time. Plenty of naff ones too. I think sometimes you're in it and sometimes you're not, and frankly in the context of our season and our injury list we should be grateful we don't have the added pressure of trying to compete with a Premier League side or avoiding embarrassment against a minnow.

Bin the league cup and just have the FA Cup. Having just the one to focus on would make it more appealing too.

Could extend the Johnstone Paint Trophy to Championship clubs and have it as a proper League Cup (getting rid of the Premier League academy sides).

Having 2/3 domestic cups, plus the league does nothing to help people’s appetite.

I loved the FA Cup and still do… there’s just something different about a cup tie …

However the grandest cup competition has been devalued over the years.

I remember it being shown on TV all day before kick off - a real event … seeing the players arrive by coach in their new suits.. watching every single tie highlights again.. a proper day of celebration

FA Cup replays YES please , part of the drama and aura of the cup … Big old Liverpool only scraping a draw at rushden and diamonds only to have to play them at home (poor old Liverpool how will they cope)

Away goals count double - not sure if they still do.

Penalty shoot out wins in replays for lower teams such as a Peterborough.

As others have said put all the traditions back in place … and add a champ league spot to it … but they won’t because that won’t suit the top 7 prem teams with their expensively assembled squads ..

Decent idea this. Or just exclude the PL from the League Cup and rebrand it the EFL Cup. Instantly becomes a more appealing proposition to every other club, you could even attach a Europa Conference place to it as let's face it they'll let any old riffraff play in that.

I doubt the managers turn up for this game let alone the fans

Looks like they have the same enthusiasm & sentiments around the game , it’s really sad now how the FA Cup has diminished to a shadow of its former self . Outside winning the league it was the second biggest honour in England and 3rd round ties always trsdionally had large attendances right up to the formatation of the Premier League & the start of greed.
I take my hat off to any Bluebirds fans making that trip up tonight to watch 2 reserves sides play , midweek , at a stupid KO time in freezing conditions just after Christmas . I can’t be arsed & I live locally

What a great story, really epitomises the cup. I have a vague memory of watching a 15 yr old Jermaine Pennant debuting against us at the turn of the century, and it was making headlines. Whilst tonight might be a right off, whoever wins could have a great tie in the 4th round, or an easy tie. Before you know it, time for the 5th round, another easy tie, and then it's the quarter-finals. Wednesday at home for us or Swansea at home for Cardiff. Suddenly it's all worth it. Most of our memorable cup runs over the years started off with an underwhelming match. That's the way the Cup works.

3 Semi`s in the last 25 years or so , 2 at 2nd tier , 1 at 3rd tier , not a bad haul for a club our size, carn`t think of another team that can match that . A large amount of the blame should go to Man U they started its demise , when they did not enter about 2000

I'd be tempted to get over Snake Pass in normal winter weather to see this.
Can't somebody arrange for the undersoil heating to develop a fault before the Cardiff fans set off?

Nah , can't afford to turn down the money BBC Wales will be throwing at this one !!

Johnstone Paint Trophy? Are you having a 😃 😀. What next bring the County Cup back. Plus the Anglo Scottish Trophy.
Heady days!!!

Can't see there being 6k at lane tonight, first home cup game I've missed in about 50 years. I'm predicting 2-1 to blades
